by Michelle Osgood

interludepress:

If you call one wolf, you invite the pack.

Months after saving Jamie and Deanna from crywolf, Kiara and her brother Cole have moved into the city. While clubbing one night, Kiara is stunned to see her ex, Taryn, onstage. But before she can react, Jamie notices a distinctive tattoo in the crowd: an axe rumored to be the mark of the Huntsmen, a group of werewolf-tracking humans. The girls need to leave immediately—and since Taryn is also a werewolf, they need to take her with them.

The Huntsmen are more than a myth, and they’re scouring the city for lone wolves just like Taryn. Until the General North American Assembly of Werewolves lends a plan of action, Kiara’s small pack is on lockdown in a friend’s apartment, where she and Taryn must face the differences that drove them apart. Furthermore, the longer the group waits, the more it seems the Huntsmen haven’t been acting entirely on their own.

@scout451 says a million insightful things about Broken Records here, so much so that you can just picture me saying “same” after ever sentence and wishing I said it myself, but to summarize my thoughts and feelings in a far less sophisticated fashion:

1) Broken Records is a delightful book with clever things to say about fame, celebrity, and the way that narratives are framed.

2) The characters draw you in and actively compete to be your favorite. I cooed over them and then threw my hands up at them mere seconds later, all the while never wanting to put the book down because I had to know what they were going to do next.

3) It has a cute love story to boot. What’s better than a character you like? TWO characters you like falling in love, with the meddling and support of even more characters you like.

4) Broken Records will probably make a good present for someone you love, including/especially if that someone is yourself. (On Interlude Press here.)

5) We’re so lucky the series is just beginning. Even a full-length novel isn’t enough to keep me from wanting more.

I decided to revisit my five favorite things about Broken Records in honor of the sequel, Burning Tracks, coming out later this week. How amazing is it that @lilahsuzanne takes a Chris Colfer-esque approach to churring out great books at breakneck speed? I love this series, and I’m so excited that the next book is almost out. More on that soon…

I literally had the same thought today about Lilah’s writing pace matching Colfer’s! We are thinking alike again, @flickerthenflare :)

My review of Burning Tracks is coming soon as well - but you guys, it is so much a worthy sequel to Broken Records!

Aww you guys! Thank you so much. I can’t wait to hear what you thought about Burning Tracks *nervous* Also

I’m comin’ for you Colfer.

Tumblr decided to show me notes from 244 days ago, including this one, and I thought it was just a glitch but maybe it really wants me to visit the Spotlight series again before @lilahsuzanne adds yet another book! Challenge accepted, tumblr.

Well this is timely @flickerthenflare, as I’m working on edits for Blended Notes right now at this very moment.

I’m so excited for you all to read this one! I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. Or, will turn out, once it’s all polished up (not with a magic rainbow wand, sadly.) Coming at ya this summer!

Revolution, grrrl style.

The year is 1994, and alternative is in. But not for alternative girl Tabitha Denton; she hates her life. She is uninterested in boys, lonely, and sidelined by former friends at her suburban high school. When she picks up a zine at a punk concert, she finds an escape—an advertisement for a Riot Grrrl meetup.

At the meeting, Tabitha finds girls who are more like her and a place to belong. But just as Tabitha is settling in with her new friends and beginning to think she understands herself, eighteen-year-old Jackie Hardwick walks into a meeting and changes her world forever. The out-and-proud Jackie is unlike anyone Tabitha has ever known. As her feelings for Jackie grow, Tabitha begins to learn more about herself and the racial injustices of the punk scene, but to be with Jackie, she must also come to grips with her own privilege and stand up for what’s right.

Coming this Fall: “Fortitude Smashed” by Taylor Brooke

interludepress:

Fortitude Smashed  by Taylor Brooke

After scientists stumbled
across an anomalous human hormone present during moments of emotional intimacy,
further research created the ability to harness the direction of living energy
and pinpoint when two lines will merge. Personalized chips are now implanted
beneath the thumbnails of every infant, where glowing numbers count down to the
moment they will meet their soul mate. Fate is now a calculation.

But loving someone isn’t.

When Shannon Wurther, the
youngest detective in Southern California, finds himself face-to-face with
Aiden Maar, the reckless art thief Shannon’s precinct has been chasing for
months, they are both stunned. Their Camellia Clocks have timed out, and the
men are left with a choice—love one another or defy fate.

About the author:

After fleshing out a multitude of fantastical creatures as a special effects makeup professional, Taylor turned her imagination back to her true love—books. When she’s not nestled in a blanket typing away on her laptop, she can be found haunting the local bookstore with a cup of tea, planning her next adventure, and fawning over baby animals. She is the author of the science fiction adventure trilogy, The Isolation Series (Limitless Publishing).

On Tuesday, authors C.B. Lee (Not
Your Sidekick
) and Pene
Henson (Into the Blue) received nominations in the Lambda Literary
Awards’ Young Adult and Romance categories, respectively.

“We are incredibly honored by the 14 Lambda
Literary and Foreword INDIES award nominations announced this week. Less than three years after publishing our first book, Interlude Press
has realized its editorial mission: to nurture extraordinary emerging authors
and publish novels that not only feature LGBTQ characters, but break the mold
and raise the bar in LGBTQ fiction.”

Foreword Reviews hosts its annual awards
program each year in recognition of the best books from small, university, and
indie publisher. Finalists represent the best books published in 2016, and
submitted to Foreword Reviews for award consideration, and were narrowed down
by Foreword’s editors from over 2,200 individual titles spread across 65
categories.

For complete lists of finalists, visit Foreword Reviews and Lambda Literary Review

“Choosing finalists for the INDIES is
always the highlight of our year, but the choice was more difficult this time
around due to the high quality of submissions,” said Victoria Sutherland,
publisher of Foreword Reviews. “Each new book award season proves again how independent
publishers are the real innovators in the industry.”

INDIES winners in each genre—along with
Editor’s Choice winners, and Foreword’s INDIE Publisher of the Year—will be
announced during the 2017 American Library Association Annual Conference in
Chicago on June 24, 2017.

Lambda Literary Award winners will be named
at a ceremony June 12th at the NYU Skirball
Center for the Performing Arts.

Sale extended one more day! 25% off not only on the nominated books but on all nominated authors’ books through today. (3.20)
