Give your father a tight hug today. It is a gift some people cannot have today. Looking back I realized that in the end roles reverse, the children become the parent. For those with dads in their senior years take comfort in the scripture passage quoted in my Father's Day Post of eight years ago.

Its been 29 years since my last National Book Award.
No end to the long drought in sight since I have stiff competition from other wonderful books and authors, even if my book is the heavyweight at 3.2 kilos :)

Former National Museum Deputy Director Ana Labrador's spring cleaning turned up photos from the Spring of 1991, when we were postgraduate students in London, she in City University of London and I in the School of Oriental and African Studies. We accompanied UP Professors Elmer and Tita Ordoñez on their sentimental trip to Oxford where they stayed in their youth. We visited their old haunts and had a roast beef lunch at their favorite restaurant "The Mitre." A wager was set, whether I would stay...

The "Summer" term started today, it is now called the "Intersession."
I am all set for six weeks of teaching Fully Online, and hope to find an opportunity to meet my students face to face outside our weekly, synchronous, Kamustahan sessions on Zoom.
One day Rizal will be without his facemask and not fear arrest from IATF :)

Aside from presidential inaugurals, the present National Museum building was the site of a large student demonstration that met Ferdinand Marcos, Sr.'s fifth SONA, the first in his second term on January 26, 1970.
He was sent off from the Session hall with applause, but was greeted by jeers as he made his way out of the Legislative Building. He noted in his diary that night: "We moved out under a hail of stones."

I had long promised to visit former Senator Helena Z. Benitez in "Miranila" her beautiful home on Mariposa Street, Quezon City but kept postponing because she seemed immortal. When she passed away at age 102 in 2016 I thought I would never see Miranila but last weekend I finally visited what is QC's newest heritage destination with a personal guided tour by Petty Benitez Johanot. The comppund now has a Henry Hotel, a Bizu outlet, and an events place.
