Crown of Stars as a trilogy?

[info:] lnhammer

When you initially conceived of the Crown of Stars as a trilogy, how did you imagine the events of the story would be divided up by book?

The material that makes up the Crown of Stars series was originally intended to be a trilogy with a sequel trilogy to follow. That's all I remember, and I cannot for the life of me find my original synopsis, if there even was an original synopsis, which I doubt, that would give an actual outline of what I was thinking at the time. I'm pretty sure t...

Babel Clash, Ken Scholes, and Me

The utterly fabulous (as opposed to only regularly fabulous) Ken Scholes and I are co-blogging over at Babel Clash and our first post is up.

We'll be blogging from Sept 15 to 28, to support our new books (my Traitors' Gate is already out as I am sure all of you know!, and Ken's Cantcle is due in October. Ken and I will be doing 5 joint signings/readings/appearances in late Oct/early Nov. on the West Coast as well as attending World Fantasy Convention.

What I did yesterday

E Lau Hoe. The race sponsor calls it a 33 mile race; the newspaper article says it's a 32 mile race. I report; you decide. How long did it feel? Oh, about a thousand miles.

My crew is the Manu O Ke Kai Masters crew. We came in 36 out of 44 (that finished the race; we overheard on the radio at least one crew going in at Waikiki for some unknown trouble). That's not bad. Not as good a time as a few of the experienced members of our crew would have wished, but the last 90-120 minutes of...

Hive Mind Question - Female Characters in Epic Fantasy

The fabulous Ken Scholes (Lamentation and the forthcoming Canticle) and I will be doing several reading/signing appearances together in late October/early November. Also, we'll be co-blogging on Borders Books Babel Clash blog from Sept 15 - 28 (yikes).

Anyway, having one brain to rub together between us, we're trying to get some of the material written in advance (what a concept), and one thing we're going to touch on is the presence of female characters in epic fantasy, or the lack thereof.

I...

Honolulu Book Signing and a review of Traitors' Gate

Honolulu Sept 12 at 5 pm, Barnes & Noble Kahala Mall. Be there. Please!

Also, yes, I do vanity search when I have a new book out because I am just that pathetic. Or that desperate for positive comments. Or both. Or something else (to be listed in comments if you know what it is).

Anyway, here is a simply wonderful review (not really spoilery, unless you are deeply sensitive to such things) which also contains (in its last paragraph) a truly insightful analysis of one element of the Crossro...

For me, reading a really good novel is like racing: while you are in it, you are living so entirely in the moment that your thoughts are nowhere but on the next word, the next page, the next stroke with your blade (paddle). You are nowhere but there; the mind is fully in the present experience.

That being so, when you finish it's almost a shock. Suddenly you are back in the world where your thoughts wander forward and backward and elsewhere and inward and outward; such thoughts are my nor...
