Words of Comfort: Saving Egypt.

The history of Joseph, who saved his family and all of Egypt from death due to starvation, foreshadows the Messiah to come, who has the power to save us, whether Jew or Gentile, from eternal damnation.

Words of Comfort: Faithful laborers.

The Bible is careful to list genealogies to show the faithfulness of God regarding His promises. The New Testament also lists names (often at the end of epistles) of some who have been faithful to God. There you will find names of those who “labored” with Paul, were called his “fellow workers,” and “a faithful and beloved brother.” May God be able to count on each of us as His faithful laborers, and fellow workers in the gospel.

The terror of the Lord.

The world has a bias toward idolatry. The lost would never begin to believe that God could or would terrify. However, a little honest reading of Scripture will convince them that God is to be greatly feared. The apostle Paul said that it is knowledge of the terror of the Lord that should cause the Christian to persuade men and woman to flee to the Savior (see 2 Cor. 5:11).

Little fire.

“Indulged children, like Dinah, often become a grief and shame to their families. Her pretense was, to see the daughters of the land, to see how they dressed, and how they danced, and what was fashionable among them; she went to see, yet that was not all, she went to be seen too. She went to get acquaintance with the Canaanites, and to learn their ways. See what came of Dinah’s gadding. The beginning of sin is as the letting forth of water. How great a matter does a little fire kindle! We sho...

Words of Comfort: Saved from God.

It is legitimate to come to the Savior in fear. We have greatly wronged the One who gave us life by violating His Law, and His wrath abides upon us. If we do not repent and trust in the Savior, we will reap the terrifying fruit of our actions: death and everlasting hell. What a fearful thing it is to fall into the hands of the living God (Heb. 10:31)! R. C. Sproul rightly said that Jesus doesn’t save us to God, He saves us from God.

Words of Comfort: Omniscient witness.
The words “God is witness between you and me” should not be taken lightly. God is the omniscient witness. He is ever-present and sees all—all thoughts, all actions, all intent, and all desire. Even the darkness is pure light to Him. Nothing is hidden from His holy eyes, and we should therefore live in the light of such a fearful truth.![]()

Hannah and Rachel.

“Envy is grieving at the good of another, than which no sin is more injurious both to God, our neighbor, and ourselves. But this was not all, she said to Jacob, give me children or else I die—A child would not content her; but because Leah has more than one, she must have more too…Observe a difference between Rachel’s asking for this mercy, and Hannah’s (1 Sam 1:10, etc). Rachel envied, Hannah wept: Rachel must have children, and she died of the second; Hannah prayed for this child, and she h...

Words of Comfort: Soul-winners.

“You all desire to glorify Christ by becoming soul-winners—I hope you do—and be it remembered that, other things being equal, he is the fittest in God’s hand to win souls who pities souls most. I believe he preaches best who loves best, and in the Sunday-school and in private life each soul-seeker shall have the blessing very much in proportion to his yearning for it. Paul becomes a savior of many because his heart’s desire and prayer to God is that they may be saved. If you can live without...
