Those hesitations, those ill-defined cravings of an inexperienced soul are quite annoying, along with the boy’s window-shopping for girls to fall in love with. But then I am getting it: the story that we imagine beforehand, same as the story we paint ...more

Exposed by Jean-Philippe Blondel
"Fabulous, quick novel, out this June. It is an examination of aging and contemporary art - a high school english teacher approaching 60 is approached by one of his former students, now a famous painter, to pose for a sequence of paintings. As the..." Read more of this review »

More of Sorin's books…

“I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.”
Henry David Thoreau, Walden: Or, Life in the Woods

“The wish to disappear sends many travelers away. If you are thoroughly sick of being kept waiting at home or at work, travel is perfect: let other people wait for a change. Travel is a sort of revenge for having been put on hold, or having to leave messages on answering machines, not knowing your party's extension, being kept waiting all your working life - the homebound writer's irritants. But also being kept waiting is the human conditon.”
Paul Theroux, Dark Star Safari: Overland from Cairo to Cape Town

“Never trust a man who reads only one book.”
Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Purity of Blood

“Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead.”
Charles Bukowski

“For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.”
Charles Bukowski
