Medieval Monday | Ancient Word for November 2023

Welcome to Medieval Monday in the tavern!
I'm a busy tavern mistress, so my apologies for keeping this post short. November has arrived, bringing along the holidays and a new book release only two months out! You'd think I'd be used to prepping and preparing for another book, right? Hahaha! Nope. Of course, I'm also writing a new story, too.
Since I'm studying more ancient herbal remedies for my current work-in-progress, I thought this word suited well for this month. Enjoy the knowledge, my ...

Medieval Monday | Nordic Music to Feed this Author's Muse

Welcome to Medieval Monday in the tavern!
I've shared numerous times how listening to music serves as inspiration for my stories. In truth, I've confessed, "Music is my muse!" Currently, I'm working on the fourth book in The Wolves of Clan Sutherland series. Viking wolf shifters in the 13th century who travel between the Orkney Islands, Northern Scotland, and the Western Isles. They’re fierce, demanding, and definitely possess that “Alpha” personality. There are times when I require an intense...

Friday Feast | Celebrating National Apple Month

Welcome to Friday Feast in the tavern!
It’s a crisp, blustery day here in my town today. Fallen leaves are swirling in a dance along the road, paths, and parks. You can feel the shift in the veil as Halloween, or as I like to refer to the day as Samhain, approaches.
I’m sharing a recipe I haven’t baked in years. Found the paper tucked in one of my recipe boxes. I’d forgotten how good these cookies were, especially with molasses, ginger, and cinnamon. Though the recipe below doesn’t include n...

Medieval Monday | To Trade with a Viking

In this week’s Medieval Monday topic, I thought I’d continue with the theme of ancient coins, specifically, the Vikings.
If you look at history, most of the civilizations economy was based on a bartering system, including the Vikings. Two men or women might meet and say, "You have goats, I have some grain. I need a few goats and you need grain. So, why not swap?"
Eventually, the Vikings developed a coinage system, using precious metals instead of bartering for goods. Silver and gold were use...

Friday Feast | Pumpkin Scones for the Season

Welcome to a quiet Friday Feast in the tavern. It's been a long week, so I didn't have time to really prep anything. Though I'll be working this weekend, I am plan on making some scones. With my world and thoughts on everything "pumpkin," I'm thinking of these delicious treats. They're great with yogurt or a spoonful of whipped cream, served with tea or coffee. Or do what my knight does, he eats them all by themselves.
I'm keeping this short, my dear friends. Until next Friday, may you have a m...
