“I highly recommend this story as a realistic journey of gay men who aren’t sure what they want in life and are forced to accept what comes their way. This is an excellent debut, and I will be following Courtney Lux’s writing career.”

Now Available! Lodestones by Naomi MacKenzie

interludepress:

A university party. They have to figure out a way to go, come hell or high water. If she has to sell her soul or beg for help and information from her older brother, she will. This is exactly what she was looking for. It’s the only thing that can possibly save what was turning out to be a sad, wasted long weekend.

On the eve of a new school year, several groups of college students cross paths as they seek out a secret end-of-summer lake party—including Robin and Charlie, two inseparable friends who discover of the course of the twenty-four hours that their relationship is something much deeper than simple friendship.

Look what’s in stock at Vroman’s!

Vroman’s is a renowned independent bookstore in Pasadena, CA that’s also known for its high-caliber book signings. Placing a book in this store is a great opportunity for both Erin and IP. If her book sells at Vroman’s, it could lead to additional IP books on the shelves of this influential bookstore.

We’re working hard to get IP books into brick-and-mortar stores so that we can continue to build this young company into the publishing house we want it to become: one that represents both quality and diversity. But we need your help to get there. Success begets growth towards our goals, so placing IP books on shelves is an important step in helping us reach our publication benchmarks.

And we’re making progress—our books have been stocked in stores from Books, Inc. in San Francisco’s Castro District to the historic Giovanni’s Room in Philadelphia. To keep those steps moving in the right direction, we need to make sure that these books find homes. So if you spot an IP book on a shelf in your local store, that purchase can help open doors to ensure that our books are stocked on their shelves regularly.

A Lasting Dedication

interludepress:

image

Three weeks ago, we lost one of the founding partners of this company. But Lex Huffman was much more than a business partner, or an IT expert, or a passionate practitioner of typography. Lex was a kind soul who set the tone for this company, for what we are trying to be.

Lex had many talents, but he loved publishing books. He wanted to read the books he couldn’t find growing up: stories where the fact that a character was gay, or lesbian, or transgender, or bisexual, or any number of identities was simply a part of their fiber, and that these characters could have the same complex narratives and happy endings as anyone else.

A few weeks before his death, Lex sent us a note, along with a picture of him holding a shamrock. It described his ritual for new books about to be published. He explained how he always received the very first copy—the printer’s proof—of every one of our books. And after he examined each one, he would walk around the farm where he lived to find a four-leaf clover to place between its pages before setting the volume on his bookshelf.

Lex explained that while he wasn’t much for superstition, he was a big fan of ritual.

And, in Lex’s memory, it’s a ritual that we will continue in perpetuity.

Starting with next week’s release of Lodestones, we will be including a black-and-white graphic of a four-leaf clover on the dedication page of each of our books.

The idea is courtesy of Charlotte Ashe, author of The Heart of All Worlds series, and the graphic was designed by C.B. Messer, who many of you know as pencilpushingenthusiast—a talented artist who designs our books and was a neighbor and close friend to Lex.

We also want to thank all of you for the outpouring of kind thoughts, offers of assistance, and remembrances these past few weeks. Lex would have been humbled by the volume of messages we received telling us how, in ways large and small, he had somehow left a mark on their lives. We are touched, and we are deeply grateful.

Now available: Definitely, Maybe, Yours by Lissa Reed

The tea doesn’t happen. Neither does the spaghetti dinner. They
don’t even bother to pick up bread. They are far too distracted by the radical
act of actually getting to know each other.

They talk, only talk, on the walk to Craig’s place, talking and
talking in an endless river of questions and answers but never touching, not
holding hands, though Alex knows Craig has to feel the same electricity snap
between them that he does. Every revealed fact makes it crackle louder until
it’s almost as if the energy could consume them both.

By the time they get through the door of the apartment, Craig is all
that Alex wants, needs, knows or can think about. The door has barely clicked
shut behind them before Alex has dumped his bag on the floor and has Craig up
against the wall with his hands on either side of Craig’s face to tilt it just
right.

He’s watching, so he sees Craig’s eyes widen for a split second
before he moves in and Craig’s sharp inhaled breath catches his own. He
breathes it all in when their lips meet.

Baker Craig Oliver leads a life that is happily routine, and has a weakness for damaged people. Habitual playboy Alex Scheff is about to discover he has a weakness for Englishmen who carry cookies in their pockets. Can a seemingly incompatible pair find the recipe for love in a relationship they claim is casual?
