The Importance of Soaking Grains, Nuts, Seeds and Beans

When I was recovering my gut health, I noticed a big difference in how I felt when I soaked my grains, nuts, seeds and beans before preparing them. Where I’d once feel sick and bloated after eating, soaking brought great relief and I felt much better.

Soaking these foods is a traditional preparation technique that our ancestors have done for hundreds of years. They knew the importance of soaking grains as well as nuts, seeds and beans. Soaking removes the phytic acid, an anti-nutrient that ma...

Raw Vegan Caramel

With all the summer fairs, we see candy and caramel apples. I love seeing them because they remind me of being a kid again…but they are not the best choice for desserts — full of sugar and other chemical additives. Here is a raw vegan caramel recipe that you can use to dip apples or coat them for caramel apples.

If you coat them, you can roll them in finely chopped almonds or my favorite, put a layer of pumpkin seed butter on the apple and then add the layer of caramel. This trick will balanc...

Maya’s Finnish Sourdough Rye Bread

Several years ago I traveled with Louise to Scotland for a Hay House I Can Do It event. We were excited because since Wayne Dyer was speaking there as well, we’d get to see Maya Labos. Maya has been Wayne’s agent and right hand for more than thirty years. Maya is from Finland. She’s beautiful, funny, full of life and spitfire. She’ll tell it like it is, and even if it’s brutally honest, you’ll love her for it. You can always count on Maya for a madcap story and a lot of laughs!

In Scotland, M...

Star Anise: For UTIs, Flu, Digestion and Viral Infections

Two years ago, my client, Sarah, called me in a panic because she was experiencing the symptoms of a urinary tract infection (UTI) and she didn’t know what to do. It was late, the stores were closed and she didn’t have any cranberry juice in the house. I suggested she get some apple cider vinegar (1 to 2 tablespoons per 8 ounce glass of water) and either add 1 teaspoon baking soda or have that in a separate glass of water. She added it all into one glass, added a little lemon and honey and dr...

Schisandra Berry: Stress-Busting Superfood

My client, Carrie, was having a challenge sleeping at night and experienced symptoms of frequent urination. Her energy was low and she felt nervous a lot. I suggested she try schisandra berry tea. Schisandra berries are called five flavored berry because they have all 5 flavors in Chinese medicine (sweet, sour, salty, bitter and pungent), making them a very balanced medicinal herb.

Because of their wide-ranging benefits, schisandra berries are one of the 50 fundamental Chinese herbs. Here’s w...

Hot off the presses: Grain-Free, Nut-Free, Healthy Pancakes (Vegan Option too!)

I have deemed the last couple of days as “sleep as long as you want” days. That is the first order of celebration after turning in my second book in one year. And it gave me a chance to rest my word-addled brain :)

Pancakes with ForkFor me, there are two food items that feel festive: ice cream and pancakes. Whenever one of my clients come...

Louise Hay’s Favorite Bone Broth Recipe

Louise’s Favorite Bone Broth Recipe (or Vegetable Broth)

This recipe and process can be used for making any meat, poultry or fish broth or you can collect vegetables and just make veggie stock. If you make the meat and poultry broths with vegetables, you will get a flavored broth. If you leave the vegetables out and focus only on bones, you will have a neutral broth.

Practicing zero waste … beautifully
Louise is brilliant in the kitchen. She has a gift in the kitchen and in life, for making t...

Is Coffee Good for You?

Is coffee good for you or bad for you? What’s the story? The debate has persisted for years all over the internet with health experts and grandmothers alike weighing in. And, everyone is on a different side of the fence.

Let’s Look a Bit at Coffee…

My opinion is that like all things, this is highly personal and depends on your own body.

Genetics

First of all, some people have a genetic variance on a few genes that make them slow metabolizers of caffeine. For these folks, coffee, alcohol and s...
