Soldier Birthdays…
A couple of soldiers needing cards! As always, just cards right now…if you wanna include your address, feel free. They often write back and then you can always see about sending care packages later on. Just a heads up for those who aren't familiar with my soldier posts…I get these names from a lady who works directly with an SOS unit in Ohio and the info is about as up to date as we can expect it to be-she doesn't get the info from the web or second hand.

Playing Catch Up
I'm trying to catch up.
We got back in town late Saturday but ugh… you know how vacation goes.
I need a day or two to readjust… in the meantime…here's a view I had. Believe it or not, I took the pic with my new toy…a Samsung Galaxy Tablet.
Mingo Falls-Cherokee, NC
Granted, it took 160 steps to get to that view. I showed the picture to Tammy and Mary, two of the readers who came to the signing Friday in Asheville. As Tammy said…it would have been a lovely place to die.

#Reading
Nicole was up from Lexington over the weekend. We talked some business stuff over lunch, had some sushi and then went shopping. I introduced her to Lush… *G* and she shoved this book into my hands.
It was good. I liked it. You might like it, too.
Charley sees dead people. That's right, she sees dead people. And it's her job to convince them to "go into the light." But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she's been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life…and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.
This is a thrilling debut novel from an exciting newcomer to the world of paranormal romantic suspense.

Time is running out for your best chance to get an ARC of Hunter's Fall. This is a chance to help save a man's life and get the ARC-hey, it doesn't take much…Details here!
Remember that I mentioned I'd be auctioning off BROKEN & FRAGILE signed and the proceeds would go to Japan earthquake relief? Well, the auction ended. I'd hoped for maybe $50. Thought that was doable. It ended up going $227.50. Blew my mind… A few people asked if I had plans for another auction, and yes-I've been working on something, but the problem is these are time-consuming and I'm rather…well…out of town. I didn't want to do anything while I was gone. I'll work on it more when I'm back in town.
Speaking of auctions…
One auction that will be going up sometime…a Kobo reader with five ebooks from me.
What's Operation Auction? It's for Fatin…from the website:
Fatin has been an integral part of the romance community for years – she owns and runs the RR@H Novel Thoughts and Book Talk blog, is an administrator of the WriteMinded loop, an author assistant and a tireless advocate for romance novels. She is also a friend to many in this community.
On Tuesday, March 8th, she lost her husband in a senseless act of violence, leaving her alone with four children. You can read more about the tragedy here: http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/9233067/
The romance community would like to rally around her. Therefore, we will be holding auctions on ebay the last week of March. More information on exact days and donations will follow.
Fatin, personally, for me has been a wonderful friend. I've 'known' her (online) back when I was just writing for my epubs-she's been one of my earliest supporters. As a mom, I can't imagine the grief and the fear and the pain she's going through right now. The romance community has always shown itself to be amazing when it comes to supporting those within it-this is one of the many things I've seen. My heart and prayers go out to her and her family

If You Had a Chance to Save a Life
This is an update post…you cannot comment here, it's just a reminder. If you haven't commented or aren't familiar with it… Time is running out to enter for the ARCS, and the odds of winning are good.
In your lifetime, there are few moments when you're given the opportunity to directly save another person's life.-Bryan Mealer, HuffPo
If you had a chance to save somebody's life, and it didn't take all that much… would you do it? Well, here's that chance…
A few days ago, I blogged Marrion P'Udongo, a minister in the Congo who has dedicated his life to his people. Not just ministering to them in the way people might think…but risking his life on a regular basis.
Paraphrased…he says…(paraphrased because I suck at trying to get exact words down)
"My job as a minister isn't just about trying to lead people to heaven, but caring for all of them while here on earth."
In 2003, he hid 70 people in his house as the militia tore the town apart. He could have been killed for what he did…but he did it anyway.
He has reached out to the child soldiers in the Congo, trying to give them the chance to be children…not child soldiers, but children.
He's a voice for the numerous women and girls who are raped in the eastern Congo. He works with orphanages that care for the children who've lost their parents in the war.
He's a husband. He's a father. He's a hero.
He's also dying. He was recently diagnosed with acute renal failure and he needs a transplant. You can imagine they probably don't have the sort of resources in the Congo that might be found in other countries.
While the loss of any life is tragic, this man is a hero who has touched countless lives in that bit of the world-and you rarely hear much about the devastation there, the horrors, the tragedies. Wars have raged there for years. Yet all we hear is a blip every now and then.
Children living as soldiers. Families slaughtered. Women and girls are endlessly raped, their abusers never brought to justice. This man is one of the few that will speak for them. And if he dies…will there be another to take his place?
Some of the pastor's friends are trying to raise money via indiegogo to pay for the transplant and time is running out. I made a donation but I want to do more. Romanceland has rallied behind communities devastated by hurricanes and it's rallied behind the black-footed ferret…maybe we can do something to help this amazing man. This is a small something, but everything starts small, right?
So… for every comment left here in this thread, (DO NOT COMMENT HERE… PLEASE GO TO THIS THREAD) up to four hundred, I'm donating an additional dollar on top of my previous donation. If 400 comments are left (at my blog-not FB, Goodreads, etc) I'll donate $400. Now… to help maybe inspire others to give…if you donate via this page (they accept paypal, too, so international readers can enter!) with a minimum donation of $5.00 via paypal, then your name is entered to win:
an ARC of Hunter's Fall, personalized to the winner, drawn randomly
Any donation of $5.00 or more to the fund will be entered. You can simply forward the confirmation from Indiegogo to contest4shiloh@gmail.com and that will be your entry. I received mine and there is no personal data included, no name, address, nada. UTA: Please note, your odds of winning that ARC? Really, really good…
Now… anybody who's hung out at my blog has probably noticed I kind of believe in the power of giving-there's a sort of magic to it. Karma, reap what you sow…good things come back on those who give. Not right away, but it happens. Sometimes in hidden blessings, sometimes in more obvious ways, but there is power in it.
Whoever makes the largest donation to help this amazing man is going to receive huge, sloppy kisses from me…um, scratch that… how about books. An ARC stack.
*this is all all or nothing-one winner gets them all*
An ARC of Hunter's Fall
ARCs of all three books from my upcoming romantic suspense trilogy
An ARC of my upcoming Grimm book, Locked in Silence
ARCs will not be immediately available…will be mailed later, but the recipient will get them before release date, I promise.
And…if you're a blogger and you want to help out even more…click here.
Info gathered via indiegogo, HuffPo and various googles…

