A Biker Saga 3, Fact and Folklore

Greetings!

Just wanted to take a moment and share my excitement, I've been receiving positive responses from Beta Readers for the last book of the trilogy. Looks like it's time for one final round of editing so I can add the cover, format the paperback version and release the book. It should be published within the next 7 to 10 days, baring any unforeseen issues!

Woot!

Next up; I'm working on a BBW Biker Romance and book three, the final book in the dark erotic romance The Brenna series, 'Brenna's Club' and a female version of 'Just Ride'...tentative title has yet to be decided on. Feel free to email with your suggestions :)

Bikers who REBOOT- Update: wks #4 & 5

The snow is gone, the sun is out and we have 60° weather. Spring is near and we are half-past ready to get outside and begin tilling the ground for our vegetable garden! Hopefully, this will be accomplished by the end of this weekend. Our compost bin is bulging with the remains of our last 5 weeks of Juicing, so nothing will be wasted. We will recycle the compost to fertilize the garden and as soon as I finish this update, I am gathering my gardening goodies to head outside and start potting seeds for my herb garden. I'll give them an early head-start indoors while we wait out the last few weeks of winter and then transplant them into the garden when we are sure the threat of cold weather has finally passed.

Gardening will save so much money on our Juicing journey! With over thirty bags of seeds to plant, we are excited and eager to start growing our own groceries! Here's a list of what we are planting this season, in no particular order;

Cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, celery, beefsteak tomato, cilantro, green onion, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, chives, basil, lavender, eggplant, red onion, kale, spinach, collard greens, lettuce, radish, okra, cucumber, zucchini, squash, corn, pumpkin, watermelon, cantaloupe, and asparagus!

(yes, I know what you are thinking, but corn on the cob is a must for BBQs and every once in a while, you can enjoy your favorites in moderation...it's not a death sentence when you choose to eat healthy!)

Food for thought: For 1/3 the cost of one watermelon, we bought a pack of seeds and can grow and eat as many as we want!

Juicing, salads, stir-fry and so much more await us come harvest time! I'm even looking into learning how to can. I've already bought a canning pot with the rack inside at a yard sale for 4.00, and now I'm looking for mason jars and the utensils to go with it! Yes, we are very serious. Not only about getting healthy, but about changing what we put into our bodies.

You would be amazed at how we have begun to look at processed foods! I don't even like thinking about sugars and starches anymore. I remember how they made me feel, all bloated, sluggish and always hungry shortly after eating them. Not anymore, now we look forward to a piece of fruit, it tastes like candy now. I put together a big salad last night with fresh homemade salsa for dressing, added a little chicken breast and we couldn't have enjoyed dinner more if we had went out to eat.

Very soon, the produce section of the grocery store can officially kiss my biker-backside! Don't get me wrong, it's not like they haven't been really good to us, but the fact remains, with the massive amount of vegetables it takes to juice, saving 5.00 or 10.00 on a case here and there is helpful, but still very costly! And we aren't planning on stopping at growing a garden either, oh-hell-no! We've been watching videos in the last two weeks on how to make your own cheeses. Our first attempt was ricotta, which came out well. Our next attempt will be mozzarella! You should check out the videos on YouTube, you'll be astounded at how simple it is!

Plus, we are planning to build a chicken coup and begin producing our own fresh eggs again, too. I'm truly excited about this, as I have missed having chickens and really enjoy the act of raising them from chicks to hens. Yep, I'm a country-girl at heart....always will be!

Got to head outside now, time to play in the soil and bask in the sun, but before I go, let me encourage you to look into changing the way you feed your body. You'll feel so much better, both inside and out! Energy abounds!

I'll keep ya posted!

(P.S. If you haven't read the previous updates, visit the site and start at the beginning of our journey. We are just getting started!)

Bikers.....Read?

You would not believe some of the remarks I have dealt with of late. Every time I mention I write for fiction for bikers, I hear something akin to the following statements:

1. 'Bikers don't read, so who is your target audience?'

2. 'I don't think there is that many bikers, and I doubt that they read books.'

3. 'Bikers don't care about books'

(Just writing this, my blood pressure is up!)

Yes, I've lost it a couple of times. I am offended and insulted by such remarks. As I'm sure you are too. My average response to such blatant idiocy goes something like this:

"Not only do bikers number into the high millions in the US, we are global. The world at large is covered with people who ride. We are mothers, fathers, business owners, tax payers, we have careers, we are neighbors, we are home-owners, community supporters, child advocates, and so very much more! Stop profiling every time you see or think 'biker' and take a moment to educate yourself. We choose a life of freedom from the very constraints which you allow to define you, and believe it or not, some of us even write!

