J-E-T-S Sex Sex

Boy, this Mark Sanchez story just keeps getting worse and worse. 24 year old poster child for the NFL, and the New York Jets, develops a sexual relationship with a 17 year old high school senior. Wow!

Joe Namath was the darling of New York in the late 1960's and enjoyed the sexual offerings placed before him. But a high school senior? Hard to imagine.

As a dad, there is simply no way I would ever let my 17 year old date (and then overnight) with a 24 year old, particularly a public playboy like Sanchez.

And the Jets owner needs to quietly call his QB and remind him that he is the very expensive face of the franchise in a city full of lovely women to choose from. Dating and bedding a high school senior not only reflects poor judgment on his part but also a stunted emotional development. Feel free to   >>>>>   Read Entire Post

We're #37

Thank you! Your faithful listening to the show and our podcasts as well as your interaction here and on Facebook/Twitter and email has made The Allen Hunt Show #37 in the Talkers Magazine "Heavy Hundred" list for the second year in a row.

In contrast to the traditional political right and left shows, the Allen Hunt Show stands alone as the only place to truly zero in on what's right and what's wrong. Everyone else clings to politics while we champion your moral compass.

Driver to the Super Bowl

When Anita and I flew to Green Bay this past fall, we were seated on the plane near a group of lovely ladies all wearing pink #80 jerseys. That reminded me of an old Rick Reilly column about #80 that I read years ago and still remember vividly.

Donald was very good at stealing cars. You can tell that from his hands scarred from breaking out windows. As a 7th grader, he and his brother lived in the back of a U-Haul truck with their mother and four siblings for a month. Stealing cars made them some money. And it also made Donald very fast, elusive, and tough.

Until the day, the police chased young Donald as he drove a stolen car. He erratically T-boned an elderly woman's car as she was trying to back out of her driveway. Donald jumped out and started sprinting, was beating the cops by a block, when something made him circle back and check on the woman. She was fine and told him, "Go sit on my porch." For some reason,   >>>>>   Read Entire Post

Integrity vs Integrity

Two powerful stories today really moved me. Two stories of men whose integrity is not for sale.

First, Gil Meche, a major league pitcher due for a $12MM contract this year. Gil has not performed at a level of which he is proud so he is walking away rather than collecting the final $12MM on his contract. Regardless of how much he has been paid before, it is remarkable that anyone would do this. His moral compass did not allow him to accept a large sum of money for failing to deliver. That is impressive. Honor.

Second, the touching story from American Idol you may have heard. No, I am not watching anymore. Just not interesting to me without Simon. But >>>>   Read Entire Post

Mediocre Movies

Many speaking engagements coming up, so we spent this past weekend relaxing. Watched some NFL playoffs. Took long walks. Very nice.

And rented two movies. One awful, one average.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

AHS Grade: C

This one surprised me. Not great but better than expected. Michael Cera is always entertaining with his low affect, lackadaisical approach to life. In many ways he captures the trend toward the passive American slacker male. Not sure I should laugh at that but it was funny nonetheless.

Cera plays a 22 year old rock star wanna be who meets a young woman with an interesting past, to say the least. In order to date her (if you can use the verb "date" for what now passes for a relationship), he must meet and defeat her 7 "ex-es," none of whom live in Texas.

A very creative approach to a movie and story-telling. That alone was worth the time and effort to watch. All in all, a decent   >>>>>   Read Entire Post

Robust Faith

My phone rang on Sunday afternoon. A close friend in Atlanta radio offered his love and kindness to me during my family's "time of loss and grief." He then realized I had no idea what he was talking about. We soon discovered the truth. Sadly, the son of our dear mutual friend, Alan Hunt, had died tragically on Sunday morning.

Yes, it is a little odd that Alan Hunt and Allen Hunt both work in radio together in Atlanta. Thus, many good folks have graciously reached out to me over these past few days, not realizing that it was Alan's family rather than mine who was suffering.

But after speaking with Alan regarding the sudden death of his son, Alan's robust faith in God inspired me. We all know that life is fragile and can turn on a dime. We all also often forget that fragility and get regular reminders at moments like this. That is where real life and faith come together. The words in Romans 8 remind me where my hope   >>>>>   Read Entire Post

My Friend, Alan Hunt

Thank you to the many friends and listeners who have reached out to me over the past 48 hours, thinking that my son has passed away.

However, it is actually Alan Hunt, a colleague and friend of mine at WSB here in Atlanta, whose son died tragically on Sunday morning. Alan runs a lot of the engineering and board for Georgia football and other shows. It is a little strange that we almost share the exact same name and we often chuckle about that. He is a fine person.

Please keep his family in your prayers this week during this season of loss. The funeral will be on   >>>>>   Read Entire Post

Movie of the Year

Took a day off on Friday and went to see "The King's Speech."

What a marvelous movie! It is remarkable story-telling. The movie chronicles the stammering problem of the royal who ultimately becomes King George VI (played by Colin Firth). Second in line after his brother, David, who abdicates to run off with the sexy American, Wallace Simpson, George (affectionately known as Bertie) struggles with stammering and a debilitating fear of public speaking for his entire life. Mocked by family and friends, his self-confidence is next to nil. Nevertheless, he must prepare to deliver a speech over radio to the British people at the start of World War II. The mere thought of it brings him to his knees, particularly after already having been humiliated on several occasions when he has tried to speak in public before.

The movie is the perfect anti-Avatar. This movie is long on plot, filled with fascinating relationships, and   >>>>>   Read Entire Post

Pastor not Professor

Tucson tragedy. It is on all of our minds. As President Obama speaks today to the nation, my prayer is that he will be more pastor than professor. Offer comfort and hope rather than analysis and prescriptions.

I hope he reminds us of some of the heroes of Tucson. One unhinged man and his evil act also brought about remarkable acts of courage, goodness and kindness from dozens of other people. Like Dorwan Stoddard. Dorwan and his wife, Mavy, knew each other growing up in Tucson, but both moved away, got married, and had kids. When they both were widowed, they each moved back to Tucson to begin again. They got re-acquainted, then married 15 years ago.

Dorwan and Mavy gave generously to other people. They supported people in need through their church, Mountain Avenue Church of Christ. Together, they delivered meals and assistance as well as visits and flowers to those who were sick. 76 year old Dorwan was a retired   >>>>>   Read Entire Post
