Dear Santa,

I thought I’d get in early with my requests seeing as I know how busy you are at this time of year.

I did try sending you a letter back in January but one of your Elves sent me a slightly “short” response outlining that I quit bugging you till December basically. Don’t worry, I have contacted the “Santa Listens” Customer Service hotline on 1300 LEAVE ME ALONE to complain but suspiciously ended up feeling like that number was solely made for me. I know – ridiculous right? That’s what I thought. Anyhow, enough of that because we both know how much I love to ramble so here goes. My extremely timid (may I just point out because I have been told on occasion that my demands are never ending and slightly ridiculously unachievable) list of wants!

1. World Peace. I get it; everyone wants it so why are you dragging your heels about it already? It’s so clichéd; it is now a joke in movies that is frankly, beginning to get a little tiresome. I’m not sure what all the fuss is about with living in harmony with one another seeing as we only have centuries of historical testament to the turmoil and wake of devastation hate leaves in its path as it hurricanes through everyone’s life. Oh hang on, the penny just dropped. We’re the ones who have to make a conscious decision to stop it from ruining our lives? Hmm yeah, well I see your point, okay scratch that, it’s a human gift, not a Santa one. Well then, what about my next one?

2. Celebrating our differences. C’mon, seriously?! How can this not already have been presented to someone, I mean even if the receiver didn’t like it – hello, rewrap it and pass it onto the next person on the gift list. The world is made up of so many wonderfully, awe inspiring cultures and nationalities; it’s basically a Petri dish for learning viruses, you know – the good kind. What? Wait, this is another human gift? Oh right, fine, people need to make a conscious decision to let people with other perspectives in and be respectful of ideas that don’t fit ours. Alright, I’ll give you that one too. This is getting embarrassing. Moving on …

3. The Environment is going to Shite. I don’t know if you’ve noticed Santa but your home is apparently melting. In fact, whether you believe in the whole ruckus climate change enthusiasts have thrown up or not, I think it’s safe to say that our beautiful planet isn’t what it used to be. Really, what is Mother Nature doing? She really does need to take a little more care of herself, let’s be honest, age is just a number and now the situation is getting dire. I’ve heard Polar Bears are the next item on the chopping block – I mean, what? Cute white fluffy bears? What is happening with the world because that is just wrong! Okay Santa, you really need to stop skirting on your responsibilities and snoozing on the job (as you can see from the above photo, I have proof). How can this be a people present? Right, I did get the memo outlining that we just all need to be a little less greedy on the planet’s resources, you know with the three cars for a family of two and the fifty potato chip packet reserves we have stocked in the pantry just in case I get hungry exactly 467.987 days from now. Fine – I’ll give this one to you too -_-

Just for the record though, I am not happy about this. There isn’t a single present on this list I can’t give myself which just sux. Now, a nice red Porsche – surely that is a Santa gift. I even chose red as an homage to you know who ;)

So I’m guessing it’s going to be a waste of time sending you out that long list I have been meticulously updating throughout the year outlining my nice versus naughty deeds?

Hmm, I’ll send it to you anyway, just in case. Can you please send me your updated address, for some reason the letters I keep sending your way get returned back to me unopened with the message “Santa does not live here anymore”. What’s that all about anyway?

My Light Bulb Moment …

… well, one of many because damn, does my small, teeny weeny brain have a lot? That was a rhetorical question by the way, the answer to which is hell yeah!

I have been frantically searching for the solution to a personal struggle for quite some time now, deep under rocks and inside nondescript nooks and crannies when it turned out I had the answer the whole time!

All I had to do was listen, to that little voice that is desperately trying to stay alive, be heard among the other gazillion thoughts and processes unjustly fighting for your attention. You should listen to it every once and a while, just so your tiny friend feels wanted and most importantly so he/she gets stronger because chances are – that voice has the answer to everything that really matters.

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone :)

Life’s Good …

… because it just is and I say so! Sometimes, that’s all it takes – a mind shift that tells you all’s good.

I am constantly surprised at what I notice around me when I tell myself this, splendid anomalies I normally just overlook or take for granted when I’m griping about everything that is going wrong.

We live on a beautiful planet people with a higher amount of really awesome people, sooner or later you realise the douchebags are few and far between, so don’t stress and most importantly – ENJOY! :)

Yaaaaaayyyyyy!!! It’s December!

