Free Short Story--"Sacrament"
I thought I'd share a short story about one of the members of Dante's household (The Maker's Song series), Silver, and how he became nightkind.
Drop by Pocket After Dark to read about how a desperate decision and a seemingly chance encounter leads to an unexpected choice: death or redemption.

Black Dust Mambo Featured Title on BN.com Book Club
I thrilled that Black Dust Mambo is a July featured read on BN.com's Paranormal & Urban Fantasy Book Club.
And you can learn even more about the book on BN.com's Paul Goat Allen's blog.
"Even after almost 20 years as a genre fiction book reviewer, I’m still surprised—shocked—by how many mediocre writers hit it big while other singularly brilliant novelists wallow in obscurity. For example, in urban fantasy the most underrated writer is unarguably Adrian Phoenix, author of one of the coolest, thematically deepest, and most wildly entertaining series ever written in the genre: The Maker’s Song (A Rush of Wings, In the Blood, Beneath the Skin, and the forthcoming Etched in Bone), which features vampire goth rock star Dante Baptiste and former FBI special agent Heather Wallace."
Read the rest (including his review of Black Dust Mambo) here.

Black Dust Mambo Giveaway on Patricia's Vampire Notes
On Patricia's Vampire Notes we're giving away a signed copy of Black Dust Mambo along with a bottle of hoodoo attraction oil and a mojo bag.
Learn more about hoodoo, nomads, and the characters of Black Dust Mambo in the interview. I've also included a couple of favorite New Orleans recipes! Here's a peek at the interview:
PVN: How does Hoodoo differ from Voodoo?
AP: The main difference is that Voodoo is a religion, with priestesses (mambos), priests (houngans) and devoted practitioners who participate in ceremonies to summon the loa (natural spirits and those of the dead), while Hoodoo is a system of folk magic following the same belief system as Voodoo, including the same gods/loas/saints.
With hoodoo, there are no priests or priestesses or ceremonies, just root doctors and root workers (also known as conjurers) working out of their homes and/or botanicas. Root doctors/root workers are consulted by members of their neighborhoods and communities for spells/cures/potions when ill (or feeling a tad cursed or full of bad luck) as often as a person would visit the local pharmacy. Laying tricks and foot magic, breaking/making hexes, creating natural medicines and cures for illnesses of all kinds--heart, body, and soul.
Poppets (voodoo dolls) are made for positive purposes as well as negative. To keep love and passion alive, to disperse negative energy and draw in positive. Candle magic. Divination with cards and shells and bones.

Von & Lucien Interview on Paranormal Haven
Add one nomad nightkind and one Fallen Nightbringer, mix thoroughly and . . . Here's a taste:
Paranormal Haven: Is it aggravating when Dante disregards what you tell him?
Lucien: *with a straight face* Absolutely not. I am infinite patience incarnate. A paragon of understanding.
Von: *chokes on his swallow of beer*
Lucien: *pounding on his back* I’ve heard that it’s best not to inhale liquids.
Von: *coughing* I’ll do my best to remember that in the future.
Lucien: Now, where was I?
Von: ‘I am infinite patience incarnate. A paragon of understanding.’ But you forgot Lord and Master of utter bullshit.

Guest Blog on Paranormal Haven
I thought I do something a little different for this blog. No vampires (sigh), no fallen angels, or hoodoo rootworkers. Just a little chat about . . . humor!
I love humorous stories. Adore dry wit and droll manners. Admire quick quips and snappy comebacks. How many times have I come up with the perfect, the most hysterical comeback . . .only mere hours after it was needed? And delivered it with smoking, devastating style to chirping crickets?

Dante & Heather Interview on Paranormal Haven
Athenna and Stephanie at Paranormal Haven managed to wrangle an interview with Dante and Heather! Here’s a taste:
Welcome to our interview. Dante does not normally do interviews so we are very lucky to have him here answering our questions. As an added bonus we are lucky enough to have Heather here to answer a few also. Ok, well lets let the fun begin.
Paranormal Haven: Lets start with you Dante. Lets talk about your music. How did you hook up with the other members of Inferno?
Dante: The usual way, with a good opening line and just the right amount of tongue during the kisses. Wait. You meant musically, yeah? *wicked grin* Y’all can disregard the other shit. Ain’t saying the kisses didn’t happen, but . . . I met Jack in a strip club on Bourbon Street when he was playing drums for a swamp rock band called Big Bull Gator. I really dug his drumming style, so I bought him a few drinks after the show and we talked. Turned out we had a lot of common interests, especially in music. READ THE REST . . .
