Taking Time Off

birthday cakeI decided that I would celebrate my birthday with a day off from blogging. I’ll spend time reading, maybe planning my next book, and getting ready for SleuthFest in Orlando on Thursday. The blog will carry on as usual for the rest of the week, but today, I’ve got a gift for you. I’ve uploaded a never-before-seen scene from Nowhere to Hide. This is Colleen’s arrival in Orlando, one that never made it into the book. In fact, other than my critique group at the time, nobody’s seen it.

And, a coup...

Sex And Survival

red pencilThis month, The Blood-Red Pencil has been using sex and romance as their theme. At the request of the blog owner, I’m over there today talking about the 12 Steps to Intimacy. However, I thought I’d revisit a post I did in 2010, after attending a workshop given by Linda Howard, who talked about how those 12 steps evolved. If you’re not familiar with using the 12 Steps to Intimacy in your writing, or if you want to see why things work or don’t work when you’re reading, start here, then pop over...

What’s Cooking Wednesday — Turkey Meatball Soup

Hubster and I go to yoga on Wednesday evenings, and I try to have something ‘nukeable’ for a fast dinner when we return. I’d bought some frozen prepared turkey meatballs as “have on hand” food, and was looking at the back of the package when this soup recipe caught my eye. I made it, modifying it (as always) based on what I had on hand. (And no, I didn’t make this on yoga night; I did it earlier in the week and we reheated leftovers after our practice.) Of course, if you’re so inclined, you c...

In the Interview Room — Molly MacRae

Molly MacRaeToday I welcome Molly MacRae back to Terry’s Place. Molly writes the award-winning Haunted Yarn Shop Mysteries.

Favorite beverage while writing

Morning: Tea with milk. My favorites are Scottish breakfast, Irish breakfast, rooibos chai, coconut pu erh, and Kwazulu. Afternoon: Cold tap water. I really, really don’t like water in plastic bottles. Shank of the evening: small glass of beer, preferably something like Fat Tire or Killian’s Irish Red. Occasionally at the end of the evening: a finger or...

Digital Publishing and Kobo Writing Life

What I’m reading: Six Years, by Harlan Coben

SuperStars Writing SeminarsContinuing with my recaps of the Superstars Writing Seminars. Mark Lefevbre from Kobo Writing Life was in attendance again, giving some more insights into indie publishing. I recapped his talk from last year’s seminar, and you can find them here.

Kobo began by making digital books available to as wide an audience as possible. Their theory was that anyone should be able to read any book on any device at any time. The Kobo readers came second, when rea...
