Words in a Jar Held Close to the Light
The Mountain
The Warrior Exposed
My desire for authenticity wages war with the lies and fears from my past.
Zemblanity
Wingless Bird
I still dream to fly, even with my cancer-clipped wings

O wingless bird of my arts!
Fallen from the nest,
Take the strength of my words,
Fly in my prose and verse.
O sapless pen of my thoughts!
Dried from the dread,
Nib into my veins and clots,
Inscribe on paper in blood.
O merciless pain of my body!
Let me slowly perish,
Dwell and cherish the vault,
I render you to flourish.
O needless cry of my soul!
Bereft of your audiences,
Rebound, return, and lie
Buried with mute senses.
O pointless compass of my life!
With all magnetism lost,
Who provides you solace –
Mountain, valley or grass?

Moving to the Next Level
Lonely
One Day At A Time

Insecurities flood like a hurricane.
I’m good, but not enough
I’m strong, but not tough,
My beauty is rough,
Yet I send the softest touch.
My dependability comes in handy,
I’m everyone’s favorite clutch.
I turn to GOD for GPS,
I protect the child in me, like CPS,
I drive with caution, without DPS.
Instead of less, I think more…
More of myself,
More of my health,
More about killing, rich wealth.
Time is not money,
Time is for self,
One day my book will be on your shelf…

Call For Submissions—Just Say No
We’re all working really hard to be the best writers and creators possible. Some of us are writing daily, others are sneaking in an hour here and there when the kids are asleep or after a full day at the 9–5. In either case, we’re doing what we can.
And we want this so bad that we say yes to whatever opportunity comes our way. But what about saying no? Have you ever felt like you were doing too much and needed to say, “NO, I can’t do that?” Maybe you’ve said no to yourself. What did that look like?
For this writing prompt, we want you to discuss the power of saying no. Has it helped you? Hurt you? Were you ever frightened at the repercussions of saying no?
We’d prefer submissions that reflect on writing or creativity in some way, but this is CRY, so if you come up with something vulnerable and personal but has nothing to do with writing, we’ll definitely consider it.
Same rules still apply:You can submit to this or ANY of our past writing prompts. Just scroll through our previous newsletters. They’ll be marked “Call for Submissions.”If you’re already a writer for CRY, go ahead and submit. If you’re not a writer for CRY but would like to submit to this or any other prompt, let us know and we’ll add you ASAP. Include your profile handle in your message or comment.Be as creative as you want in your submissions. As long as you stick to the topic, we’ll consider it.Just because you submit doesn’t mean we’ll post. If you haven’t heard back from us in three days, consider that a pass. Please reach out if you have any questions at all. If you are new to Medium, here’s how you submit a draft to a publication.
