Watch Me 네네 | Korean FAQ

In this new video I explain several uses for the word 네 (or 예), as well as several lesser-known uses. I also explain how to do the same thing using 응 (or 어). All of these words mean “yes,” but they have several different uses beyond only meaning “yes.”

When Is TOO LATE to Start Learning Korean?

Forrest and I discussed something called the “Critical Period Hypothesis,” and what it means for language learning. This hypothesis says that there’s a period of time where the brain is capable of learning a new language to a near-native level. We talked about what it gets right, and where it’s incomplete. We also share what’s the ideal age to start learning Korean.

~별(로) “By” | Live Class Abridged

In my most recent Korean class on Sunday (LIVE on YouTube) I taught about the form 별(로), which is a suffix that’s added to the end of a noun to mean “by (noun).” This is different from the adverb 별로, which I also reviewed in the beginning of the stream. Use a noun with 별로 when it’s being used as an adverb, or 별 when it’s not (such as in compound nouns).

Can KOREANS Actually Read CHINESE Characters? | HANJA Interview (한자)

I asked Koreans to guess the meanings of several Hanja (Chinese character) and was surprised by what they guessed. Do you know any of these characters? Can you read any of the idioms? Let me know here, or in the comments of the video!

What should I ask Koreans next?

다는 것이 Intending | Live Class Abridged

This is the abridged version of my most recent live stream from Sunday about ~다는 것이, a grammar form that’s used to mean you were intending to do something, but instead did something else.

Currently I do two live stream classes in a row on Sundays, followed by one Sunday off.

Billy Go’s Korean Conversation Course | #20: Phone Call – 통화

This is it! The FINAL episode of my free course! This course includes 20 full, natural Korean conversations together with explanations of everything – grammar, vocabulary, and expressions. There’s also a book version of this course if you’re looking for 5 more conversations.

What course would you like to see next? I’m planning on making a new course sometime later (perhaps next year?) and am interested in what you’d like to learn.

Important Hanja: “Ocean” 양 (洋) (한자) | Korean FAQ

It’s time for a new Hanja episode! This time I explain how to use the character 洋 meaning “ocean.” I also talk about the concept of 형성자, which is how many Chinese characters were created by combining a radical (called 부수 in Korean) that has a meaning, with another radical that has a sound, in order to make a character with a different meaning.

Are there any specific Hanja you want to see me teach?

Billy Go’s Korean Conversation Course | #19: Hello – 안녕하세요

There’s only one more episode left in this course! This conversation is about two people who agree to speak casually (반말), and how that happens naturally.

This is my free (yes, really) video course which covers natural conversations with full explanations for everything, including vocabulary, grammar, and expressions. There are twenty episodes in this free course, and there’s also a (paid) book version available for those who want to support my channel. The book also comes with an extra five conversations (audio files included), but the contents of the first twenty conversations are exactly the same as this free course.

What free video course should I make next? Let me know in the comments here or on my YouTube channel.

(은/ㄴ) 나머지 Because | Live Class Abridged

(은/ㄴ) 나머지 is an advanced level grammar form that’s used to mean “because,” but it differs from other forms that also mean “because” in how it’s used and also its nuance. 나머지 is used to mean that something negative happens (usually) because of something that’s extreme.

Most of the live streams I do are around the intermediate level, but I do also often do advanced level classes on my channel. Let me know if there’s another topic you’d like to learn!
