Liebster Award
YAY! I have been presented with the Liebster Award by Mimosaat https://kruidroermenietje.wordpress.com. The award is German and the name actually means (something like) Dearest Award – so that’s nice!
Here are the questions I was given, along with my answers:
What was your first post on WordPress (please provide the link)? My first proper post was me trying to get people to smile (https://levishedated.wordpress.com/2013/11/20/smile/) If you were given a chance to meet the people following...
Pythagorean Theorem
The relationship between the sides in a right-angled triangle can be expressed as a formula. Big whoop-de-doo, right? However, what you might not know is that Pythagoras founded a religion based on this, and other insights into the relationship between mathematics and the gods. Check out this quote of his: “Number is theruler of forms and ideas, and the cause of gods and demons.”
But yeah, no – don’t rush out tryingto find your nearest church –the movementdidn’t last for verylong. They were c...

Blisters on my Blisters
On Friday the 22nd of July 2016,we completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, which is a 24 mile stroll around the Yorkshire countryside taking in the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres).
We (me and Tony – my brother-in-law) set off walking at 06.10hr and arrived back in the village at 16.20hr, which means we took about 10hrs and 10mins, but when you deduct the half hour lunch and the ten minutes in the pub it took nine and a half hours...

New Worms
I was thinking about the past. I was thinking about the bad things that happened there. I was brooding and mooding downwards. I was darkening and …
Then I thought of the nature of the mind and about a can of worms – as you do.
Babies pick up all sorts of things and put them in their mouth. Some ofthose thingsare dirty and nasty. And yet when you take those things from a baby, they tend to get upset and they cry. Give them something fascinating (and clean) instead and theymayfall so inlove wit...

Tragedy
“When you lose control and you got no soul, it’s tragedy.” (Bee Gees)
If only the Ancient Greeks had access to the internet, then they would have had no need to wallow in sorry dramasabout the sufferings of their woe-begotten protagonists.
Picture the scene in Athens, circa 450BCE:
(Aeschlyus enters the Cornerside Café where Euripides and Sophocles are sat at a table knocking back the ouzo.)
Aeschlyus: By my curly beard, Rippy,I’ve just spent a gloomy morning with my son writing this new pla...

Lobster Woman
Ah, Mabel – what have you done to yourself – your skin is shrieking. You have burnt yourselfin the oven of an English summer – two weeks of unaccustomed sun. Your alabaster’splastered withred, but still it tries to claw its wayback out.
Tiny scales of ripped and torn skin fall from the towel onto the bathroom floor. Later – compelled by who knows what madness, youwill tear whole sheets of skin from your shoulders and arms.
You are a lobster, woman – escaped from the sea and fallen into the pot...
Drama
Shh, come closer.
Seethat gun on the wall? You think it’s there for decoration? No. It has killed, and it will kill again before this hour is gone.
But let me start at the beginning.
You are not who you think you are. There – it is said. For all the nights I spent, chewing nails, pulling hair – for all that, it was easy to say.
Explaining? Not so simple.
Hmm –shall Itell you a little secret first?
Imagine this – you have to give the authorities 24 hours notice before having … relations with s...

Wu Wei
The essence of Wu Wei is this: maximum efficiency comes as a result of minimum interference.
So, here’sanother post with a Chinese sounding name.
I notice that when I write posts with titles like ‘Ju‘or ‘Taoism‘they don’t get asmany hitsas stuff like‘All-powerful God‘ or ‘The Ten Commandments‘, even though Itry to make them all as funny and insightful.
A bit of a puzzle – right?
My one and only readerin China –Andy Smart (an English author who’s currently meandering across Chinaand East Asia)...
