Ford F-350 Work Trucks, cont. (One Morning in Maine)

We caught the c. 1980 Ford F-350 Custom at Condon's in Buck's Harbor, Maine. Maybe you know the place from Robert McCloskey's One Morning in Maine. There was a Jeep for sale at Condon's last summer. We posted this more-or-less handmade F-350 in nearby Sedgwick, Maine last year. Here's a 1950 Ford F-350 way out west. And a purposeful 1985 Ford F-350 in New Hampshire.

Why Sailing is the Next Great American Pastime

Basha Burwell photo
"...Downeast wryness is prized here, which may suggest some context for the road sign just inside our town line proclaiming Brooklin [pop. 1800] The Boatbuilding Capital of the World..."My piece on Sailing is up at Wildsam.

c. 1988 BMW 528. Martha's Vineyard.

Henry Behrens photographs. Could be a bit off on model and date.  We loved this 1972 BMW 2002 caught in Cambridge. And a 1968 BMW 2002 here in Maine. Not so keen on the BMW i3. But how about a spry BMW 1600 convertible?

Mercedes Benz SL 190. Brooklin, Maine.

Only car we know that looks good in whitewalls. We caught the SL190 at The Brooklin Inn. Last SL 190 we posted was in Blue Hill Maine. And how about this 1954 Mercedes Benz 220 Cabriolet?

Jaguar XKE Denver

From Markus Anstadt: 2 XKE coupes spotted around Denver. Late 1960s to early 1970s vintage. Enzo Ferrari admired this design.

AL: Seen our post on Joan Baez, Bob Dylan and the XKE?

1968 Ford LTD. Bedford NH

From Reid Cunningham: "With my new phone I was able to get night shots of a 1968 LTD in Bedford NH. The license plate says it all about the color, LIMEGLD. I love full-size sporty iron, having owned a 2 door 1972 LTD (AL: we posted a '73 LTD Country Squire in all her woodgrain vinyl glory); a 1974 Chevrolet Caprice convertible (AL: here's a '75 Caprice, one of Langdon Clay's Night Cars of New York); and a 1972 Pontiac GranVille convertible. (AL: here's a '72 Pontiac Catalina convertible.) The lime-gold paint was in perfect shape, and the combination of the hidden headlights for the top of the line LTD and the 390, plus the bottle caps and body-colored wheels, manage to convey a certain...purposefulness."

AL: we posted a slightly chunkier 1970 Ford Torino from NJ last spring. And another 1968 Torino in southern Saskatchewan. Then there was the 1975 Torino racing up the Maine Turnpike. And the 1970 Gran Torino in Marfa.

Okay, and a 1972 Gran Torino in Marathon, Texas.

1957 Pontiac Star Chief Safari wagon

This unit is going on the block next weekend at the 45th annual Owls Head Museum auction, at Owls Head, Maine. Here's a 1957 Pontiac Laurentian from Swift Current, Saskatchewan. And a 1957 Chevrolet 210 wagon, also from Saskatchewan. A vernacular 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Nomad from where else but...?  and Earl Swift's Auto-Biography on the '57 Chevrolet wagon.

...and here's a '57 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Safari that's on the block at Hemmings:
