But I’m happy to share them with everyone now. (If you are a newsletter subscriber, I hope you opened the newsletter and entered the contest. Fellow Booklover’s Bench authors ha...

ThrillerFest recap 2 — It’s All Writing Fodder
Since I started writing, I’ve come to realize that there’s a “good” side to everything, even if it’s just one more tidbit to file away for a future story. We have to learn to pay attention not only to what we’re seeing, but what we’re feeling, and all our senses—all the time. In order to get to ThrillerFe...

ThrillerFest/CraftFest — John Sandford
They don’t mess around with CraftFest sessions, the day and a half prelude to ThrillerFest, designed to help writers hone the craft. Sessions were 50 minutes long, beginning at 8 AM and running through 6 PM. No built in breaks. It was a brain-overload experience. I’ll be recapping, as always, some of the highlights, starting with one of my favorite author’s presentation. Given all the editing posts I’ve done recently, I thought this would be a...

In the Interview Room — Alexa Bourne
Today I welcome Alexa Bourne to Terry’s Place. Alexa is a teacher by day and a romance writer by nights, weekends and all school holidays. She has written romantic suspense and contemporary romance all set in the UK.
Setting: real, totally made up, or based on a real place?
In my current books, the setting is based on Glenfinnan, Scotland, a village in the Highlands. I needed the freedom to be able to create my own community (Glenhalish), but I wanted specific details of Glenfinnan in there.
You...
