Racial Intolerance and the price it pays

With the non-indictments in both the Michael Brown and Eric Gardner cases comes frustration for many. There is no getting around that the justice system often feels lacking for many people of color in this country. On a literary level I tried to reflect on this issue. Being a young woman of mixed race in a society where skin color plays a vital role in your life exist in many societies around the world, not just in the United States. How does it feel to be dark skinned in a society where most of the society is as dark as you are, yet strive to be lighter with creams and staying out of the sun because getting "too dark" will limit your chance of getting an offer of a suitable marriage or the chance to get a good paying job. This is the reality of many women in places like India, Africa and others. Natural Elements tells the story of a young woman faced with this issue--yet reveals how she learns to cope and finds her identity through the love and support of her family and close friends. How does it feel to be different from everyone else?

There are a lot of new writers out there and some pretty good books. With the year coming to an end I can say I've read some really good ones. I've written reviews and given ratings to some of my favorites and not so favorites. And as a writer I've asked for honest reviews of my own work.
So with the year ending I would like to continue giving my point of view on the books I have read. I would also like to see some feedback regarding my multicultural novel Natural Elements-- The story of a young woman of mixed race struggling with racism in the complex world of Bombay, India. What is it like being different from everyone else? How do you fit in? These are the questions Geeta faces everyday. Being in a society where skin color affects every aspect of your life--who you marry, whose willing to be your friend, etc-- is a challenge. How do you rise above it?
Tell me what you think. Get a free e-book edition of Natural Elements during Amazon three day promotion starting 11/19/14.

First book signing

I just want to thank all of those who attended my first reading. I was a bit nervous at first, but looking out to the audience gave me strength. I look forward to the next reading and meeting new people. Thanks for the interesting questions. My next plan is to book a reading in Seattle and in the future, New York and Bombay.
