Friday Field Trip — Chihuly in the Gardens

First, a happy 69th wedding anniversary to my parents! Love you both! (It’s really tomorrow, but I don’t post on Saturdays. I don’t think they’ll mind.)

Friend and fellow author Kari Wainwright sent me these pictures. They are Chihuly glass installations at the Botanical Gardens in Phoenix, where she says she visited in late afternoon and stayed through the sunset (which was glorious that evening) until it turned dark. Enjoy!

red pencil

Last month, The Blood-Red Pencil asked me to post the first half of the 12 Steps to Intimacy, which I did. Today, it’s part 2. Since there’s no need to duplicate efforts, you can read the post over there.

What’s Cooking Wednesday — Lazy Day Crockpot Ribs

DeadlyPuzzles_200x300In Deadly Puzzles, Mrs. Yardumian is enjoying a lazy day. Dinner’s in the crock pot, leaving her free to read, knit, and listen to music.

The cowbells clanged as he opened the door, classical music playing softly beneath their harsh interruption. Mrs. Yardumian sat by the fire, knitting, as she’d been when Gordon had first arrived. She smiled as he peeled off his cap and unzipped his parka. He hadn’t been here long, but there was a welcome, homey feel to the place. Lemony furniture polis...

In the Interview Room — Rex Burns

Rex BurnsToday, I welcome Rex Burns to Terry’s Place. Rex is the author of seventeen books, one of which won an Edgar. His latest, BODY SLAM, appeared in February and introduces a father/daughter private detective team.

Plotter or Pantser?

Definitely, I’m a “pantser.” One of the most difficult books I have written was one where I knew what was going to happen. I found myself in a rush to get to the end and tended to be careless toward many of the intermediate steps that led to that conclusion. It’s far...

St. Patrick’s Day in N. Ireland

shamrock

My daughter lives in Northern Ireland, and I thought I’d repeat the post she shared about the holiday for last year. It’s NOT corned beef and cabbage.

St. Patrick’s Day is truly a world-wide holiday, and here in Northern Ireland we celebrate with the best of ‘em. Belfast puts on a big carnival-style parade, complete with floats and musicians. Most people have the day off work and schools are closed. The bars and pubs will be teeming with people, as you might expect. It’s a big day out for adul...

Friday Field Trip — Libations

For those of you who guessed at last week’s field trip, most of you got it right. It was a trip to Africa, and there were pictures from Cape Town, Victoria Falls, and game drives in Hluhlu, Chobe, and Port Elizabeth. The winner of my drawing is Barbara Tobey — Barbara, contact me so I can send you a prize. There’s another question to answer this week.

Things have been busy this past week, with getting Deadly Puzzles ready for pre-order (hope to have more options ready next week), going out of...

In the Interview Room — Mary Reed & Eric Mayer

Ten for Dying Today I welcome Mary Reed and Eric Mayer to Terry’s Place. A married couple, they co-author the Lord Chamberlain mysteries, set in and around Constantinople during the reign of Emperor Justinian, as well as short mystery stories set in various eras.

Plotter or Pantser?

EM: As far as the entire book goes, I’m a plotter. I have no sense of direction. I get lost even when I know where I’m supposed to be going and have a route all laid out. If I set off in a random direction with no destination I’d...
