Carne Cruda: Recensione su Horror Magazine

Online su Horror Magazine la recensione di Massimiliano Ruzzante di 'Carne Cruda' (Cut Up Publishing, 2017), contenente il racconto 'Rastrellamento' di Richard Laymon e la mia novella 'Area52'.
​Dalle recensione: (...) La seconda novella è l'inedita  Area 52: La Fabbrica delle Puttane Zombie dello scrittore romano. Suddivisa in vari capitoli, la storia è ambientata nel ventitreesimo secolo nel mondo distopico e cannibalico dell'apocalittica Parigi Sud-5. Personaggi e luoghi si ricollegano ai precedenti romanzi dell'autore (Naraka: L'Apocalisse della carne e Shanti: La Città Santa), tematiche incluse. In questa capitale cannibalica della lussuria e della perdizione, fa l'ingresso in scena  uno spietato serial killer chiamato “Il Santo”, che stermina le prostitute intralciando così i proficui affari del boss Big Blue. Per ovviare al problema si decide così di creare un progetto denominato “Area 52”, una struttura segreta che sperimenta un sistema di clonazione accelerato, dedicato a rifornire di prostitute semi-umane il mercato del sesso. Ritroveremo in primis la bella e letale Kiki, uno dei personaggi più affascinanti del mondo “narakiano”, che in questa storia cercherà di ribellarsi con tutti i mezzi al tragico destino che le hanno assegnato, vincendo le residue debolezze ed ergendosi a simbolo di riscatto di un'intera categoria. In un susseguirsi di “cartoline dall'inferno”, capitolo dopo capitolo, l'autore non mancherà di “deliziare” l'inerme lettore con un menù di sofisticate pietanze culinarie a base di pregiate parti anatomiche umane, il tutto descritto nel consueto stile lirico che rimanda a generi quali il weird, l'horror più “hardcore”, la fantascienza distopica e il pulp tarantiniano. Rhysling & Elgin Award 2017 Candidates

I'm happy to learn that the poetry collection Sacrificial Nights (Kipple Officina Libraria, June 2016), co-written with Bruce Boston, was nominated for the SFPA Elgin Award 2017 (Full-length Books category), and that the poem The Great Unknown (from Sacrificial Nights), co-written with Bruce Boston, was nominated for the SFPA Ryshing Award 2017.

Recensione di Miriam Mastrovito di CARNE CRUDA

Online sul blog Il Flauto di Pan la recensione di Miriam Mastrovito di 'CARNE CRUDA - Giardini delle Delizie', appena uscito per Cut Up Publishing, libro che contiene la mia novella inedita AREA 52, insieme alla novella finora mai tradotta in Italiano RASTRELLAMENTO di Richard Laymon.

​Estratto dalla recensione: Richard Laymon e Caleb Battiago si affiancano in questo volume, raccontandoci, in un virtuale coro a due voci, altrettanti volti di un futuro post-apocalittico. Sebbene assolutamente indipendenti e diversi fra loro, infatti,  i racconti proposti rimandano entrambi a un domani immaginario in cui il mondo, così come lo conosciamo,  ha raggiunto un punto di rottura e il concetto stesso di umanità sembra essersi vaporizzato in una nube mefitica (...)

(...) Con Area 52  compiamo un balzo nel ventitreesimo secolo  per tornare a Parigi Sud 5, l’inferno cannibalico per eccellenza, il luogo in cui “etica e morale vengono succhiate come caramelle alla menta e sputate quando non sanno più di niente”.  In questa capitale della perdizione, un serial killer soprannominato il Santo sta falcidiando le prostitute al servizio di Big Blue. Mentre i suoi scagnozzi si danno da fare per risolvere il giallo e catturare l’assassino che sta intralciando i suoi affari, il temibile  boss della criminalità organizzata dalla pelle color cobalto decide di finanziare e promuovere la messa a punto del progetto Area 52. Se tutto dovesse andare secondo i piani,  non ci sarebbe mai più penuria di puttane, nemmeno se centinaia di killer fossero pronti a farle fuori. Non entrerò nel merito del progetto per non privarvi del piacere della scoperta, preparatevi però a rincontrare delle donne d’eccezione che, in questa vicenda, giocheranno un ruolo fondamentale. In prima linea rivedremo la bella quanto letale Kiki, probabilmente uno dei personaggi più riusciti fra i tanti partoriti dall’orrido mondo narakiano.

Qui avremo occasione di conoscere in modo più approfondito il suo passato, un iter di sofferenza e umiliazioni, scandito da tre regole semplici quanto indispensabili: mangiare, lavarsi i denti, sopravvivere. Una sorta di mantra appreso dalla madre – la cui sorte non è stata migliore della sua – e che l’accompagna in una società in cui le donne sono private di qualsiasi dignità e relegate al rango di oggetti. Nonostante ciò, la sua è una storia in cui non sembra esserci spazio per la debolezza, a stupire è proprio la forza con cui Kiki riesce a ribellarsi e a sfuggire ripetutamente al percorso che qualcun altro ha tracciato per lei, divenendo quasi un tragico simbolo di riscatto per l’intera categoria d’appartenenza.

È una sequenza di cartoline dall’inferno, intrise di sangue e poesia, quella che si snoda pagina dopo pagina, una carrellata truculenta e grottesca in cui l’umanità si sfalda eppure, in qualche modo, si riafferma. Anche in questo caso il sesso diviene una macchina dispensatrice di morte e il girone in cui ci ritroviamo ingabbiati non ammette vie di fuga, tuttavia rimane aperto uno spiraglio che profuma di rivalsa e hai colori di  un’Ape Regina.
