Editor Picks — Favourite Posts On CRY Last Week

Editor Picks — Favourite Posts On CRY Last WeekImage by Inquieta

It’s one of my favourite times of the week again. Yup, we get to cherry-pick the pieces we love the most. And as we become more selective with the submissions we accept on CRY, this actually becomes more difficult but also more fun.

Without wasting any more time, here are our top editor picks from last week:

Kern

I’m pretty sure I’ve chosen this writer before, but it doesn’t matter. I like what I like and love what I love, and I absolutely LOVE this piece. It’s called Waking Up to See Your Eyes And The Most Beautiful Smile—You Chose Me. Long title, yes, but Elena Cooper infused a spiritual essence with sound technical writing, and that kind of combination is lethal.

In this piece, Elena is reacting to seeing herself in the mirror and makes realizations and reflections that shift beautifully from heaven to earth. Favourite passage:

This is what we all know from Heaven — you want to write! — in order to inspire with your talents and experience, fantasy and creativity, a world hungry for knowledge, to be finally liberated by the mental chains of societies.

Safia

There’s a lot of pressure that comes with making a living as a writer. The joy of writing becomes harder to feel when you’re focused on views and earnings. So I really appreciated Wendi Gordon’s piece, A Letter to Myself which is a thoughtful reflection and reminder for writers to “Go back to writing from your heart, and your tribe will find you.”

In her own words:

Making a living as a writer is a worthy goal, but constantly pushing yourself to write faster and more often and obsessing about your stats isn’t helping you get there. Besides, is your worth as a writer determined solely by the money you make or the views you get?

Solitude

Solitude — My Paramour

Photo by Paola Chaaya on Unsplash

Solitude is my Paramour.

For Love was not a faithful partner..

When beauty shone for the world to see,

Love held hands in happy camaraderie.

It shook in mirth, glowing with pride,

Possessing my heart, hubris in every stride.

In spring and joy, Love in his zest,

Offered me his callous chest.

Then spring turned into winter

The path was arduous, forces working to tear them asunder.

Love should have then transformed into Hercules,

Slaying the Nemean lion, the society vultures,

Love instead became the poltroon, in its eternal cowardice.

I held my head high and walked away,

From the treacherous love that led me astray.

Away from Love’s interlude,

Into the welcoming arms of Solitude.

Wilderness stands as a barrier, broad shoulders, golden locks unshorn,

Conceals my Scarlet letter from the world’s scorn.

Yes! Solitude is my paramour,

For Love was not a faithful Partner!
