Raw & Lovely

I LOVED this honest and candid reveal of the beautiful Tori Spelling. I was there when she started 90210 and have loved her character's charm as much as her real person charm ever since. This memoir reveals her integrity. She didn't get this far because of her father, but because she earned it, on her own. Tori proves she's a humble human being whose insecurities and love of life are wrapped together in a life she views in such meaningful and admirable ways. Her Nanny was her "mom", and I could relate to that bond as my Nana helped raise me too, shining a light no one else could. Her relationship woes, her need to please, her trustworthiness as an actress are such incredibly rare traits in this world. Tori is so easy to love that it hurt to read how brutal people, some close to her, other strangers, could be toward her. Tori shares her intimate account from childhood through her early thirties with engaging intimacy, genuine openness, and a hilarious sense of humor. And I came away feeling like I spent the last few hours with a down-to-earth heartwarming friend. You are a real treasure, Tori.

INTERVENTION

A superb book that deals uncompromisingly with the very real issue of drug addiction and how it breaks the soul.My first book by Blackstock, I know I'm not done reading more of her works. She manages to provide an entertaining gripping suspense while dealing straightforward with the way drug abuse tears into the very heart of a family. After Barbara sends her drug-addicted daughter Emily across the country with a rehabilitation worker, she receives a shocking call from a detective. The rehab worker has been found dead in her car and Emily is shown fleeing the scene and wanted for murder.Told through the mom Barbara's viewpoint, you will hang on to this ride and root for her to find her daughter, to uncover the truth of what has happened while battling the worst dark corners of a drug-addled world ruled by deception. This story will keep you moving forward against all despair, never giving up in the fight against the darkest shadows of this world, always steered by hope and trusting in the Light.

Exciting Medical Thriller

The story moves along faster than a heartbeating pace. Never a dull second, always pushing forward in search of a cure for a group of young adults who have simultaneously contracted an unknown fatal illness. Ruff keeps us on our feet, and our feet pound the path alongside the characters as they work fervently and rationally to beat what is soon revealed to be an evil-run scheme. Engaging, thrilling, and realistically drawn.

A Bit Confusing

While the author invites intrigue with an unusual story, it was sometimes not clear what the characters were referring to as their thoughts vaguely referenced something. Speaking of thoughts, the POV view would shift between characters in the same chapter, which was rather jolting. My bigger complaints: Characters change too much and for no apparent reason. How did the villain get past the hotel cameras? Why was the main character, Tess, always blaming herself? I will say that the twist was surprising. The problem, though, is that she draws her characters with an unsure hand that we can't fully appreciate the story.

THE WIFE LIE

One of the most twisty and shocking suspense novels I've read.I first read Tuesday's Child and loved it so much that I read the whole thing out loud to my husband and me. So I had to pick up another book by Mora.I love the way the author invests in Penny's, the main character, thoughts and emotions. It feels very intimate, like you're hanging out with a good friend. And Mora explores the very precious nature of a mother-child relationship so well that you just want to hold this family in your arms. One problem: Penny should have not been okay with a couple situations she allows to happen--it isn't until the next chapter that she second-guesses her choices, but she should have recognized them as they happened, especially given the uncertainty of her situation.I had a theory as to what happened to her husband and why he had a first wife and never told his current wife. I was wrong, way wrong. In fact, I never once saw the twists (plural) coming. Mora's execution of the narrative is effective and satisfying, and the whole story is really the clincher. There is some language, but not for shock value, and outside of that, the book is clean. In fact, when you discover what Penny goes through, separate the truth from the lies, the way these horrible and shocking moments unravel, you can't help but admire Mora for her non-vengeance response. The ending of a novel is the real test if a book reaps its rewards, and Mora passes.Surprising Themes: Understanding and gratitude.

Incredibly Rich in Romance

Iten draws you in deeply into the arms of these couples with deep characters who are memorable and enticing. Each story is sweet and unique, all of them inviting, character-driven, and satisfying in every moment. She has an amazing knowledge of various job positions, portrayed realistically throughout each book. And her depiction of the landscapes are beautifully woven into the lives of the characters. It was wonderful to be a part of these intimate, clean romances.
