First: Sorry about all the double-posting lately! I’m having some trouble posting from mobile (which is how I try to update from work).
More importantly, things are getting hard at home, and the next month or two is really uncertain - there are a lot of regular, daily, unpredictable demands on my time that take me away from working on comics right now. As much as I adore everyone who reads Meat&Bone and appreciate you all, my family comes first. I’ll absolutely try to keep up with Tuesday & Friday updates, but if I miss one please understand that it’s because I absolutely could not make it.
Thanks friends <3

Meat and Bone Page 211. Be smart, don’t be like Anne.
Trying to be healthy, to even start to think of being healthy while struggling with the sort of mental health primordial soup that comes with an eating disorder is a mess. Thinking of adopting a tapeworm seems desirable (until you look up that article about the guy who found one up in his brain).
I probably don’t say this enough, but my ask box is always open. If you’re reading this comic and you ever feel you want to reach out, I am absolutely here for you.

Meat and Bone Page 210. Ugly things are sometimes the most beautiful to draw.
If you’re in Toronto, I’ll be at Zine Dream tomorrow selling my comics and prints, as we as the big anthology I made with my collective this spring.

This page really fought me on the colors, I’ll probably go back to it when I’m not working a 16 hour day.

Meat and Bone Page 205. Anne is…not so life goals.
I remember this phase that lasted a very long time for me, and took several years to get out of where I was obsessed with the qualities of everything I put into my body. Which foods increase metabolism, covering my food in hot sauce (which has formed a flavour addiction completely unrelated to weight loss, like damn, can I get some habanero with that??), what helps with digestion, etc., etc. I would measure not so much calories (but that too) as fake science where I could trick my body into being something other than what it was and is. Anne is not truly anorexic, not like Marshall. She’s EDNOS. Taking health food to an obsessive extreme is another kind of self harm with its own designation, Orthorexia Nervosa.
Now I’m so skeptical about food pseudo-science. Interested in it, sure (sometimes I think of a parody of the lyrics to Ani DiFranco’s song Fuel “And they say that alcoholics are always alcoholics even when they’re as dry as my lips for years” only swap alcoholic for anorexic and you get my point) not a fervent believer in anything, because most of that is spin.
