Fast Thermos Soup

I first started cooking for my health when I was working 12-hour days in my corporate job. While I tended to like cooking, I felt that there was no way I had time for it. So over the years, I had given up on cooking and relied on quick convenience foods. Fortunately, I had a couple of wonderful health practitioners help me ease my way back into the kitchen with fast, healthy recipes.

Here’s one for thermos soup that many of you asked about. This recipe is from a doctor who aided my recovery....

Boost Your Immunity with Juniper Berries This Season

I’m about to travel again for the holidays. At this time of year, people on flights are usually coughing, sniffling and sneezing. Messages are everywhere that it’s “cold and flu season.” I don’t think of it that way. I think of it as “build your immunity season.” Years ago, I became aware that if I worried about getting a cold, I’d be afraid every time someone next to me coughed or sneezed. The worry only created stress and as we all know, stress is the real root cause behind illness and dis-...

10-Day Sugar Detox

I received3 e-mails over the weekend that went something like this:

“I ate too much of my kids’ Halloween candy and now I don’t feel well. Plus, I have a lot of sugar cravings now. How can I detox the sugar from my body?”

Here we are…many of us in the middle of the fall season, with our clocks turned back and less daylight. This already reduces the amount of serotonin (happiness, calm hormone) in our brains. A lack of serotonin can sometimes create cravings for sugary carbs because it’s the s...

Healing Elixirs: Bone Broth & Vegetable Stock

These two simple liquids have helped me recover my health more than almost anything else. Healing Elixir Vegetable Stock

The purple liquid above is a vegan Healing Elixir Vegetable Stock (Vegan Veggie Broth Recipe). I used this in the early stages of my recovery when all of my digestive organs were taxed and needed to be brought back to health. After simmering vegetables for an hour, the nutrients are now in broth, making them easy to digest. I used it as a way to get vitamins and minerals...

Matching Symptoms to the Root Cause

Someone recently asked me how to identify the root cause of a health condition or how do you go aboutmatching symptoms to the root cause. This is a very good and very complicated question. Many times, there are layers uponlayers to a health issue.

However, having immersed myself in Native American medicine, I like to look at the following things:

Diet – how are you nourishing yourself? Life – what is the overall quality or theme of your life right now? Lifestyle – how do you feel about y...

Horseradish for Congestion and Bronchitis

My client, Jamie, was experiencing a very bad cold and became concerned that it would move into bronchitis, as it had so many years in the past. After we talked about her health, I decided to go into my kitchen (my own personal pharmacy!) and craft a recipe that would support her in healing.

Since she was also working on gut health, I decided to get a little creative and see what happened. The result was actually quite tasty and packed with all kinds of health benefits, including horseradish,...

Cinnamon, nutmeg and rosemary make for some very good cookies. Packed with health benefits, these cookies taste wonderful and a little like toffee cookies. Your Roundup of Healthy Herbs and Spices… Cinnamon

An anti-inflammatory, cinnamon helps promote healthy bacteria in your gut (those good guys that help you digest and assimilate your food) and will keep your blood sugar stable (which helps give you willpower!). It can also help with heart health and can prevent diabetes.

Medical vs Natural Approaches to Health

“You will never recover your health or your ability to digest unless you removeyour gallbladder.”

My doctor told me this with great certainty after diagnosing me will gallbladder disease more than 15 years ago. At this point, I had to decide what to do and I was torn.

Many of you wrote to ask me how to decide between mainstream medical approaches to health (medications, surgery, etc.) vs. natural approaches to health. You have also asked about metaphysical ideas about health.

What Did I Do to...

Tips for Energetically Sensitive People

It took me a long time to realize how energetically sensitive I was. Years ago, I moved from the mountains of rural New Hampshire to Los Angeles, California to collaborate with a team of health experts. I had never lived in LA before, so I was excited to explore a new area. However, I began to notice that my energy was off. I could sense and feel things that were odd to me.

One day, I was driving from Los Angeles to Carlsbad, CA to visit Hay House Publishing and I noticed that at a certain po...

Burdock Root for Stress and Cravings

Early on in my recovery, my health practitioner wanted me to work on strengthening my blood and constitution to build my energy. If you think about building energy and strength in the body, you are encouraging every system in the body to become stronger from the cellular level to the more subtle, fluctuating systems in the body, like the blood sugar levels. When you are grounding and stabilizing the body, you are also encouraging stable blood sugar levels.

Stable blood sugar levels means redu...
