Monosodium glutamate: (MSG) guile enhancer

Monosodium glutamate: (MSG) guile enhancer

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is the sodium of salt glutamic acid. Glutamate is a naturally occurring amino acid found in almost all foods. The human body produces glutamate and it plays an essential role in normal body functions.

Though the FDA recognizes Monosodium glutamate, (MSG) as safe to use, a study conducted by the University of North Carolina in 2008 discovered that this enhancer is being link to obesity. This association with obesity is through its ability to eliminate appetite suppression; essentially it does not allow the brain to recognize that you are full.

Monosodium glutamate is an excitotoxin because of its ability to overstimulate cells to death this can cause brain damage to some degree and potentially trigger or worsen learning disabilities, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson, Lou Gehrig’s and more according to neurosurgeon Dr. Russell Blaylock  in his book Excitotoxin: The taste that kills.

As stated by the FDA, the body uses glutamate, an amino acid as a nerve impulse transmitter in the brain and there are glutamate responsive tissues in other parts of the body.

Abnormal function of glutamate receptors has been linked with certain neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s chorea.

Although the FDA sighted these things themselves, they still claim that monosodium glutamate (MSG) does not cause these ill effects, but other experts disagree. According to Dr. Blaylock, many glutamate receptors have been found both within the hearts electrical conduction system and within the heart muscle itself.

Monosodium Glutamate

Photo derived from http://reflektormagz.blogspot.com/

When an excess of food-borne excitotoxins such as monosodium glutamate (MSG), hydrolyzed protein, soy protein isolate and concentrate and others are consumed these receptors becomes overstimulated causing cardiac arrhythmias. When magnesium stores are low as seen in some athletes, the glutamate receptors are so sensitive that low levels of these excitotoxins can result in the said cardiac arrhythmias and death.

The FDA also admitted that “short- term reactions” called MSG symptom complex could occur in some people, those that are sensitive to monosodium glutamate (MSG) ( those who consume large dosage of MSG) or those who have asthma.

According to retired neurosurgeon Dr. Russell Blaylock and author, he asserts that excess consumption of glutamate promotes cancer growth, he also emphasized that there is need for more well researched studies to be conducted.

For your own health benefits, you must take a closer look at this compound and the long-term damages it can cause. If like the experts are saying that there is natural glutamate in most of the foods we use then why do we need the excess enhancer, why be deceived into believing that it is this compound which is needed to make us like our foods more. This is a conspiracy theory because there is no need for any extra additive to make your food taste good, the natural flavours in the foods used would bring out the taste of your pot.

Stop allowing yourselves to be led into thinking you need this enhancer, do not be gullible remember the foods already have their natural glutamate do not add more that would be excessive and this manufactured flavour enhancer has more than what is in the foods naturally so be aware and stay healthy.

Dos and Don’ts of a Great Workout

Dos and Don’ts of a Great Workout

Some will say that every workout is a great workout and they will be correct to a point. Every workout is ten times better than not doing it. However, for a truly great workout, you need to do more than just get down for a few exercises. A truly great workout is a scientific undertaking, as well as one of muscles and mind. So, what are the dos and the don’ts of a truly great workout that will turn your body in a performance machine?

The Dos

Stretch before and after

Stretching is one thing that is more likely to be absent from a workout, if the person who works out is not careful and smart about it. Stretching may not be the coolest-looking thing in the world and it may make you see yourself as 70 years old, but stretching is absolutely essential. And it is not just because you reduce the possibility of injury. Stretching can actually help you gain more muscle tissue.

Find a partner

Working out with a partner is a gazillion times better than working out alone. First of all, it is not boring as you can talk, joke, have a drink afterwards, etc. In addition to this, it improves your results as you push each other on and turn it into a competition, sooner or later. When you have a partner, you are also far less likely to skip your workouts.

Consider using supplements

There are plenty of high quality sports supplements that will enhance your performance and that will aid you in your search for the ultimate body and performance. From protein powders and shakes that can help you put on muscle mass to energy drinks that will boost your performance and stamina.  Of course, you will be careful about these and only get safe products for reputable manufacturers and sellers.

The Don’ts

Settle in your routine

Everyone who has been working out for more than a few weeks will know what we are talking about. The lure of settling in your little workout routine is very powerful, especially if you are working out alone, without a professional. It is absolutely crucial that you change your routines regularly and that you introduce new exercises and practices if you wish to achieve the best possible results.

Push yourself too hard

There is absolutely nothing wrong with pushing yourself during your workouts. In fact, the way to get the results is to try and do more and harder. Still, there is a limit to what your body can do and to how beneficial certain workouts will be. Once you cross that line, you are doing harm to your body and you are not helping it. Do your research and listen to your body.

Gulp down everything you can find

We have talked about performance supplements and nutritional supplements that can help you achieve results. We have also said that you need to be careful when choosing your aids. And while the best of these can be extremely beneficial, the real products made by reputable manufacturers; some other products can be very harmful to your body. We can all remember the examples from our history where it turned out that some aids were very bad for you. Be careful.

