MediocreMan Chats with ChatGPT

Below is the “chat” I had with ChatGPT about replacing me. Rather about writing a blog post for me. By the way (not to spoil anything), the conversations are exactly as ChatGPT responded. I only added some formatting to set off the conversation from the posts ChatGPT generated.

Write a blog post about AI in the style of the author of Mediocreman.com.

ChatGPT Cannot Replace Me

Thankfully, ChatGPT will not replace me.

If you have not yet heard of ChatGPT, you probably should be checking it out. After all, it might replace you. Or more probably, it might help you do your job better. At the very least, you should check it out to see if you can have some interesting conversations with it. Rather, with AI, Artificial Intelligence.

No. I am not going to tell you that AI will rule the world some day. It might take a few jobs, maybe even quite a few jobs. But if we ca...

Poetic Expectations

Apparently, I need to give poems with my awards. Who knew?

Expectations are strange. Or maybe not so strange. All I know is that if I do something a time or two, people expect it to happen all the time. I guess it makes some sense. I think.

It is graduation season and we had our annual Senior Awards night a couple weeks ago. It is a night when the seniors get all kinds of awards. Scholarships, awards from the Marines and other armed forces, athletic awards, and of course, awards from t...

What Is an Outstanding Student?

What is an outstanding student?
I’d really like to know.

Is it the one who gives a glimpse
Of brilliance now and then?
Is it the one who shines so bright
Then fades and goes quite dim?
Is it the one who does just enough
To earn the coveted grade?
Or is it the one who’s happy with
Whatever has been made?

I think the one who shines each day
Who is steady and is true
The one who works and works and works
To learn the things to do
The one who strives and maybe struggles
To be the best of the be...

The Report Has Been Greatly Exaggerated

The report of my demise, I mean my retirement, has been greatly exaggerated.

I know it is not a direct quote, but I like the notion of what Mark Twain supposedly said. And I think it safe to say that any report at this time of my death or retirement has also been greatly exaggerated. I am not retiring as a teacher or coach. (Or writer.)

I heard of my impending retirement at the end of the current school year when a student-athlete asked me about it at track and field practice a few weeks ago...

The Ants Go Marching…

Ants can be a nuisance, but even so, you have to admire them. They just keep marching along.

We do not have an ant problem, but we do get them in the house every spring. They come in and try to take over the place, but I just keep squashing them. Ant. Squash. Ant. Squash. A bunch of ants. Squash, squash… Squash. Sorry about that. I had to take time to squash another ant.

The thing about ants is that they are great. As long as they stay outside. Out there, I leave them alone. But w...

I Almost Hit a Bald Eagle

I almost hit a bald eagle on the way to work the other day. I think we both scared each other.

I have never had a need for a dash cam until the other day. I was almost to work, when I had to slam on the brakes. Screech! A bald eagle had just swooped down from above and grabbed something in front of me. It was pulling out of its attack run when I slammed on the brakes. It flew right in front of my windshield. I must have scared it as much as it scared me because it dropped whatever it had...

Sometimes I Make Myself Laugh

…abrupt endings. (Look at that. An ending and a serialization with just two words. And a lead in to this week’s post. Kinda sorta.)

There are times when my writing makes me laugh. Not very often, but it does happen.

I cannot tell a joke to save my life. And if you have read about that before, you know that I can either tell the setup to the joke or the punch line. But never the twain shall meet. Rather, rarely, the twain shall meet. Still, I like to give it a shot every now and then. ...

Abrupt Endings

Some people are great writers with beginnings, middles, and endings to all their writing. Some of us are not such great writers. Some of us have suspect openings, middling middles, and abrupt endings.

There are times when I have abrupt endings to my blog posts. I do not mean to have them. I just do. Things are going along just great, when “BAM!” the end just comes. “Screech!” the brakes are applied and you can smell the burnt rubber on the road. Ugh. I hate that. Both the smell and the...

Tune in Next Time…

“Tune in next time for our next exciting adventure of…”

I used to love to watch Saturday morning cartoons. We would get up and turn on the TV and just spend time laughing at Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. We would wonder if Mighty Mouse would indeed save the day. We just knew that Boris and Natasha would never get the best of Rocky and Bullwinkle. Ah, those were the days.

The ruse that many of our favorite shows used at the end of their shows was a cliffhanger. Will whoever the hero was save w...
