More Awesome Art Crit From My Mom
On "Pocket Hurricane Relief": "That one up there that looks like a bunch of smears, that's kind of stupid."
On "Buried Alive": "And that one, that's not good. It looks like a three-year-old did it."
On a new one I haven't posted yet: "Not very attractive. I certainly wouldn't want it in my house."

Prints of Nothing
When I realized we now have the resources to easily make really nice-looking prints of some paintings, I decided to run a holiday special offering my portrait of Nothing from Lost Souls as a signed, numbered print, the first one I've ever done. This edition is limited to 50 prints, $20 apiece, each hand-numbered and signed by me.
Produced in conjunction with Grey Cross Studios.

Buried Alive

"Buried Alive," acrylic paint and ink on canvas, 11" x 14", $100 (or make an offer).
This is a very personal work, though it would be hard for me to explain why. Actually, it's hard for me to express things in words at all lately. I feel terrible that I haven't said anything about Hurricane Sandy, but the few words I could find seemed so banal, and so riddled with my own selfish PTSD-laced trauma, that they weren't worth posting. I hope people know I understand and care. "Miami 2017" was running through my head for days before Billy Joel played it on the NBC telethon. It was the only possible song he could do, really.

For Discussion
This may be the single stupidest thing I've ever seen anyone say about transsexuality/transgenderism. Not surprisingly, I guess, it's from a "men's rights" forum, one of the many Internet phenomena I find intermittently, horrifyingly fascinating.
I do not subscribe to "gender theory." In fact, I find the idea that all sexual traits, e.g. masculine and feminine, are social constructs to be myopic and more political than scientific.
In other words, to me, if you have a "Y" you're a guy. You are free to call yourself a woman, but I am not compelled to address you as "she," or even a "transgendered female." But rather than pushing that in peoples faces I simply avoid the pronoun in most cases.
Should a man want to go through SRS in order to live a life as much as possible as a woman, I support his right to do that without facing discrimination or hatred from anyone, but I will always think of HIM as my BROTHER in the fight for his right to do so.
-- Some dude
Never mind the multiple studies showing that trans people's brain scans overwhelmingly "match" the gender they identify as, because science is hard. And of course, FTM people don't even exist for this dude.
ETA: Lest this be too rage-making, here's a funny cat.