Author Alert! Check this out

To my author friends.

FYI: There is a new book site starting up! I have been emailing with admin and they agreed to add a new genre for biker books! It is called 'Biker Life' and will eventually have a variety of indie biker books and authors to choose from.

They are taking new authors and their books now, and are looking for suggestions for new genres!

While they are in start-up mode listing your books is absolutely FREE!

After they are established, they have extremely reasonable prices, but why not get in on the ground floor now!
Here is their website if you want to check them out now or in the future! http://www.indiebookdiscovery.com/

Bikers who REBOOT! Week 3 Update

Week 3: UPDATE
As stated in the last update, after Juicing only for two weeks, we realized the cost for the entire family to continue was simply astronomical, so we got together and chose to readjust our regimen. This is what we decided.
First, we took a short break and enjoyed a night out for a family dinner on Valentines day. We enjoyed some grilled and baked seafood, no starches, (except we all indulged in the cheddar biscuits as a treat) and the next day we began a different two week regimen.

Week 1:
2 boiled eggs and a banana or an orange for breakfast
Green Juice for lunch
Baked/Grilled Fish with sliced tomatoes & cucumbers or a salad for dinner
Nuts/Fruits/Fresh Vegetables for the occasional snack
(NOTE: The snacks were necessary, as we found that hunger had returned quickly after we stopped the all day juicing. Our guess is had we been able to do the entire 30 days, this may not have been the case....but then again, that's how we learn!
Week 2:
The same menu, except we alternate between fish and chicken breast to add variety, and a couple of times we added a light sprinkling of shredded cheddar cheese to the boiled egg halves.
This worked well, we are all still dropping pounds, but our energy level decreased after the all day juicing stopped. However, the cost of juicing is still an issue, so we decided to combat that head-on, by ordering 25 heirloom vegetable seed packets online from
mypatriotsupply.com for our spring garden. (They are very reasonable in their pricing and shipping charges, I checked several sites before choosing) After we ordered the seeds, we borrowed a tiller to prepare the ground while we waited for them to arrive. Unfortunately, before we could turn the soil, 'Old Man Winter' arrived throwing a snow tantrum, so tilling was put on hold.
The seeds arrived in the mail today! And now that the snow is gone...it will be raining all week. So we are off to get some potting soil and will begin germinating our seeds indoors, while winter lingers, and plant the seedlings in the garden once spring finally arrives, along with the rest of the seeds. This will offer us an early harvest and put us ahead of the game!
For now, until the garden is ready for harvest, we will Green Juice as much as we can afford and eat light when we have to, for the next few months. Once we are producing our own vegetables we plan to do a complete 30 day detox...60 days is also being discussed, we will play it by ear and see where it takes us.
We all still feel better than we did before we started, and the little aches and pains have diminished. We are still doing light exercise indoors, and can't wait for the weather to clear so we can take it outside again. We have decided to plant hedges around the property this spring, so this will be great exercise for us, while upping the property value at the same time! All three of us continue on, determined to make this thing work. Sometimes life just gets in the way and you just have to readjust! Plus, our daughter will be moving back home next month and has decided to join us in our Juicing adventure! Yep...that garden will save us all!

I'll keep ya posted!

Update: Bikers who REBOOT wk-2

UPDATE:

Today is day 11 on our Reboot!

What an insightful adventure, things are changing around here!

All three of us are still losing pounds and gaining energy! I've noticed my fingernails are growing faster and look much whiter than before, like a 'French Manicure'. Our eyes are brighter, daily 'aches and pains' have lessened..and some have already disappeared!. Even my hair seems healthier! Although I am not weighing myself, I know I am losing weight. My bra and panties fit differently and the jeans I couldn't zip up two weeks ago, not only fit now, but are comfortable to wear!

Two days ago, I ran into a friend I haven't seen since December, her first response when I walked through the door? ..."Wow...you've lost a lot of weight!" ....and so there it is, sweet validation!

I will admit, the first two days were kinda 'iffy' for me...Nobody really enjoyed the taste of the Green Juice too much. Not that it tastes 'awful' mind you, it just tastes a lot different from what we normally put into our mouths. It takes a minute, give it time. Give your body a chance to show you what you are doing will pay off, in spades!

The first couple of days are the hardest...stay strong!

We went through a day of nausua on day two, and that was the worst day for all of us. On day three I wasn't sure I was going to be able to do this...but I pushed myself through and by day four all of a sudden it seemed natural. From then on, I looked forward to my Juice! By day five we were beginning to feel much better, physically and mentally. Everyday now we walk. We are up to two or three 15-20 minute walks a day now.

