Cover Reveal for Torie James -- "The Ghost of Secret's Gate"

PictureThe Ghost of Secret's Gate
He wanted a home...
1861 . Estranged from his family for a shocking betrayal, Highlander Lachlan MacQueen is a man who lives by his rules and no other. Reckless and rootless, he roams the border towns between Scotland and England, a mercenary for hire with an unspoken determination to regain all he's lost. By any means necessary.
When he inadvertently saves the life of Queen Victoria, she rewards him with a royal boon, the deed to a small manse nestled in Crathie called Secret's Gate and a stipend to ensure his outlaw days are over. But past sins demand payment and when the price becomes too high, Lachlan's untimely death becomes another skeletal ghost in an unopened closet.
She wanted to heal...
2016. Verity McClellan's memories of Secret's Gate are hazy at best. Two months spent in Scotland 25 years ago echo with remnants of a mysterious, hasty departure home to America and fresh beginnings with her mother, Pamela and new stepfather, Archibald MacQueen.
Now, she returns to claim the legacy left to her by Archie; the very manor of her erstwhile childhood summer. But the free spirited, fun loving child that roamed the castle with innocent glee has been replaced by a heartbroken woman full of remorse and shattered by regret. And now, she's beginning to question her sanity when an alluringly familiar voice in her head opens the floodgates to a piece of her past long forgotten.
Can a lie that destroyed one life give another the truth it needs to be whole?

Balance and Creativity

Creativity is abundant and hard to come by at the same time. It is an elusive thing creativity. I find that I need balance in my life for it to flow properly. That has been why I have been in a creative funk lately, I have had to balance. Stress from all aspects have my life has thrown me off kilter and my creativity is faltering.

So how am I going to get my life back in order? I need to calm myself and my stress somehow. Meditation is the first step. I need to get back into a daily practice. Probably twice a day truthfully. Normally I would say yoga and my meditation practice go hand in hand, but my health is not allowing me to practice right now, adding to some of stress. Still, I am going to try to walk or something. Easy things that I can do with my health the way that it is.

I am already eating a healthy diet and I will continue to do so. I follow a Mediterranean style diet and I can only assume that I would be worse off without all my fruits, veggies and whole grains. Just doesn't seem to be enough at the moment, but at least I have one aspect of my life down.

Next I need to work on trying to bring some fun and relaxation back into my life. I am going to commit to reading one uninterrupted hour a day. I am going to get back to sketching and painting every day, even if just a little. I am going to watch something fun on tv once a day. Its the small things that I hope will bring balance back to me and with that creativity back into my life.

How do you add balance to your life? What helps you relax? Leave your answers in the comments.

Using Art to Get Out of a Creative Funk

For the past couple of weeks I have found myself in a bit of a creative funk, okay a rather big creative funk, especially when it comes to my writing. Part of the slum is due to slow book sales over the summer, that can be very disheartening let me tell you. I have also been dealing with some major health concerns as well, which is zapping my energy in all aspects of my life. Despite pain and a shorter attention span it seems, I am trying to get my creative juices flowing again. This past week I have been trying to use art and painting to get back into the swing of things, and I think that it is working. Here's to hoping that this week I get down to some serious writing!

The Writer's Brain Never Shuts Off!

I have often seen it said that authors are always working. I must admit that is probably true. An author's mind is always churning and trying to come up with ideas. We are working when we are reading to become better at our craft. We are working when we are out living our lives, gaining new experiences that sometimes filter into our characters' lives later on. I know that personally when I have down time and am doing nothing, I am actually thinking about my works in progress, and I always have several works going at once so this can really keep me busy. Take yesterday, I was getting an MRI and there is not much to do in those cramp and loud tubes but think of anything but being in a cramp and loud tube. So how did I pass my time? Thinking about writing of course! Shockingly enough I came up with some plot points for almost all of my current works in progress, and some damn good ideas if I do say so myself! Probably the last time I can remember a day where I didn't think about writing was my wedding day... no that's not true, some other people caused drama at our wedding and I thought I should add that to a story some day. lol Maybe the day after my wedding I completely shut down my writer brain. Maybe... Good thing my husband is so damn understanding.

Tuesday Teaser: Our Last Salvation

Last week I shared this awesome cover for my upcoming zombie story, Our Last Salvation. This week I thought that I would tease you with a little excerpt. Remember it is only .99 cents and available for preorder over on Amazon right now! Picture They were getting ready to head in as the sun began to set, when Nick paused. "This has been a lovely afternoon. How about we go shower and I take you to dinner?"
"That would be awesome." Kol beamed, not able to hide her delight.
Just as they packed up, they heard a loud noise from above and turned to the sky. A military helicopter came into sight, quickly followed by several more all in formation. The sound and sight sent a chill down Kol's spine for some reason. Something must have struck Nick as odd too as he moved closer to her in a somewhat protective stance.
"Is this typical here in New York? I have never seen so many helicopters flying in formation like that, at least not here in the city."
Nick shook his head, "Neither have I. It gives me the creeps."
"Me too. Let's go inside." Kol reached for the door when they heard different loud engines and this time watched fighter jets race by, headed south. "Okay, now this really is getting creepy. Maybe we should eat in and find out what is happening. Thanks to my father I grew up around the military, this has the making of something serious."
"I think you’re right." Nick said as practically pushed her back into the building. For some reason both of them automatically headed for the stairs, not wanting to take the elevator, which turned out to be a good thing since the electricity went out just as they reached the seventh floor. They hurried to the sixth floor and into Nick's apartment, not wanting to split up and not having to talk about that fact; instinct took over for both of them as panic began to set in.
