1987 GMC 2500

from Reid Cunningham: "Since I love your white square body (AL: below) here is my 87. Base model, but with every heavy duty box checked on the order form, brakes, battery, steering, suspension, transmission, you name it. Last year of the square body and first for throttle body injection. 350, turbo 400, 4:11 gears. The extra low end torque of the TBI and 4:11's surprised a lot of cars in the city when they tried to beat you to the next light and jump ahead of you. Vinyl bench seat, crank windows. The only amenities were an AM/FM radio (mono!) and a lighter. Sadly it was totalled 7 years ago when a guy in a brand new Infiniti SUV ran a red light. Thankfully everyone walked away with only bruises and scrapes but the truck was beyond repair. I only owned it a year but I still miss it. Replaced with the most opposite vehicle imaginable, a Fiat 500 convertible, but that's another story."

1971 GMC 1500

From Alex Emond, in Saskatchewan:  "I spotted this clean classic in Swift Current. Quite basic ... a good looking, practical truck, almost 50 years old ... easy to overlook that fact."AL: we think these early 70s trucks look a heckuva lot more modern than the overfed 2021 model-year bulksters. Modern as in cool, sleek, form-follows-function. Today's massive units are like today's mainstream movies out of Hollywood: big-budget vehicles with childish story lines and no character development. Gargantuan. Boastful. False. Aggressive--hey! Remind you of anyone?

Porsche Speedster. Really?

Reid Cunningham saw the Speedster in Concord NH. It had antique plates. Well, maybe. There are a lot of faux-Speedsters out there. If AL owned the real thing we might not park it somewhere it could so easily pick up a gratuitous prank, like beside the wagon corral in a supermarket or bigbox parking lot. But..maybe. Need a more Porsche-tuned eye than our's to tell, I reckon.

1937 Ford Coupe

From Greg Phillips: "The car was purchased unrestored in the Dakotas. It has undergone a 2 year restoration and is now in Blue Hill, Maine. Interestingly, when this car was new the Deere Isle Bridge in the background was under construction. Both the car and bridge exist as they are today because of dedicated maintenance and repair
"Without design modifications the bridge would have fallen into Eggemoggin Reach long ago as its twin, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington, did shortly after its completion. Due to that tragedy the Deere Isle Bridge was retrofitted with steel panels it's entire length which reduces stress caused by frequent high winds.
"Without its new owner's attention this coupe would likely be around as just a static reminder of great design. As I latched onto my grilled salmon sandwich the coupe was just making its way to the crest of the bridge beyond. I can't help but think the proud owner knew, even at that distance, he held the attention of at least one of us. As the coupe reached the top I heard 3 faint horn blasts and off they went into the fog."

Whale Wagon rethought.

By a brilliant Mexican designer. Could that really have been a 1991 Buick Roadmaster? So cool.

1960 Chevrolet El Camino

AL has posted several of these sleek machines, including this cat's eye '59 in Reno. And this favorite which we bought for $3. Here's a '60 mislabeled as a '61 getting the beauty treatment. And how about this clean machine in Colorado Springs?  The black unit here is for sale at Goldenrod Garage in Freeport, Maine.