I know it sounds strange....but we have not been hungry, at all. In ten days of nothing solid to eat, just Juicing, we have not been hungry! No hunger pains, no feeling like we are starving before our next meal could get here!

Can you imagine? I couldn't, I didn't believe it possible. Now...we'll....I do believe....in Juicing!

This is not a cheap endeavor, fruits and vegetables are expensive, especially in the amounts that it takes to juice. However, if you can shop for sales, sweet talk your produce people and buy in large quantities (by the case) it is very helpful. We have now spent 350.00 for two weeks worth of juicing! No way we can keep that up for two months.....So, this week, we are buying vegetable seeds and will begin some indoor germinating. By the time winter is over, we will have an early start on a vegetable garden and cut the cost out completely!

For the moment, to keep the cost down and to not get 'bored' we have decided to back it down to two juices a day. In the morning we have a vegetable medly Juice (like a homemade V-8) and a Joe Cross Mean Green Juice for lunch. We have decided to incorporate homemade vegetable soup/broth for dinner, and every few days we will have baked fish. We have also added nuts to our regimine, and are discussing rotating the fish with a salad the following week.

Once our garden begins to produce, we will go back to a full Reboot!

We really want to do this for a 60 day regimen. We are not giving up, we are regrouping due to cost. I expect juicing will be a part of our lives from here on out. The health benefits cannot be ignored! We are feeling way too good to quit...all three of us...we just need to 'grow our own' to reach our goal of a 60 day Reboot.

Either way, since we have changed the way we consume our nutrition, it's a win-win no matter how you look at it! Juicing works...and it works fast! I don't ever want to live without it again!

Bikers who REBOOT!

A couple of weeks ago, the three of us (me, spouse & son) came across a documentary by Joe Cross, called 'Fat, sick and nearly dead', neither of us had ever heard of it, but it sounded interesting so we sat down and watched it together. Then we watched part two, followed by everything we could find on the subject.

Wow! Life changing stuff, we were stoked to say the least. We talked about it, googled it, researched it and talked about it some more, for about a week. With the three of us in agreement that this was a good thing with exceptional benefits, I bought a juicer. That week we cut down on everything, (cigarettes, caffein, alcohol, sweets...everything!) and ate only light meals in an attempt to prepare ourselves in effort to cut down on withdrawels and side effects. Okay, I'm the only one of the three who didn't quit smoking...but I did cut them in half and give up everything else! (Hi! My name is Pamela and I am a smoke-a-holic!)

Personally my second biggest fear was not having my coffee, (Hi! my name is Pamela and I'm a coffeeholic!) so I bought a box of decaffinated Green Tea for emergencies. (today I discovered I like it with lemon!) Anyway...Last weekend I went to town and sweet talked the prodruce guy (poor guy never knew what hit him) and walked away with a case of Kale (big discount) and a buggy overflowing with fresh fruits and vegetables. Next, I headed over to the big grocery store and bought every fruit and vegetable they had on sale, too.

Unfortunately, it happened to be Superbowl Sunday, and you know what that means...wings, dips, pizza, salty snack foods, deserts and the main event... alcohol! (we didn't take that into consideration ahead of time...duh!) So there we were, planning to start our Reboot-Detox-Juice Fest on Monday morning and are suddenly faced with our first real challenge. To gorge or not to gorge? I mean really...it's the Superbowl...it's tradition!

To be honest, we were so excited to get started, having already prepared ourselves, we just shrugged it off and I made vegetable trays, avacado dips and salsa. Instead of chips, I sliced up zuchinni and squash rounds and we used those instead. We snacked and watched the game without issue, albeit sober...who'da thunk it was possible?

On Monday morning, we got up early, prepared our juice and it was on! On Friday, day five my son announced that he had been weighing himself at work and already he had lost 10 lbs!...(honey and I didn't weigh ourselves first....duh...again)... But even though the two of us will never know exactly what our own weight loss was this first week, we can both tell we have lost a few pounds, and that's good enough for me!

Don't misunderstand, we did not embark on this adventure solely for weight loss, although all three of us need to shed some pounds, we are doing the reboot for health reasons. It's like a physical and mental 'do-over', it allows you to get back to square one and give your body a break from all the toxins we throw down our neck without thinking. It allows your system to remember what it's like to feel good again and your mind to remember what real, natural food can do for you.

Five days in, we not only feel good about ourselves, we feel physically better! And we have started to excercise...(okay, we are walking twice a day, but one has to start somewhere)...Anyway, we have spent alot of time researching all of the nutrition facts on what we place in the juicer and have a greater appreciation for what we are consuming. It's an amazing journey and I encourage you to look into it. I'll keep you posted with a weekly update.
