Erdogan’s YES Wins Turkish Constitutional Referendum: Don’t Believe The MSM Spin!

On April 16th, the Turkish people voted in favour of insituting Constitutional Reforms by a very narrow margin. Despite the mainstream media continually trying to paint Turkish President Erdogan as a potential dictator, a close look at the nature of the reforms and the challenging situations Turkey faces in the coming years doesn’t bear this out. I think this is a modest example of the upsurge in nationalism and the hope is to Make Turkey Great Again. If this means more stability in the troubled Middle East, that’s fine by me!

MOAB Strike In Afghanistan: A Move Ahead In Trump’s 4D Snakes And Ladders

After a tense week in geopolitical terms, following the US airstrike in Syria and the arrival of US battleships off the coast of North Korea, the Trump ADministration welcomed in the Easter holidays by dropping an MOAB, a Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb, colloquially known as the Mother Of All Bombs, on ISIS facilities in Afghanistan. Internet wild as usual with many fearing the end of the world and others banging the American military drum. I think this strike was a sensible move, which combined decisiveness and a show of strength, and is designed to take out the bad guys, who at this moment are ISIS. President Trump is doing well in delegating this kind of decision to his military commanders, who I expect to get rid of the Islamic State before the end of the year.

Storm In A Syrian Teacup: Tillerson, McMaster And Haley Give Nothing Away About Possible Conflict Escalation

Nikki Haley (US Ambassador to the UN), H.R. McMaster (National Security Advisor) and Rex Tillerson (Secretary of State) were interviewed separately on three different mainstream TV channels. Most media have complained that the Trump Adminstration seems to have no clear policy on Syria whilst others either worry or rub their hands in glee (depending on the political position) at the prospect of increased US involvement in the region. However, I see the message is clear: they want to defeat ISIS and then would like to see Al-Assad removed by democratic means. The overall effect of the missile attack has had the effect of putting pressure on Russia in the week before Rex Tillerson makes his visit to Moscow.

Why It’s So Easy To Be Wrong About Bashar Al-Assad And Syria

Given the continuous barrage from political leaders and the mainstream media that the logic behind the Syrian Conflict is Bashar Al-Assad against the moderate rebels with a bit ISIS thrown in, it’s very easy to think that there are two sides to the dispute. However, the so-called moderate, who are supported by most Western regimes as well as Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, are anything but moderate. They are extreme Wahhabi fundamentalist terrorists and, as part of the worldwide Al Quaeda network, are indistinguishable from ISIS. President Bashar Al-Assad and his legitimate Syrian government deserve full support from democratic governments around the worlds. I sincerely hope Donald Trump turns his foreign policy around as soon as possible.

Syrian 7-Year-Old Bana Alabed: A Legitimate Voice Or Just More Fake News?

Bana Alabed is a 7-year-old Syrian girl who came to the public’s attention in September 2016 tweeting from an account run by her mother about the Putin-Al Assad offensive on Aleppo. She was in the news again this week after she appeared on CNN denouncing the chemical weapons attack on Idlib and later tweeting in support of Donald Trump’s cruise missile attack on the Syrian airbase. She may appear to be fake news or propaganda but despite not agreeing with her family’s position I think she is a legitimate voice regarding opinion on the the conflict.

US Airstrike Against Syrian Airfield: Trump’s First Major Mistake?

Yesterday’s US airstrike against a Syrian airbase could well be President Trump’s first major mistake. He seems to have been pushed by hawkish NeoCons in his administration, the action is being applauded by various players in the region, such as Israel, Saudi Arabia and Turkey as well as establishment NeoLiberals. Both Russia and Syria reject the reasons for the attack as pure invention and the effect on relations could well make the fight against ISIS more difficult. All isn’t lost yet, and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will be in Moscow for talks next week, so let’s keep our fingers crossed.