Getting Active about Workout Fashion

Getting Active about Workout Fashion

Those who say that you can’t be fashionable while working out are mistaken. There are plenty of clothes and shoes that are available from many companies that not only boost your confidence while working out, but also help you regulate body temperature and make working out nicer. Below are some ideas that will have you looking great while hitting the gym.

Hats

Although there are many people who find that wearing hats can be distracting while doing activities or exercising, there have been many leaps made in the materials and the way that hats are made. A great example is Under Armour’s lightweight and durable ArmourVent hats. These hats have built-in sweat bands made from their Moisture Transport System which pushes moisture away from the body to the surface of the gear, ArmourVent Mesh which offers a large amount of breathability and fast-drying, and Iso-Chill construction to help take heat away from the body for a cooling effect.

Workout Fashion

Under Armour ArmourVent Adjustable Hat , $27

Cooling Apparel

Fitness brands are continually developing new innovations to make workout clothes perform better, look better, and feel more comfortable. Temperature regulating clothes are a great way to keep you cooler and dry while working out. This includes the North Face’s new ‘Flash Dry’ technology that has micro porous particles that are directly in their shirts, jackets, shorts, and more. The particles are designed to help evaporate sweat faster than ever to keep you dry and not overheated.

Workout Fashion

North Face Better Than Naked Jacket , $130

Not only are there many kinds of cooling jackets and tops, but there are also some really great workout shorts and pants that are make specifically for temperature regulation. For example, Columbia the leader in outdoor apparel has a pair of shorts called the Black Beauty Long Sport Short. Not only are they great for stretching, but the shorts also have Omni-Shade protection which acts as a sun screen (UPF 50) and helps keep you cool as well as Omni-Shield which repels water and stains.

Workout Outfit

Columbia Black Beauty Long Sport Short , $48

Breathable Shoes

The advances made in running and exercise shoes has been extensive, with some companies even going as far as creating shoes that conduct heat away from your skin. The best exercise shoes though, are made out of flexible and breathable material. A great example is from the powerhouse company Nike. Their Flex Run brand of running shoes are made out of a lightweight, durable material that have a webbing system that wraps from midsole to toes, integrating with laces for an adaptive and supportive fit. On top of it all, all workout shoes come in a variety and mixture of dark, muted, or vibrant colors that can go with any outfit.

Workout Outfits

Nike Flex Run Shoes , $75

Accessories

A great way to take charge of your life as well as looking good while doing it is to use activity monitors. Although they are not new to the exercise and fitness world, there have been vast improvements made to these devices. One in particular, the Fitbit Flex, tracks all of your activity including the number of steps you take, the distance you’ve walked or ran, how many calories you have burned, and how long you’ve been exercising. It also keeps track of your sleeping cycles at night and will wake you up silently in the night without waking up a partner. You can also connect it to your smart phone or computer to see all of the data, as well as connecting with your friends so you can compete for some extra motivation!

Count Your Calories not Your Carbs

Count Your Calories not Your Carbs

Many persons get persuaded by fitness professionals and gym trainers into counting their daily intake of carbohydrates. After doing a couple of Biochemistry courses I realized how wrong and misleading this is. I realized that the important factor in losing weight is not your Carbohydrate intake but your Calorie intake . So what is the difference between Calories and Carbohydrates ? Don’t worry if you don’t, many persons don’t know the difference they just go by what their trainers say. Carbohydrates are the body’s main source of energy and it also the one of the most important nutrients. When digested carbohydrates are broken down into glucose which is utilized for its energy by cells, organs and tissues.  According to Medline Plus “Carbohydrates are called simple or complex, depending on their chemical structure. Simple carbohydrates include sugars found naturally in foods such as fruits, vegetables, milk, and milk products. They also include sugars added during food processing and refining. Complex carbohydrates include whole grain breads and cereals, starchy vegetables and legumes.”

Calories, Calories

So what are calories and why are they so important to weight loss ? Calories are basically the units used to measure energy, so it’s the Calorie count of foods tells you the amount of energy in the food, it is usually measured in kJ(kilojoules); 1 calorie is 4.18 kJ. All foods which you consume have calories but they each have a different amount for example according to Keith Ayoob, Ed.D., R.D , pure fat contains nine calories(37 kJ) per gram, Protein and carbohydrates each have four calories(17 kJ) per gram of pure protein or pure carbohydrate and pure alcohol has seven calories (29 kJ) per gram.

