Words of Comfort: Bride and cross.

When God draws a sinner to Himself and saves him, he becomes part of the virgin Bride of Christ. The believer who has seen the love of God in Christ will take up his cross and follow Him (see Mark 8:34).

Words of Comfort: Miracles and worship.

There are times when the miraculous happens and convinces the believer that what he is experiencing could only be the hand of God. It is always a wonderful mystery as to why God would condescend to involve man in working out His great purposes. It is also a great mystery as to how He could possibly orchestrate circumstances of the future so perfectly. In such experiences words don’t suffice. One can only bow in worship.

Words of Comfort: Moon and buildings.

“Science flies you to the moon. Religion flies you into buildings. The second sentence is false. Religion does not turn you into a terrorist. The overwhelming majority of religious people have similar values to yours; my church-going grandmother would have been just as horrified at people using their faith to justify murdering people as the most hardened atheist, and there have been atheist individuals who also think they are justified in killing people for the cause. So stop saying this!” Pr...

Words of Comfort: Well of salvation.

The Ten Commandments are like the ten camels that carried Abraham’s servant in search of a bride for his beloved son Isaac (Gen. 24:10–20). He prayed that the bride-to-be would be evidenced by the fact that she would have consideration for the camels. When Rebekah saw the camels, she ran to the well to get water for them.

God the Father sent His Spirit to search for a bride for His only begotten Son. He has chosen the Ten Commandments to carry this special message from His Lord. While we may n...

Words of Comfort: Favor in foreign lands.

Abraham was a foreigner in a land in which he had the favor of the people. It is our prayer that governments give us favor for the cause of the gospel. The great missionary Hudson Taylor said, “When I get to China, I will have no claim on anyone for anything. My claim will be alone in God and I must learn before I leave England to move men through God by prayer alone.”

Words of Comfort: Sacrifice a human being.

God commanded Abraham to do something that He had previously forbidden: sacrifice a human being. The location of this human sacrifice would be on a mountain of God’s choosing. While Abraham and his soon-to-be-sacrificed son, Isaac, were walking, Isaac noticed that they did not have a lamb for a sacrifice (v. 7). And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering” (v. 8).
We know that God stopped Abraham from sacrificing his only son on a mountain in the land...

Words of Comfort: P.Z.

“Boy, I really do hate these guys. You've got a discussion going, talking about why you're an atheist, or what atheism should mean to the community, or some such topic that is dealing with our ideas and society, and some smug [obscenity] comes along and announces that ‘Atheism means you lack a belief in gods. Nothing more. Quit trying to add meaning to the term.’ As if atheism can only be some platonic ideal floating in virtual space with no connections to anything else; as if atheists are pe...

Words of Comfort: Sodom's sin.

Some claim that Sodom was judged because of their "inhospitality." However, the Bible is clear that Sodom was given over to homosexuality. The Scriptures say that Lot was "oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men"--people who "indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority" (2 Peter 2:7-10). Jude 1:7 warns “Sodom and Gomorrah…having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of etern...

Words of Comfort: Pain.

“Why do Christian women still have period pains and childbirth pains if Jesus died for their sins?”Christians will be under the Genesis curse right up until the time when God removes it from creation. When Jesus suffered and died for our sins, He purchased our redemption. When God’s Kingdom comes to this earth and God’s will is done on this earth as it is in Heaven, we will take custody of the purchased possession.

Words of Comfort: Brain activity.

“The biggest loser is he who lives in fear of an imaginary punishment and in hope of an imaginary reward, instead of appreciating that this is the only life we have.”  You are convinced that this one life is the only life we have. You no doubt have based this on the knowledge that when someone dies it’s all over because there is no life in the body. This is because the life has left the body. There is no brain activity because it is the life that gives the brain its activity.
