Flashback Friday: Foundation
For this week’s Flashback Friday post, I’m happy to have science-fiction author, G. S. Jennsen, here for a guest post on how the Foundation Series influenced her as a writer.
When asked if there is a science fiction novel, author or series that I read when I was young which impacted my life and my journey as a writer, there has always been only one answer for me: The Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov.
Foundation wasn’t the first science fiction novel I ever read, and it was probably about the f...

Book Cover Throwback: Dragonsong
This week’s Book Cover Throwback: Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey.
What I Love about this Cover: The blues in this cover fit the sea setting of the book, and I love the fire lizards. Mix music & dragons and I was sold as a kid.
What I Don’t Love about this Cover: Menolly is wearing make-up. When she was still a child at the seahold, she didn’t wear any.

Pure Jonal Review
Pure Jonel did a great review of Amaskan’s Blood, giving it 4/5 stars.
“[A] fantasy novel in its truest form…these well-developed individuals held me captive. It was a very strong start to a fantasy series that I very much look forward to following.”

Overall Rating: 6.5/10
We played this with friends and thus, had the optimal four players. It’s a neat little card game that can certainly take longer than expected.
General Mechanics: Each player is a “time traveler” with their own identity and secret mission (though both of these...

Top 10 Things I Learned from My 1st Book Signing
Authors talk at length about their experiences writing a novel, seeking publication, getting published, etc., but few discuss their first book events.
Mine was a week ago (2/21) at the geekiest coffeehouse in Seattle, Wayward Coffeehouse.
I am continually amazed at the support of friends and acquaintances in my writing journey. One week later, and I’m still in a state of shock and completely humbled by the entire event. Yet there were definitely some learning experiences in the evening!
So witho...
Scrivener Saturday: Five Ways to Use Split Screen
This week’s Scrivener Saturday – Five Ways to Use Split Screen Beyond the Corkboard & Outline Views.
Seems like a no-brainer, right? I’ve run into quite a few authors who didn’t know that the split screen in Scrivener wasn’t limited to index cards(the corkboard) and outline mode. See picture below:
What I haven’t seen is people using it like this:
So what did I do differently? I opened another document of mine up top instead. Other than index cards or outline view, here are Five Ways to Use Spl...

Flashback Friday: Cosmic Trilogy
For this week’s Flashback Friday post, I’m happy to have science-fiction author, Michelle Murrain, here for a guest post on how The Cosmic Trilogy (aka The Space Trilogy) by C. S. Lewis influenced her as a writer.
When I was a teenager, the first science fiction series I read was “The Cosmic Trilogy” (often also called “The Space Trilogy”) by C. S. Lewis.
Interestingly enough, these books supposedly came out of a conversation between Lewis and his friend, J.R.R. Tolkien. It would be a year or...

Book Cover Throwback: I Am Legend
This week’s Book Cover Throwback: I am Legend by Richard Matheson.
What I Love about this Cover: The contrast between the castle and the main character. It’s eye catching in an old book cover way.
What I Don’t Love about this Cover: While the infection gives the “zombies” vampire-like symptoms, this cover makes it look more like they are actual vampires and less like they are former humans infected by some disease.
