Reading history off tombstones. I wouldn't normally have myself photographed in a cemetery, but Rizal's Japanese girlfriend," O Sei-san," is buried in this Tokyo grave. This brings me closer to completing my long awaited book on Rizal's love life.

Sometimes, historians do their research outside a library, archive or museum. Chance encounter Jakarta 2011, screen capture from a youtube video: No wonder there was a red carpet on the Grand Hyatt driveway. We were waiting for our ride when Benigno S. Aquino III came out, looked at me, and said, "you look familiar." I replied, "you too Mr. President." Then he was off to the State Dinner and we to seafood dinner at a nearby hawkers stall.

This photo was taken In 1984 when I crashed the birthday party of Marcela Agoncillo (daughter of THE Marcela Agoncillo who made the first Philippine flag). E. Aguilar Cruz (left) and Teodoro A. Agoncillo (right) took me under their wings and taught me to fly. Tomorrow, November 9, is centenary of Agoncillo's birth I remember and thank him for making me a historian.

Visited the Meguro Parasite Museum to see what is allegedly the longest tapeworm taken from a human. This 8.8 meter monster was extracted from a Japanese woman. Now that makes me think twice about enjoying sushi and sashimi. The piece of string on the left gives visitors an idea of the length of the tapeworm preserved under glass.
