"I’m
going to tell you, you know,“ Sehrys promised, meeting his eyes for as
long as he dared. “I’m going to tell you everything, just as soon as we
cross. But you need to stay awake, Brieden.”“I’m
awake,” Brieden said steadily. He was now grasping Sehrys’s hand just as
hard as Sehrys was clutching his.“Who
are you, Sehrys?""You
know who I am, Brieden.”“No,
I mean…at home. In your feririar. Who are you there?”“I
told you, I will tell you as soon—”“Tell
me now.”Sehrys
looked straight ahead. “If I tell you now, you might let go.”Brieden
opened his mouth to protest, but his words were lost in the sudden impact, the
vacuum suction, the writhing tunnels that screamed at them, sang to them,
terrifying and so intriguing. They
couldn’t see one another. All they could do was feel. Feel their hands clasped
tight, tight enough to see them safe through this void, no matter how badly Brieden
wanted to sleep.Sehrys knew how much Brieden wanted to give in, to surrender
to the pull of the countless worlds that reached out for him, to the colors
swirling a sinuous dance around the wormholes that pressed in on every side.Sehrys
squeezed Brieden’s hand more tightly. He couldn’t lose him. Not like this.Brieden
squeezed back.And then
they were struck by a wall of sunlight.

Since his childhood, Brieden Lethiscir has admired The Sidhe, the
beautiful and magical beings native to the Faerie world outside his homeland of
Villalu. Though he grew up in a culture accepting of Sidhe enslavement by
Villalu’s elite, Brieden finds that he can no longer tolerate the practice
when he becomes a steward to Prince Dronyen, who is viciously abusive of
his sidhe slave Sehrys. Captivated by the handsome and mysterious sidhe slave,
Brieden vows to free and return Sehrys to his homeland. As they escape the capital and navigate a treacherous path to the
border, Breiden and Sehrys grow close. Breiden soon learns both the true power
of The Sidhe, and that the world that he thought he knew is not what it once
seemed. If they survive to reach the border, he will have to make a choice: the
love of his life, or the fate of his world. The Sidhe was first conceived as a beloved work of fan community
fiction read more than one million times online. Now fully developed as an
original novel, The Sidhe is Book One

So, I fall in love too easily and have lost count of how many crushes I've had in the past years. How do I stop falling so easily?
Okay, everyone name their weirdest crushes. Annnnd GO.
I had such a thing for Robin Hood, but like. The Disney version. The animated one.
I share this with you because crushes are super normal and good and important and fun! Even the weird ones. It’s a safe way of expressing feelings and desire and gives us an idea of what we may be looking for in an actual partner. (In my case: Furries? No, probably that he was clever and generous and aces with a bow and arrow. All qualities I like in men.)
Crushes are a great way to practice intimacy.
However, if all you ever do is crush from afar, it’s likely that you’re using them as a substitute for intimacy. At some point you do need to stop playing pretend, which means you either make a move or move on.
Make a move: Number one requirement for this is, you know, they should be an actual person that you actually know. I find this helps quite a bit. And now you need to decide if you have real feelings or are just infatuated with them. How can you tell? Well, if you know the person, recognize their flaws and still want to be around them anyway, you probably like them as a person and not as an idea. Or just as someone you’d like to bang. (Which is totally fine, btw. Just know what you’re getting into is all I’m saying here.) If you like like them and have genuine lasting feelings and can see some sort of future (and they are not a cartoon) then go for it! Ask them out. Take the chance. Go forth.
Move on: If it’s a fleeting crush, an infatuation, a fantasy and it’s getting in the way try to forget about it. Focus on yourself, your friends and loved ones, do that thing you’ve been meaning to try. Consider if your crushes have something in common. Do they all have certain traits you’re attracted to? Maybe it’s something you feel is lacking in yourself, and can gain without being in a relationship at all. Maybe there are even some unhealthy patterns at play that you can stop cold before dating. Relax, take a breath, let it go. Apply ice cream and romcoms as needed.
I leave you with this:

Actual fox Robin Hood.

Friday Wren comes prepared, but it’s still not enough: his whole
body alerts him when the boy swings through the classroom door. Inside—where he
usually keeps his gifts held tight—he wants to unfurl, wants to know how the
boy would look with all of Wren’s focus on his pleasure. This urge strains against
his insides, seeking the soaring rush that comes from making someone submit to
what he can give. The boy sits opposite him in
the class, but Wren can tell he’s hardly paying attention. Instead his eyes are
seeking, scanning the crowd until they meet with Wren’s.Wren sucks in a breath,
stills his bouncing leg. A seeking feeling pierces him. The boy must know; there’s
no way they could connect so easily otherwise. Wren returns the look with
cautious intent, gives the energy a tiny boost and can tell the moment the boy
absorbs it; Wren senses the reciprocal heat of longing. He smiles smugly. It’s
been a long time since he’s played this game, a long time since he’s found
someone who understands the rules and wants to play.* * *
Wren is one of “the gifted”—a college sophomore with the power to compel others’ feelings and desires. He uses his power as a game of sexual consent until Cameron, a naïve freshman, enters his life. As Cameron begins to understand his sexuality and gain confidence under Wren’s tutelage, Wren grows to recognize new and unexpected things about himself. Can their game become a relationship as the power shifts from teacher to student?