We’re finally here, my favourite month of the year!

I just love December, it’s when summer starts, it’s when the season to be jolly and festive begins, it signals the end of a great year and the time to wind down while spending precious time with family alongside also being the month that marks the heralding of a fresh, new beginning on December the 31st!

And best of all – Christmas decorations!!! As a side bar, how do you like my tree everyone?

Basically, it’s P-A-R-T-Y time! Now all I have to do is survive the next two weeks. I can do that, right? Of course I can! Have a WONDERFUL Monday everyone :)

Dear Climate Change Non-Believers

Did one of you forget to send the weather directly above my quaint, little, poor town the memo that reminded Mother Nature that Summer’s just around the corner? Seriously -_-

Have a wonderfully superb weekend everyone :)

News as you see it?

As some of you may know, I am slightly crazy about the concept of Citizen Journalism.

As an at times, real life journo, the idea of masses reporting on world events gets me all excited. Why, you may ask? Well, even if you didn’t, I’m going to tell you anyway so thank you in advance for gratifying my gluttonous indulgence in hearing the sound of my own voice, or at least reading my own mismatched words.

Journalism was once a noble profession, I know I’ve mentioned this before, but just hear me out … please. We were the watchdogs of society; the crusaders for truth, the freedom fighters if you will, for supporting those bludgeoned by the cruel ways of those “top management” individuals – and then came business.

You know what I am referring to. The media moguls of the world, those who started abusing the pen is stronger than the sword metaphor, the power crazy, hungry individuals who supposedly, tirelessly fought for the “no one person should have all the power” ideal throughout their university paths in their hippie enthused, inspired protests when they lost it like so many of us do.

Dollar signs replaced all the dignified determination to make a change for the better when suddenly reporting on events became who is going to give ME more? Who’s going to scratch my back if I scratch theirs along with all the other clichéd excuses we give ourselves for doing what we do when our gut tells us it’s so very wrong.

Journalism just became another means to an end and before we knew it we were up there with the other apparent “scum of the earth” right next to used car salesmen (no offence meant by the way, unless you’ve been ripped to shreds by an unscrupulous one, then by all means go ahead and offend!).

Not a very encouraging pick me up for journalists fresh out of university who still, perhaps naively, just a teeny weeny bit, believed that maybe, journalism could get a much needed revamp and actually start representing the people again, returning to its embryonic conception once more.

Citizen Journalism is once such effort in my opinion, where people are beginning to take a stance, reporting on events as they see it rather than as perpetuators for the guilty do. People may snicker at its brazen “cheapness” as they call it, the easy pimping out of words by those who give it up far too easily but really, in this social media obsessed world, does anyone really care about what those who misguidedly believe they have the authority to report, think?

Um, no.

So what if the “cheap whore” as some term citizen journalists gets his/her words across without all the nice trappings the “professional prostitutes” do?

Let’s not kid ourselves, if the “cheap whores” Likes and Shares are anything to go off, professional writers may want to readjust their strategies. I think 200 times more Likes for a popular citizen journalism site such as FakingNews in comparison to a reputed Business Standard journalism report may be warning signs for a change guys – just saying.

We ARE better than this, Australia …

I had a GREAT awakening this morning, I always feel buoyed by examples of people power. Gives me that warm, fuzzy rumbling feeling in my insides that accompanies true hope for the future.

Australians are proud of their renowned charitable nature which is why I am constantly left scratching my head in my perplexed inability to comprehend where that “true blue” Aussie spirit has gone when it comes to refugees and most importantly, children in detention centres.

Children don’t care about boundaries, or race, or religion, or political gain. Children believe in true freedom, imagination, wishes becoming reality – everything all of us adults should sincerely trust in if we ever want to experience that elusive emancipation we are constantly sprinting after.

Which is why I cast my vote in at http://wbttaus.org/.

As an Aussie, you can do it too, as a citizen of the World you can do it to, as a human being – you can do it too.

My keyboard melted yesterday, hence the improved writing ;)

At first I thought it was (naturally) due to my hot fingers (now you can take that to mean literally “hot” or metaphorically “smokin'”) but it turns out the thermometer broke too so my fingers may not be as tantalising as my ego led me to believe. Damn ego -_-
