3 Tips for Staying Positive During Negative Times
Staying positive and at peace with all the negativity swirling around today can be a challenge. Making self-care a top priority is the key, but it’s also a tremendous act of courage.
I’ve been feeling this vibe in big ways lately, especially now that self-care these days seems to include regularly shielding ourselves from negative news and hateful posts on social media.
The negativity that seems to be flying around us all the time can be hard to take. Political divisiveness, anger, and frustration are running rampant. It can be difficult to stay positive and joyful when you feel like bad vibes are swallowing you up. Not to mention the way you may be feeling about some of what’s going on in the world right now. There is certainly much to be disheartened by, and even pissed off.
If you’re a sensitive person like I am, you have to work a little harder to protect yourself from being pulled under by all the negative news and bad energy. But, when you create a strategy plan for radical self-care in this area and then stick to it, it can make a massive difference when it comes to feeling good and staying positive.
This doesn’t mean ignoring the issues that are important to you (we can’t simply pretend they don’t exist); it just means acknowledging them in more positive and productive ways, such as volunteering or writing letters to your elected representatives.
If you’re ready to create your own radical self care plan for staying positive during these challenging times, here are three suggestions for simple and effective strategies I’ve implemented that work pretty well.
First, spend a little time cleaning up your social media (and then spend a little less time on it all together). You don’t necessarily have to delete people who post about politics or sad animal stories, you can simply unfollow them so they don’t appear in your feeds. Then follow a few pages with positive posts and uplifting articles so you see more good stuff when scrolling.
Next, be deliberate about spending more time in nature. Seriously. It may sound cliché, but this really works. We’re only beginning to understand what all this electronic overwhelm is doing to our mental health. It’s easy to spend all day inside with our eyes on screens – phones, laptops, television sets – and not ever on actual, real life beauty. I don’t know about you, but my soul craves it. I’ve made an effort this year to greatly reduce my screen time and GO OUTSIDE. My level of peace has risen greatly since becoming much more mindful about this.
Finally, be fierce about fostering more real, in-person connection with people who lift you up. Connection on social media can be deceptive. It’s not real. Our minds and spirits need authentic, face-to-face connection with like-minded souls in order to thrive. At the same time, limit time and connection with those who criticize, make you feel crappy, or are just generally negative. You don’t have the time or energy for it.
If you’ve got more ideas for creating negativity shields and boosting positivity in today’s climate, please share them with everyone below in the comments.
Stay strong, stick to your boundaries, be a passionate seeker of joyful things, and keep a positive mindset. Don’t let other people’s negativity squash your peace.
Be willing to fight for your light.
Love,
Kristi xo

7 Signs Your Inner Critic Has Taken Your Goals Hostage
By Guest Author, Melanie Benson, founder of MoneyDNA Mastery
Most of entrepreneurs have a voice in their head that generates doubt and fear. Actually, almost everyone I know has had these kinds of thoughts at some point…
“What if this doesn’t work?”
“Am I really capable of pulling this off?”
“Holy crap, is anyone really going to pay me THAT MUCH?”
“What’s wrong with me? That was a stupid mistake to make!”
The inner critic likes to nag at us and cast doubt over our goals and dreams. As normal as doubts and fears are, if your mind surfaces fear, doubt and worry over and over again and it begins to sabotage your ability to grow your business. That’s when your inner critic has taken you hostage.
Obviously, if you are in business for yourself, you can’t afford to have your inner critic take the lead when it comes to making decisions. Not only will that critical inner voice hold you back, it erodes your confidence and courage to pursue your dreams.
Here are seven signs that your inner critic has moved in to your mind and has taken over:
You talk yourself out of taking big risks with thoughts like, with “What makes you think you can do that?”
The fear of “what people will think” keeps you from taking action.
Because you’ve made mistakes before, you’ll do whatever you can to avoid making one again.
Your self-talk is often full of negative, critical thoughts that you would never say to your best friend.
You’ve caught yourself bad-mouthing someone else who is more successful, perhaps judging or criticizing their approach.
When something goes wrong, you relentlessly beat yourself up and blame yourself for not doing a better job.
Always focused on your growing list of what you didn’t accomplish (instead of what you did), you often feel overwhelmed and stressed out.
The inner critic is often hard to detect. Many who struggle with this type of inner harshness were trained by a parent, authority figure or close friend to be critical. But left untamed, this type of self-talk can cause you depression, not to mention a pile of unrealized dreams.
To turn your thoughts around and start creating an internal “thrive” program, try this:
Recognize when your inner critic has been unleashed.
Stop immediately. Literally SNAP OUT OF IT.
Give yourself a gentle loving reminder to bring yourself back into a neutral or positive mindset.
If your inner critic rules your mind more often than you’d like, be sure to enroll now in my free video series, How to Upgrade Your MoneyDNA to Super Charge Results.
Inside I’ll help you identify where your inner critic came from — and how to recode your internal success program so that doubts, fears and worries are replaced automatically with a powerful success program designed for higher levels of success.

