Wisdom

I bow not so much to your wisdom but to the wisdom of bowing.

Dietary Laws

Religious guidelines for the preparation and consumption of foods are cool – especially when backed up by modern findings of dietary health. But there are alwayspeoplewho want to take it alltoo far. Consider a future world where the only food available is cabbage – but only if it is certified to have died a natural death.

Thankfully, no such restriction apply to writing. Youcan eata wide and varied diet when it comes to what inspires you to write. Here are a few suggestions:

Surroundings. Th...

Having no more need of words

On my first read through, I found that I had to chuckle to myself when thinking of all the millions of people that pour past my doorstep every year having left their homes to find themselves.
On my second read through, I realised that I needed a third read through.
On my third read through, I marvelled at how well you know my heart.
On my fourth read through, I nervously jiggled the power cable on my laptop and thought of what a terrible mess I’ve made of my life.
On my fifth read through, I...

Passover

The last of the ten plagues that God used, to persuade the Egyptians to release the Israelites, was the killing of the firstborn of each household. The Israelites daubed lamb’s blood on their doorssothat God andthe destroying angel would know to pass overthose homes.

Here are a few steps to take to ensure thatthepublisher’sREJECTED stampwill pass over your manuscript:

Prepare. Edit the heck out of your manuscript until you are sure that all the spelling mistakes, solecisms, syntactical inacc...

Hero

How to write good heroes:

Qualities. Give them heroic qualities – courage, strength, determination, selflessness, righteousness and love. Of course, they have to look good in lycra too – skin tight with no VPL or zippers in evidence. Goals. Give them something cool to achieve in your story – saving the world from certain doom, destroying injustice wherever it may be found, punching out the bad booboos and, of course – they always get the girl (or guy). Obstacles. It’s never easy being a hero...

Only Dreaming

aaa

Once upon a time, I, lake, dreamt I was sky, with clouds floating hither and thither, to all intents and purposes sky. I was conscious only of my happiness as sky, unaware that I was lake. Soon I awaked, and there I was, veritably myself again.

Now I do not know whether I was then lake dreaming I was sky, or whether I am now sky, dreaming I am lake.

Between lake and sky there is necessarily a distinction. The transition is called the transformation of material things.

Tolerance

I can’t stand it when someoneon a supposedly spiritual path can’t tolerate the ideas of someone on a different path!
If apersonis being spiritual, surelyit should make them more tolerant, not less!!

(yeah – I’m trying to do irony)

Monotheism

The belief that there is one supremeuncreated God who created everything.

Just imagine, for a moment, that you are God. Imagine that you create a society, on a nice little world somewhere not too close to, but not too far away from the sun. Imagine it’s a real sweet place that has lots of stuff going on. Maybe you start off with a few thousand people (plus a couple of real special ones) and that these produce other people until you end up with about seven and half billion of them, all doing a...

Your Story

Tell me of your dreams
That they may soar into flight
Tell me of your failures
That they may be banished
Tell me of your fears
That they may be conquered
Tell me of your loneliness
That I might know how to give you company
Tell me of how you will pick yourself up
That I might know where to place my hand
Tell me your story – ah, yes – tell me everything.