However you body only requires a certain amount of calories daily to carry out the necessary biological activities to keep you alive. When you intake more calories than you body needs in a day it stores the excess calories as fats. The amount of calories you need in a day varies depending on factors such as your age, gender, and daily activities. Calorie King has a tool that helps you to calculate your daily Caloric requirement, click here to calculate your daily requirement. Once you have an average on how much calories you need to intake daily , you can now count your calories and cut out any excess calories you consume during the day. It is very easy to keep track of your daily calorie intake because the back of the package of most foods tells you how many calories are in one serving. You can also find the calorie count for more complex foods at Calorie King . Approximately 3500 calories makes up 1 pound of fat so if you intake 500 calories less or burn 500 calories per day you would lose approximately  1 pound per week. You must be careful when exercising and calorie counting because you do not want to drop your daily calorie intake under the required amount. This would put stress on your organs because they would not be getting the required amount of energy to do their job.  You must cater for the amount of calories you burn during exercising. Eating low-calorie foods such as Corn, Banana and Coffee can help you to maintain you calorie intake, Learning how to cook low-calorie meals will also be a plus. However you shouldn’t be too afraid of certain high calorie healthy foods such as Nuts and Avocado , they are actually very beneficial to weight loss when eaten in  moderation.

11 Ways to Detox Daily

11 Ways to Detox Daily

Do detox diets really work? As with all diets, it really depends on too many personal factors to establish whether a particular diet is the real thing. The good thing about detox is, it is a generally a good idea. We may not be able to prevent the onslaught of chemicals we are submitted to on a daily basis, but cleansing ourselves is easy enough. There are so many ways to rejuvenate your body and mind, from detox tea to weekend nature getaways, even the busiest of us can treat themselves from time to time.

Including plenty of fiber into your diet will prevent the very painful ailments that are a symptom of an unhealthy digestive tract, the most common being ulcers, reflux, gallstones, and constipation. Fiber significantly helps with bowel movements, so choose fresh fruits and vegetables, beans, grains and legumes over fiber supplements.

Drink plenty of water, and add a lemon slice for that extra rejuvenating oomph! The mistake most people make is that they drink water only when they’re thirsty and by then, your body is actually severely dehydrated. Change the way you look at your water intake. Drink whenever you can, not when you feel like it. In fact, pour yourself a glass of water this very instant. Make the 2 liters a day a challenge you complete. Daily.

Taking tea early in the day will give you a healthier energy boost than coffee will, and it will satiate you, leaving less room for lunchtime bingeing. The best part about tea is the diversity: maybe you’re an English tea person, or maybe you like lighter herbal mixtures, or maybe you would like to alleviate stomach cramps, in which case you should go for ginger, peppermint or chamomile. There are even specialized weight loss teas, and detox teas, with complementary diet programs.

You cannot live on liquids alone, but a revitalizing smoothie instead of a meal a day is a stimulating change to your meal plan. Whether you take breakfast in the morning or not, a smoothie will keep you satiated for the entirety of the morning rush. If you are willing to sacrifice all the rules of healthy eating because you’re having midnight cravings, whip yourself up a smoothie, there is no shame in blended greens and some water, no matter the hour.

Cut down on sugar, artificial sweeteners, caffeine, tobacco, alcohol, processed foods and white flour. They are all unnecessary and quite avoidable, with no significant nutritional values, and you are paying for your moment of artificial relaxation with cholesterol, dehydration and a guilty conscience. Naturally, don’t immediately switch into a mode of abstinence, instead, try putting one teaspoon of sugar less each time you drink coffee, control yourself when eating chocolate – a row tastes just as good as the whole bar. Have you even tried wheat pasta? It beats white flour pasta in taste.

Stress will easily poison your body. Breathe deep, learn some basic meditation (ease your mind without even leave your computer with Calm.com), take up yoga, and make it a point to focus on positive emotions rather than dwell on what might-have-beens more often. Sleeping 7-8 hours a night is not a luxury for some, but an obligation for all.

Exercise – this is a no brainer, and you really should start working out if you aren’t already. If you simply can’t motivate yourself to make exercise a daily routine, try a different course – join a free online community such as Fitocracy, and compete with friends. The reward system makes up for the lack of immediate weight loss that most people expect when they incorporate 5 minutes a day into their daily routine. Exercising will also straighten out your body and enhance digestion, a key element in the detoxification process.

Sauna The purpose of sweat is to rid the body of toxins, and this is why saunas were invented (actually, they were invented for bathing, but we now have bathtubs for that). If you have no way of steaming your whole body, a steam bath will work wonders for your nasal cavity, stuffy nose and puffy eyes, and can be performed at home. Just boil some water, preferably add some fresh herbs like peppermint and sage, cover yourself with a towel, and breathe deep! (Steam baths are a mini sauna for your face which is definitely a good business to get involved with).

Not any massage will do, in order to detox your system, opt for an intense one, like a deep tissue or sports massage, which will activate pressure points deep underneath your muscle tissue, and release the toxins building up there. You don’t want these toxins running rampant around your body afterwards, so be sure to drink plenty of water to flush them out.

By no means let a detoxification routine get in the way for obligatory drugs you are taking, but you don’t really need to medicate every symptom you experience. Aspirin should certainly be on your list of things that could easily be replaced with a healthier natural remedy. If you take medicine on a regular basis, see what could be replaced – too much of a chemical will have your body adapting to it, so some of your daily supplements probably do you no good anymore in the first place.
