How to Communicate Your Needs When You Don’t Feel Well
Health challenges can make it hard to feel like ourselves. You may be dealing with physical pain while also battling frayed emotions, a weary spirit, helplessness, impatience, and more.
It’s especially hard when your condition impacts someone else. Whether you need focused care or you’re watching someone you love cope with your situation, it can be tricky to communicate what you need without pushing the person away.
The list I’m sharing today isn’t all-encompassing, by any means. You best kno...

Two Encouragements for When You Brave Sickness
I’m so honored to host my friend and fellow author Ashleigh Slater today. Her book, Braving Sorrow Together, released last week, and I love her unique lens on heartache and pain and how we can support each other through it.
The Bible application she’s sharing today is actually the first Scripture you’ll find in my book, Prayers for Hope and Healing. Pretty sure that’s not an accident…I love how God works!
Whatever challenge you’re facing, I pray Ashleigh’s words bless you.
Are you familiar w...

16 Gift Ideas for Someone in the Hospital
Prayers for Hope and Healing is officially spreading its wings to fly this week!
As I’ve talked with people about the experiences that shaped this book, I’m reminded that my life journey has been vastly unique. Many hours have been spent in the hospital, from the time I was four years old watching my sister battle cancer, to the year-and-a-half spent dealing with my own health issues, to the months watching my sister wait for a heart transplant, to the recent medical crisis of my son.
The hos...

12 Uplifting Songs for Someone Going Through a Health Struggle
With only one week before the release of Prayers for Hope and Healing, I’ve been thinking a lot about the people who might read my book.

Today I’m sharing a list of songs for those who need a boost of encouragement. Having been through chronic health struggles myself, I know how lonely and pa...

8 Hope-Filled Bible Verses for Hard Days
In just three short weeks, my book, Prayers for Hope and Healing, will go out into the world.
It seems like everyone I talk to about the book’s topic knows someone who’s going through hard times. My book speaks directly to those facing health struggles, but the reality is we ALL have hard days — whether they’re due to a physical condition or something else.
This is especially true in recent times, with wildfires, hurricanes, flooding, and other tragedies filling our news feeds.
When I planned...

“Ranchy” Chicken Salad
Happy Labor Day, my friends!
This is the time of year when I like to make cooking as simple as possible for myself. Unless I’m grilling out, I don’t want a lot of prep time OR a lot of oven heat cranking in my kitchen.
Today’s recipe is the perfect solution. There are a ton of chicken salad recipes that use mayonnaise or Greek yogurt. I love those versions, but sometimes I need flavor variety. Enter…ranch dressing!
(Is there any problem that ranch dressing can’t solve?! I digress…)
I remember...

5-Minute Cardio Boost Workout [Video]
How often do you reach the end of the day, only to realize that you sat for most of it?
You’re not alone! Surveys have found that the average American sits for 13 hours a day. Add 8 hours of sleeping, and that’s almost the whole day spent in sedentary activity.
Aerobic exercise is crucial to keep your body and heart strong. But finding long stretches of time to devote at the gym isn’t always possible.
Thus, today’s workout!

3 Lessons for Avoiding Failure
I learned a hard lesson this past week. It started on Tuesday night, when I noticed the formatting of my website was wrong. In my concern to resolve the issue as soon as possible, I took matters into my own hands and tried to fix it.
Twenty-four hours later, I was completely rebuilding my site from the ground up. (If you’re viewing this on a mobile device, you may notice that the site header is still not quite right. Let’s just say it’s a work-in-progress.)
It was an exhausting, stressful wee...
