Banana Chocolate Chip Muffin Recipe

The other day I was looking at about five overripe bananas and knew my family wasn’t going to eat them. Somedays that means they’ll end up the freezer where they die, or in the trash. This time, though, I experimented with my six-year-old and made these spectacular muffins. So here’s the recipe before I forget. Have leftover bananas in your kitchen? ... Read More

Fiction Friday: An Uncommon Courtship & Murder on the Moor

Today I'm delighted to bring you two historical novels by two of my go-to authors. Kristi Ann Hunter writes great Regency novels, and Julianna Deering's Drew Farthering mysteries are like stepping into a black & white film noire. I heartily enjoyed both of their latest books. Also, it's been awhile since I hosted a giveaway here, so be sure to read to the end to enter.

10 Ways Your Word Guides Your Year

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about how to find Your Word for 2017. A logical question several of you had was, "Now that I have my word, now what?"

That's a great question, so today I wanted to share ten ways that a Word can help direct your year. You may find that some or none of these apply to you. If you've used the word in other ways, I would love to learn about those, so be sure to leave a comment.

A word can give you a prayer focus. If God has given you a word, a next step is to begin to ask God why. What does He want you to learn as you focus on the word?

Hidden Figures & Writing

Last night I had the chance to see Hidden Figures. If you haven’t gone, go. Now. Drop what you are doing and run to the theater. It was so well done. But here’s the warning: It will make you feel. There will be tears, outrage, cheering, etc. Here’s more about it from the Smithsonian. But here’s what I’m thinking about today. ... Read More

What’s Your Dream for 2017?

As I start 2017, I've been prayerfully considering what the dream for this year is. I'm all about having a word, but I'm also about having a dream. Two years ago it was selling my legal suspense series. Check. Last year it was about teaching in Italy over the summer. Check. Teach full-time at Purdue. Check.

These are those crazy, audacious dreams that God has graciously granted. But now I'm wondering...what's next.

Fiction Friday: Conspiracy of Silence

Oh my gosh, guys! I loved this military thriller with hints of romance. Ronie Kendig has made her place in fiction with novels that have high octane military action, and Conspiracy of Silence is a FANTASTIC addition. This novel has political overtones, Biblical archaeology threads, and the military, globe-jumping pacing. There is a fantastic, reluctant team that comes together to ... Read More

Fiction Friday: Three Book Smorgasborg

Today, I want to introduce you to three books I have enjoyed...and they are all unique. Gotta love that. A bit of something for everyone. There the sweet contemporary romance Where Two Hearts Meet, which is a vacation to Prince Edward's Island. Then there's Julie Klassen's latest Regency novel The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill, which is much more than a romance. It's a richly layered story with a host of characters telling their stories. And last there is the Domino Effect, something of a financial thriller, with a love interest. All unique but good.

5 Ways to Write More than One Book at a Time

I have often written multiple books at the same time. It's a part of life when one of your hats is professional writer. But it can also be a real part of the writing journey when you're getting started writing. The challenge is learning how to juggle the multiple characters, plots, and timelines. Here are a few tips I've developed over the years to let me do exactly that:

Fiction Friday: Of Stillness and Storm and Portrait of Emily Price

This week I want to introduce you to Of Stillness and Storm and A Portrait of Emily Price. Each book is like taking a vacation without leaving home. One takes you to the wilds of Nepal, while the other takes you to Tuscany. Both also take you into the questions we ask ourselves, whether we admit it or not. What do we do ... Read More

Fiction Friday

This week I want to introduce you to Of Stillness and Storm  “I felt torn between two worlds. Each with its own mystery. One more captivating than the other, but the other more real and breathing.” Of Stillness and Storm tells the story of Lauren and her husband and their process to achieve their dream—reaching primitive tribes in remote regions of Nepal. ...
