Coming in December: Broken Records by Lilah Suzanne
![]()
Coming December 17th from Lilah Suzanne, the first book in her Spotlight series, Broken Records:
Los Angeles-based stylist Nico Takahashi loves his job—or at least, he used to. Feeling fed up and exhausted from the cutthroat, gossip-fueled business of Hollywood, Nico daydreams about packing it all in and leaving for good. So when Grady Dawson—sexy country music star and rumored playboy—asks Nico to style him, Nico is reluctant. But after styling a career-changing photo-shoot, Nico follows Grady to Nashville where he finds it increasingly difficult to resist Grady’s charms. Can Nico make peace with show business and all its trappings, or will Grady’s public persona get in the way of their private attraction to each other?

It seems, quite often, that LGBTQ books are solely focused on the characters’ sexuality. Which, if you ask a person who identifies as LGBTQ, gets old. And it’s a trap that many diversity books fall in. But where’s the epic sci-fi adventure with a lesbian space captain and her transgender pilot? The creepy thriller with the asexual detective? The boy-meets-boy, love-at-first-sight romance? Where? Well, it’s being published by indie publishers, of course. Meet Interlude Press, whose mission is to publish quality LGBTQ novels, where being gay isn’t necessarily the main source of conflict. Their first anniversary is this week and, one year out, they’re already raking in the awards. Of the eight books they published in 2014, three of them were Foreword INDIEFAB Book Award finalists and one went on to win silver. Clearly they’re doing something very right.

"I’m
going to tell you, you know,“ Sehrys promised, meeting his eyes for as
long as he dared. “I’m going to tell you everything, just as soon as we
cross. But you need to stay awake, Brieden.”“I’m
awake,” Brieden said steadily. He was now grasping Sehrys’s hand just as
hard as Sehrys was clutching his.“Who
are you, Sehrys?““You
know who I am, Brieden.”“No,
I mean…at home. In your feririar. Who are you there?”“I
told you, I will tell you as soon—”“Tell
me now.”Sehrys
looked straight ahead. “If I tell you now, you might let go.”Brieden
opened his mouth to protest, but his words were lost in the sudden impact, the
vacuum suction, the writhing tunnels that screamed at them, sang to them,
terrifying and so intriguing. They
couldn’t see one another. All they could do was feel. Feel their hands clasped
tight, tight enough to see them safe through this void, no matter how badly Brieden
wanted to sleep.Sehrys knew how much Brieden wanted to give in, to surrender
to the pull of the countless worlds that reached out for him, to the colors
swirling a sinuous dance around the wormholes that pressed in on every side.Sehrys
squeezed Brieden’s hand more tightly. He couldn’t lose him. Not like this.Brieden
squeezed back.And then
they were struck by a wall of sunlight.* * *
Since his childhood, Brieden Lethiscir has admired The Sidhe, the
beautiful and magical beings native to the Faerie world outside his homeland of
Villalu. Though he grew up in a culture accepting of Sidhe enslavement by
Villalu’s elite, Brieden finds that he can no longer tolerate the practice
when he becomes a steward to Prince Dronyen, who is viciously abusive of
his sidhe slave Sehrys. Captivated by the handsome and mysterious sidhe slave,
Brieden vows to free and return Sehrys to his homeland. As they escape the capital and navigate a treacherous path to the
border, Breiden and Sehrys grow close. Breiden soon learns both the true power
of The Sidhe, and that the world that he thought he knew is not what it once
seemed. If they survive to reach the border, he will have to make a choice: the
love of his life, or the fate of his world. The Sidhe was first conceived as a beloved work of fan community
fiction read more than one million times online. Now fully developed as an
original novel, The Sidhe is Book One
of The Heart of All Worlds series.

We’d like to introduce you to Trip Morgan, a pickpocket who finds value in things others do not want. In Courtney Lux’s debut novel, Small Wonders, Trip meets and becomes involved with Nate Mackey, a down-and-out former Wall Street professional who looks eerily like a child in a photograph Trip found years before.
The picture is part of a collection of stolen trinkets he’s collected since he arrived in New York. He keeps it all close and works out a life he could have if he could ever let someone keep him long enough for him to build up a treasure trove of small wonders all his own. In confronting their own demons and finding value in each other, Trip and Nate may find that their reluctant relationship is a wonder of its own.* * *
