Vaya con Dios, My Darling

I never even knew I had LJ messages, let alone read them, but this app shows how many you have, so I took a look. First thing I found was some pompous pinhead telling me s/he "wasn't going to give me a lecture about guns" (gee, big of you) but was unfriending me because I "write too much" and the format of my journal makes it less interesting somehow. And since I never knew you existed, I'm supposed to care about this ... why, exactly? Going back to not reading them now, thanks so much.

Testing iPhone app for LJ

Testes, testes, 1 ... 2 ... 3???!!!

So this thing lets me use italics and links and pictures

But it doesn't make this fiddly little keyboard any bigger. Not that I really thought it would. Still, will be handy for trips and such.

Good Morning

I gave blood for the first time yesterday. I'd tried before, but either I didn't weigh enough, had gotten a tattoo too recently, or was borderline anemic. Yesterday morning at a blood drive for an OLGC parishioner who has leukemia, I managed to beat the trifecta and get the needle. Strange experience. I didn't mind the needle-stick or the actual bleeding part; Chris won't look when he donates, but to me it was kind of cool watching my blood flow into the bag and knowing maybe it was going to hel

& ...

And Harry T? You'd love Twitter. Go to Twitter.com and sign up now. You know I'm always right about these things. I'll try to tweet more about the cats if you do.

I sound like a cult member, don't I? Maybe I am. Where else could I have Randall Flagg recommend my books, give Pennywise the Clown a hardon, and form a posse all within 24 hours?

Waving From Afar

Hello, faithful Livejournal. Again, I'm sorry I've been ignoring you, but I am still too injured to sit at my computer, and typing a whole entry on an iPhone hasn't gotten any easier. I'm scared that this latissimus dorsi thing is going to end up being one of those bad strains that pops up now and again for years, like the ankle I twisted while birding in Australia, but much worse because it will affect my gardening ability. Yet I've not been to a doctor because WTF can they do for a muscle stra

Excuses, Excuses

Apologies for neglecting this journal since I became a Twit. I understand this is a common side effect of being newly Twitterpated, but I also sustained some sort of hideous back strain while turning compost, and when you're flat on your back on a heating pad, it's one helluva lot easier to type 140 characters on your phone than it is to make a proper journal entry.

Chicago Trip

First of all, a thousand apologies to foodie readers, but I didn't take a single picture of the amazing-looking and -tasting food at Alinea. I enjoy seeing other people's food pix, but I just can't do that in fine-dining situations ever since I once saw Chef Pete scowling at a diner who was happily clicking away, and anyway you can see better pictures on their website.

I did, however, manage to take a few goofy camera-phone pictures of me and Neil:

This one is blurry, but I like the contented, sli

General Home Thoughts

And when I got back, the city and my street and my house and everything were right here where I'd left them. This sounds like an obvious statement, laughable even, until the alternative has happened to you. I am glad to know I can travel. This trip was very much a baby step but still scary, and I'm not planning to go jetting off on a regular basis, but at least I know it's possible.

Ah, but I do love Chicago. Apart from the food, which I believe to be as good as anywhere in the country, I never s
