“I LOVED this book. This is one of those stories that I can’t wait to tell you I’ve given a 5-star, top recommendation rating to because it just needs to be said right up front. Sid and Eddie’s story is beautiful-emotional, heartwarming, sad, sweet and was just a joy to read.”

Brush Strokes by E.S. Karlquist

Todd Navarro is halfway through college, trying to juggle his art studies with work, and avoid the feud going on between the gallery he works at and the one next door. When his best friend Mela invites him to a frat party, he meets Daniel Berger, who might just be his future. Until he finds out that Daniel has a lot more to do with the future of the gallery than Todd would have ever guessed.

About the Author

E.S. started writing stories as soon as she learned how to string letters together to create words and sentences. One of her first creations was around seven pages, eighty words, and about a tortoise living in a microwave. Since then, her stories have become a little longer, and perhaps slightly more complex. E.S. works for the Swedish government and has a master’s degree in human resources.

On the Blended Notes Cover

Or: That one time I actually had an idea.

On the cover of Blended Notes, in addition to our handsome protags lookin’ extra snazzy for some reason, there is a car. Not just any car, oh no.

You see, that ridiculously high spoiler there belongs to the 1970 Plymouth Superbird. A car that NASCAR deemed to be both too clunky and too powerful, and average car-driving people felt was too weird. (Too weird for the 70s is a solid commitment to weirdness.) Thus the Superbird was only in production for one year, with about 2,000 models produced, many of them sitting unsold and unwanted on dealer lots. :( Restored Superbirds are something of a cult collector’s item now, and Grady Dawson, bless his big beautiful impulsive heart, decides that the thick of a professional and personal crisis is the perfect time to restore one of them. Grady’s car looks like this, only worse:

In discussions about the cover, IP’s amazing and talented art director wanted to incorporate the Superbird (because symbolism!) and was having trouble fitting it in with the guys. “Why not just include the back end with that absurd spoiler?” I suggested. Y’all, I pretty much never have suggestions. It’s a small moment, but I need it, okay? All credit otherwise goes to CB and my wonderful and talented cover artist Victoria. And so…

Now just what does this weirdo car have to do with Grady or country music or romance or transplanted L.A. stylists still finding their footing in Nashville and in love? Guess you’ll have to pick up the book and find out.

Coming in July:”Blended Notes,” Book Three in Lilah Suzanne’s Spotlight Series

interludepress:

Blended Notes by Lilah Suzanne

Grady Dawson’s future looks bright. He’s at the top of his country music career, has a close-knit group of friends who have become his Nashville family, and has found solid ground in his personal life as he plans his intimate, private wedding with Nico, his stylist turned lover turned love of his life. It seems Grady has finally left his difficult childhood and tumultuous youth behind. That is, until his past shows up on his doorstep, news of his upcoming nuptials is leaked to the media, and his record company starts issuing demands that challenge his integrity as an artist and as a person. The foundation Grady built his new life on begins to crumble and fast. Can he have his future if he’s haunted by his past? Can he continue making music if it means comprising his convictions? Must he make the ultimate choice between a private life with Nico and the public demands of his career?

My Goodreads review of Broken Records by Lilah Suzanne

lilyvandersteen:

Broken Records by @lilahsuzanne

Oh wow, this book is so SENSUAL. The descriptions jump off
the page in a way that make the reader smell and taste and hear and feel
everything that happens just as vividly as the characters themselves.
You’re really there with them, and it feels glorious.

Grady is
such a loveable character, and sounds drop-dead gorgeous, so you can’t
fault Nico for wondering sometimes why on earth such a superstar wants
to be with him. But he does, and they’re good together, and good for
each other. Nico gives Grady purpose and focus, and Grady makes Nico
live instead of rush.

I loved this story - heading to Book Two next :-)

My Review of Burning Tracks by Lilah Suzanne

lilyvandersteen:

Burning Tracks by @lilahsuzanne

Oh wow, I raced through this book rather like Gwen lives - at
double speed and diving in headfirst. This was quite the rollercoaster
ride, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about how Gwen and Flora met and
fell in love, about how Gwen and Grady try out Las Vegas at its most
thrilling and about Gwen finds her true anchor once she stops to think.

Will
there be a third book in this series? I’d really like to see Clementine
find her match too instead of always being the third wheel
everywhere…

Thank you so much, this is wonderful! I’m so glad you enjoyed Broken Records too! Yes, there is a third novel, and as a matter of fact the cover/blurb/release date reveal is coming up soon. I can say that it focuses on Grady and Nico again, but there is more Clementine and she does start to find her own way. Which will hopefully lead to something just for her…

I don’t think I’m ready to say goodbye to this series just yet.

"I am intrigued by the conversation about whether the “I love you” scene is essential to a romance..."

“I am intrigued by the conversation about whether the “I love you” scene is essential to a romance novel. For me that scene is essential to some stories, stories where admissions of love are hard, stories where people are unsure of that love. It’s enjoyable in all stories, because it requires vulnerability, it’s hard to do, it means something. There’s a stillness and a fragility to an “I love you”. But in fiction where every scene must be essential, is that scene always needed?”

- Pene Henson, author of Storm Season and into the Blue, on the necessity of the “I love you” moment in romantic fiction (via interludepress)
