Crypticon Wrap-Up
This past weekend I was at Crypticon Seattle in Author’s/Artist’s Alley. Besides seeing a few friends and meeting a few more for the first time in person(waves at author Crystal Connor!), I met a ton of awesome new people like artist Josh Monster and his wife Jessica, who had the booth next to mine. They were my first sales of the weekend, and Jessica proceeded to tell everyone who came to my booth or hers that my books were so amazing, she couldn’t put them down. (I sold a lot of books becau...

GeekGirlCon Panelist
I got word this past weekend that I’ll be a panelist at Geek Girl Con October 8-9, 2016!
So far, my panels will be:
Loving What You WantPANELISTS: Me, Fran Stewart, Bridget A. Natale, and Hafidha Acuay.
DESCRIPTION: Women play Halo. Boys love My Little Pony. Everyone loves Rey from Star Wars VII. And why not? How do we break down the antiquated rules for gendered fandoms? How do we welcome outsiders into the fold? How do we respectfully join a fandom that’s “not for us?” Join us as we discuss...

MNG: Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon
One of my favorite games was Chocobo’s Dungeon 2, which was an adventure game (with a nice plot line) coupled with a dungeon crawler. The main characters crawled through randomly generated dungeons in search of loot and bad guys. Very Rogue-like. (And if you didn’t know, Rogue is one of my favorites as well.)
When the Pokemon franchise first entered the dungeon crawler game with Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, it was like Christmas f...

FF: Deerskin
TRIGGER WARNING: This book deals with some subjects that may trigger certain folks. I will not be explicit, but wanted to warn folks just in case.
When I first read this book, I was fifteen-years-old. Still young enough and naive enough to not be jaded by the world around me. My sarcasm was highly undeveloped, as were my writing skills, and I still viewed the world with the eyes of a child.
I’m not sure why I read Deerskin, though I think...

TT: Alas, Babylon
…aka the first post-apocalyptic book I ever read. Thanks Mrs. Gorenflo for having us read this.
What I Love about This Cover: It portrays what this book is about in a unique way. While the reactions and consequences of nuclear war are here, this book is all about the characters–how they react, what they do when stressed to the breaking point, how they fight to survive in a radioactive war, etc. This cover really shows that by displayi...

FF: 5 Techs!
I’ve got a serious deadline here, so this will be a little on the short side. I’m excited about some of the new tech I see coming out and how this will change society.

MNG: Raptor
This past Saturday was International Tabletop Day, so my husband and I spent it hopping from game store to game store while playing games with various friends. We began it at Card Kingdom/Cafe Mox, who was celebrating their five-year anniversary in Ballard with MoxCon. We played with two Magic duel decks (Blessed vs. Cursed) I won at the ECCC Worldbuilders Charity Event and afterwards, played Raptor. (Afterwards, we went to a new gaming store near us c...

FF: The Witch of Blackbird Pond
I first read this book in 6th grade. Assigned reading by the teacher, I wanted to read other things though admitted that the word witch in the title was intriguing. As a kid, I enjoyed horror flicks and spooky things so I thought this book was going to be about witches.
Imagine my surprise when it talked of Puritans settling in the northeast and their fears that women who could read (or do other “strange” thin...
