MNG: The Castles of Burgundy

This week’s Monday Night Gaming / MNG: The Castles of Burgundy

If you haven’t heard, there’s a horrific heat wave sitting on top of the Pacific Northwest. While my friends in the south may laugh at folks complaining about a high of 95, you have to remember three things:

a) That is not a normal temperature up here ever
b) No one has air conditioning
c) Our houses are built to keep in the heat. That means if it’s 95 outside, it’s over 100 inside.

Monday Night Gaming MNG: The Castles of Burgundy ReviewWe won’t have screens for our windows until the end...

B&N B-Fest

My event calendar has gotten a bit complicated for the month of June, so I wanted to explain a bit more what I was doing at Barnes & Nobles’ first Teen Book Fest taking place June 10-12.

Barnes Noble Book Fest Teen Raven Oak

The Teen Book Fest is a three day set of events to connect teen readers with YA and New Adult writers. There will be trivia contests, readings, signings, and even a writers’ workshop to help aspiring teen writers become better writers.

All Barnes & Noble stores in the United States are taking part in this festi...

Crypticon Wrap-Up

Crypticon 2016This past weekend I was at Crypticon Seattle in Author’s/Artist’s Alley. Besides seeing a few friends and meeting a few more for the first time in person(waves at author Crystal Connor!), I met a ton of awesome new people like artist Josh Monster and his wife Jessica, who had the booth next to mine. They were my first sales of the weekend, and Jessica proceeded to tell everyone who came to my booth or hers that my books were so amazing, she couldn’t put them down. (I sold a lot of books becau...

Flashback Friday

I am so dreadfully behind on writing deadlines and unpacking that for now, my Flashback Friday and Flashforward Friday posts are going on hiatus.

I will still continue to post Monday Night Gaming posts on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month and Throwback Thursdays. Friday posts may return at some point.

Flashback Friday Hiatus

Happy writing to me!

GeekGirlCon Panelist

I got word this past weekend that I’ll be a panelist at Geek Girl Con October 8-9, 2016!

GeekGirlCon

So far, my panels will be:

Loving What You Want

PANELISTS: Me, Fran Stewart, Bridget A. Natale, and Hafidha Acuay.
DESCRIPTION: Women play Halo. Boys love My Little Pony. Everyone loves Rey from Star Wars VII. And why not? How do we break down the antiquated rules for gendered fandoms? How do we welcome outsiders into the fold? How do we respectfully join a fandom that’s “not for us?” Join us as we discuss...

MNG: Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon

This week’s Monday Night Gaming / MNG: Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon

MNG: Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon

One of my favorite games was Chocobo’s Dungeon 2, which was an adventure game (with a nice plot line) coupled with a dungeon crawler. The main characters crawled through randomly generated dungeons in search of loot and bad guys. Very Rogue-like. (And if you didn’t know, Rogue is one of my favorites as well.)

When the Pokemon franchise first entered the dungeon crawler game with Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, it was like Christmas f...

FF: Deerskin

This week’s Flashback Friday: Deerskin by Robin McKinley

TRIGGER WARNING: This book deals with some subjects that may trigger certain folks. I will not be explicit, but wanted to warn folks just in case.

Flashback Friday Deerskin by Robin McKinleyWhen I first read this book, I was fifteen-years-old. Still young enough and naive enough to not be jaded by the world around me. My sarcasm was highly undeveloped, as were my writing skills, and I still viewed the world with the eyes of a child.

I’m not sure why I read Deerskin, though I think...

TT: Alas, Babylon

This week’s Throwback Thursday: Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank.

…aka the first post-apocalyptic book I ever read. Thanks Mrs. Gorenflo for having us read this.
Alas Babylon Cover

What I Love about This Cover: It portrays what this book is about in a unique way. While the reactions and consequences of nuclear war are here, this book is all about the characters–how they react, what they do when stressed to the breaking point, how they fight to survive in a radioactive war, etc. This cover really shows that by displayi...

FF: 5 Techs!

For this week’s Flashforward Friday: 5 Techs! Or in more detail, lots of upcoming technology that is so going to change the future.

I’ve got a serious deadline here, so this will be a little on the short side. I’m excited about some of the new tech I see coming out and how this will change society.
