Jo Nesbo to publish retelling of Shakespeare’s Macbeth
Jo Nesbo, the internationally bestselling author of the Harry Hole series, is set to take on one of Shakespeare’s darkest tragedies in 2018.
Set in an unidentified, rainy northern town, Nesbo’s Macbeth pits the ambitions of a corrupt policeman against loyal colleagues, a drug-depraved underworld and the pull of childhood friendships.
‘A thriller about the struggle for power, set both in a gloomy, stormy crime noir-like setting and in a dark, paranoid human mind,’ said Nesbo of Macbeth. ‘A main character who has the moral code and the corrupted mind, the personal strength and the emotional weakness, the ambition and the doubts to go either way… Macbeth does not feel too far from home.’
Nesbo joins acclaimed and bestselling authors including Anne Tyler, Tracy Chevalier and Margaret Atwood, in writing fresh versions of Shakespeare’s works for the Hogarth Shakespeare project.
Becky Hardie, who acquired Nesbo’s Macbeth for the Hogarth series, said that, ‘From the very start we wanted the Hogarth Shakespeare to surprise and excite readers of all kinds from all over the world,’ and that, ‘having an international thriller writer of Jo Nesbo’s stature and popularity on board is the perfect realisation of that wish.’
‘We can’t wait to see what Jo does with Shakespeare’s murderous play,’ said Hardie, Deputy Publishing Director at Chatto & Windus/Hogarth.
Jo Nesbo’s Macbeth will be published on 5th April 2018.

Nesbo Named One of The Hollywood Reporter’s 25 Most Powerful Authors
From The Hollywood Reporter:
Big Number: 30 million books sold worldwide.
Harry Hole, the best-known creation of Norway’s most popular novelist, is getting a high-profile film debut, with Michael Fassbender playing the detective in October 2017’s The Snowman. If the movie is a hit, it could launch a franchise (Nesbo, 56, has 11 Harry Hole novels in the series). Also in development is The Son, a stand-alone novel, with Jake Gyllenhaal attached. And earlier this year, the Nesbo-created TV seriesOccupied, imagining if the Russians invaded Norway, debuted in that country (where it was the most expensive series in history) and on Netflix to strong reviews.

HARRY HOLE IS BACK! THE THIRST – COMING MAY 2017
Jo Nesbo has confirmed that his hardboiled Oslo detective Harry Hole will return in his next novel, THE THIRST, which will be published worldwide in English in May 2017.
THE THIRST continues the story of #1 bestseller POLICE, Harry Hole’s last outing in 2013, which saw the maverick cop protecting those closest to him from a killer wreaking revenge on the police. THE THIRST will see Harry drawn back to the Oslo police force when a serial killer begins targeting Tinder daters with a signature killing method that leads Harry on the hunt of a nemesis from his past. It is the eleventh instalment in Jo Nesbo’s bestselling crime fiction series, which have sold over 30 million copies worldwide and are published in 50 languages.
On the return of Harry Hole in The Thirst, Jo Nesbo says: ‘I was always coming back to Harry; he is my soul mate. But it is a dark soul, so it is – as always – both a thrill and a chilling, emotionally exhausting experience. But Harry and the story make it worth the sleepless nights.’
THE THIRST is available to pre-order now.
