You’d think I would have been prepared for how adorable and touching this short story turned out to be, given the author, but I’m just constantly surprised by the joy I get from reading @lilahsuzanne‘s work. All the delightful twists and turns keep “After the Sunset” fresh while it plays within a trope. There’s a wonderful sense of humor throughout too. Since it’s … 00.30 here, TODAY IS THE DAY
And oh boy should you be glad that on this fine 6th of July, you get to buy this adorable short story (short in length, mighty in strength!)
It’s everything you want in a Summer read–fluffy feelings, humor, goofy and cute vs. tall dark and handsome, sexy too– without ever giving the vibe of a traditional, easily forgettable Summer read (you know what I mean, right? Those books you read on the beach to feel like you’ve done something besides absorbing vitamin D). The emotions run deep in this book, reaching inside of your chest and making the heartstrings vibrate like guitar strings.
That @lilahsuzanne wrote it is not a surprise–more of a confirmation that she is among the few authors who will give the LGBTQ+ community the romcoms we have been waiting for ❤

7 Heartwarming Queer Reads to Celebrate Pride Month With
GRRRLS ON THE SIDE by Carrie Pack
Why you need it: Grrrls on the Side is a fast paced and engaging historical that takes a long, honest look at growing up overweight, lonely, and coming to terms with one’s sexual identity through the lens of its main character, Tabitha. As she deals with each of these - and it’s not an easy read at times - the book simultaneously delves into the 90s punk scene and delicately exposes the racial issues dividing it. Equal parts coming of age narrative and homage to the not-so-distant past, this story is chock full of zine pages juxtaposed with actual prose. Seeing Tabitha’s thoughts and feelings exposed so thoroughly in zine form helps give meaning to her actions and makes the book feel relevant to its history. Grrrls on the Side will have you cheering for the issues it brings to light and the sensitive way it handles them.
