1953 Mercury Monarch

From Alex Emond, in Saskatchewan: "Power to the Purple! A seriously audacious old school custom . Very California ... for Swift Current. The Merc now sits on a 1991 Cadillac and the seats from said Cadillac dictate the interior. The doors are a strange electric trip where the window goes down then the door retracts , like a pocket door, into the body. The ass end was extended 18 inches to accommodate the Continental tire . The owner did all the work and he told me that he has put some 20,00 kliks on it ... Sunday drives , runs to car shows etc. . Time to sell . It's a bit much for me but I have to admire the workmanship. Saskatchewan area code is 306 , if anybody wants an outrageous grocery getter"

AH: Alex posted another Merc for sale a while back. And this one was for sale in Maine back in August

Econoline Pickup, Vermont.

Reid Cunningham caught it in Londonderry,Vermont. "I have been wanting to catch a picture of this for the last month or so, but the timing kept being off. Too dark, on a call so couldn't stop, bit finally this weekend it worked out. I always think of the K-car as the platform that spawned everything, sedans, minivans, a pickup (Rampage) and so on. But in the 60's the Falcon produced as much variety. Starting as a economy car, it was two and four door sedans, and two and four door wagons, along with the Ranchero pickup. Convertibles and hard tops followed, and then the Econoline vans, utility and passenger, (passenger van sold as a Falcon van)and the Econoline Pickup. (I always think of the Econoline as the van but it was the forward control truck too). Finally, the Mustang was all Falcon underneath. Not bad for a car that for the first years was only offered with a lowly 6 cylinder and took years to even get a four speed transmission.  This looks like an early version but I couldn't get any closer on year."
AL: More Econoline pickups here.
One on the block a while back at BaT.But maybe our favorite is this one in Alpine, Texas.

1951 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery

We saw the car at Twisted Iron Customs in Edgecomb, Maine. Here's one we posted from Cali that got a makeover. And another, a '60, that Michael Moore spotted at Billetproof

Andrew M.K. Warren, "The Wheels Project"

In its way, the project is perhaps an hommage to William Eggleston.
More of Warren's work is up here.

1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

     from Jonathan Welsh:
"Chevy entered the personal-car fray in 1970 with the first-generation Monte Carlo. Stylist Dave Holls, who also led the '67 Camaro design team, penned this two-door's clean lines. I think he would have been at home at Ghia or Bertone.
"This Donnybrook Green example was parked just a few doors down in Montclair, N.J., yesterday. Green inside, too. Funny how that color scheme with a vinyl top, uncool for decades, looks pretty neat now.The fine, square-mesh grille and minimal hood spear peg this as a '70 model."

AL: Maybe the Riviera was ancestor of these cars?

Porsche Targa

From Jonathan Welsh: "This object of desire from my teen years cropped up in Upper Montclair, N.J. Pretty sure it's a 1980 model based on the black "Targa" roll bar and lack of side-mounted blinkers. A 3-liter flat-6-cylinder engine pushing 188 horsepower was blazing back then. Seems quaint now, compared with newer Porsches. Love the clean design, though."