Hunt Me…
This is an independent project, one of the Wicked Reads.
It's had a cover.
Now it has a blurb…
She's been keeping secrets…
Drew Quentin has been crazy about sexy Dakota Coulter from the moment he met her, but after two years of dating, he still doesn't have her phone number. Sooner or later, a man has to move on.
That was the plan. But the night he broke things off, things went from bad to worse…and he figured out some of her secrets…bloodthirsty secrets.
Dakota Coulter is having a lousy night. The man she loves just broke up with her. And she can't even take an hour to sulk, because duty calls—and as a Hunter, she must answer.
Being a vampire is hell on the love life, that's for sure. But it will get better, right? Just do the job, get out of town and oh…avoid the ex-lover who is suddenly out to track her down. Too bad a happy reunion is soooo not on his mind.
This is a shorter story, due out in May in ebook-probably at Nook, Kindle & All Romance Ebooks. It may end up in print, but I don't know the specifics. Details on that will be posted when/if I have them available

Saturday Snippets…Hunt Me
From an indie…a Hunter's story, a very short one. Nooooo, this doesn't mean I'm going back to doing Hunters in ebook. Sorry, this was a special group thing and it just worked out that way. Due out in May…
"Hello, gorgeous."
The low, rich purr of her voice was enough to have Drew Quentin shifting in the miserable, busted chair. He also had to fight the urge to smile as he reminded himself he'd decided to ends things with one Dakota Coulter, the sexy, mysterious brunette.
He wanted her, he was halfway in love with her…and she refused to so much as give him her damn phone number.
He could have handled that.
But the cop in him was a little bit disturbed by the fact that Dakota Coulter had a past that was just a little too mysterious. Oh, her background check held up—too well, actually. Something about her just had his instincts quivering.
She wouldn't open up for him.
"Drew?"
He closed his eyes. "I'm here, Dakota."
"Having a rough night, sugar?"
The compassion in her voice all but gutted him. Damn it. This would be so much easier if she didn't care—so much easier if he wasn't in love with her.

No Friday 56… Just a Friday Reads…
Because this isn't the book closest to me. Why am I doing this and not a 56? Eh, I wanna keep doing the random giveaways of books I've enjoyed. This is fun. But I also like doing the page 56, like 5… so we'll keep that format up.
"We trace our family back over three hundred years," she said. "Roots are so important, don't you think?"
From Stacia Kane's Unholy Ghosts…
THE AFTERLIFE IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.
The world is not the way it was. The dead have risen and constantly attack the living. The powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased. Consequently, there are many false claims of hauntings from those hoping to profit. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully-tattooed witch and freewheeling Debunker and ghost hunter. She's got a real talent for nailing the human liars or banishing the wicked dead. But she's keeping a dark secret from the Church: a little drug problem that's landed her in hot and dangerous water.
Chess owes a murderous drug lord named Bump a lot of money. And Bump wants immediate payback. All Chess has to do is dispatch a very nasty species of undead from an old airport. But the job involves black magic, human sacrifice, a nefarious demonic creature, and crossing swords with enough wicked energy to wipe out a city of souls. Toss in lust with a rival gang leader and a dangerous attraction to Bump's ruthless enforcer, and Chess begins to wonder if the rush is really worth it. Hell, yeah.

Winner of last Friday's Friday 56…JenB who commented:
Oh, this series is on my wish list.
"that they fit him like a second skin. Thin patches were rubbed on the insides of hi legs, as if he'd ridden on horseback a lot."
from River Marked by Patricia Briggs
Jen, you have two weeks to get in touch-however, I'm going to be out of town here shortly so you have to email Nicole this time-not me- please do not email me, it's gonna get lost. If Nicole doesn't hear from the winner within two weeks, the prize is forfeited and will be held for a future prize-yes, this does include if the email ends up lost in my inbox this time around, because I'll be out of town myself for a while, plus there is still massive chaos with me and that other hat thing. My inbox will explodeth-she's helping with that. Nicole's email is grimmhunter.shilohwalker(at)gmail.com
