Bikers.....Read?

You would not believe some of the remarks I have dealt with of late. Every time I mention I write for fiction for bikers, I hear something akin to the following statements:


1. 'Bikers don't read, so who is your target audience?'

2. 'I don't think there is that many bikers, and I doubt that they read books.'

3. 'Bikers don't care about books'


(Just writing this, my blood pressure is up!)


Yes, I've lost it a couple of times. I am offended and insulted by such remarks. As I'm sure you are too. My average response to such blatant idiocy goes something like this:


"Not only do bikers number into the high millions in the US, we are global. The world at large is covered with people who ride. We are mothers, fathers, business owners, tax payers, we have careers, we are neighbors, we are home-owners, community supporters, child advocates, and so very much more! Stop profiling every time you see or think 'biker' and take a moment to educate yourself. We choose a life of freedom from the very constraints which you allow to define you, and believe it or not, some of us even write!