Can Fashion Boost Your Positive Energy?
Can fashion boost your positive energy? Turns out taking that extra five minutes to get ready in the morning could make a huge difference in the level of energy, confidence, and happiness you feel throughout your day. There are numerous studies that reveal what we wear has more to do with how we feel than we might think. In a nutshell, having style can be good for your health and your outlook.
Personally, I’ve had a love for fashion as long as I can remember, and a strong belief that personal style can enhance our joy and wellness. When I was 12, I would buy issues of Vogue with my allowance and hide away in my room examining every page and reading every article. Still reading it more than 30 years later, and had the amazing opportunity to speak at their 2011 Fashion’s Night Out event in Los Angeles along side (then) Mayor Villaraigosa.
Now, you can even find fashion designed specifically to have a positive impact on your quality of life. Around the time of my book launch, I received the opportunity to try out the new (gorgeous!) Horizon bracelet and Sleep bracelet from watchmaker Philip Stein (their watches are some of Oprah’s favorites). Each bracelet features a Natural Frequency Disc that’s said to reduce stress, increase focus, and improve overall wellbeing. This fascinating video on their website explains the technology.
First, I tried the Horizon bracelet. I honestly forgot I had it on, as I was pretty busy on the day I first wore it. Until, I started getting compliments on it from nearly everyone I came in contact with! I wasn’t sure if the great energy I felt that day actually came directly from the bracelet itself, or from all the compliments (plus, I felt particularly cute that day with my new fall outfit), so I decided to wear it every day for an entire week. Even on the quieter days when I was writing or working on creative projects, I seemed to have elevated energy. Plus, to be honest, it felt nice to look down and see something beautiful on my wrist, so it was a win-win.
Next, I did the same with the Sleep bracelet, wearing it every night for a week. I must admit, I’m a person who doesn’t really like to have anything more than a tee shirt on when I’m sleeping, but for better sleep, I’ll try almost anything. I did seem to sleep peacefully all week — which is somewhat unusual for me (I normally have at least one night a week of feeling like this dog). And, I can honestly say that wearing it didn’t bother me at all.
So, if you’re looking to add something new to your accessories wardrobe that might contribute to your life in new ways, Philip Stein’s bracelets are a great choice.
For more on how fashion can affect your happiness and wellbeing, you can check out this article in Readers Digest, 10 Unexpected Ways Your Clothes Can Change Your Mood.
Wishing you all a beautiful (and stylish!) fall! xo
Special thanks to Philip Stein for the opportunity to try out and write about their beautiful products.

Love Yourself More
Love yourself MORE.
Love yourself more than any job.
Love yourself more than anything and everything that drains you. Walk away. Love yourself more.
Love yourself more than any romantic partner, so you can be at your best for that amazing person person who deserves the best version of you. Or, so you can be strong enough to let go – no matter how fun or charismatic – of any person who would dare disrespect you or treat you as anything less than the beautiful soul that you are. Love yourself more.
Love yourself more than anything you may find yourself addicted to. Say to yourself, “I love myself more than I love THIS.” Let go. Do whatever it takes to heal. Whatever it takes. Love yourself more.
Love yourself more than anyone who has ever broken your heart. Remember that you are worthy of great love, and that some people are better loved from a distance.
Breathe. Move forward. Center your life around kindness. Create joy every day. Laugh more. Take responsibility for your happiness. Love yourself MORE.
xo Love,
Kristi
