Mental Malware Removal Tool

Malware_Edward_Lewellen

Have you ever experienced a virus, or other “Malware”, on your laptop, PC, tablet, Smartphone, or other electronic device? A couple of years ago it happened to me. I was on a website that I trusted and I started a download. My antivirus software popped-up and asked me if I was sure I wanted to proceed with the download because it probably contained a virus. I thought, “Surely not from this website! So, sure! Go ahead and download that file!” A week later I received my computer back from the shop after they removed the virus that, indeed, the download did have. Thankfully, I was aware of a source to remove the malware that caused my computer to malfunction.

There are many similarities between malware that attacks and disables a laptop, PC, tablet, Smartphone, or other electronic device and the human brain. If you think of the physical brain as the hardware and the mind as the software, then you begin to discover the similarities. Just like the electronic devices, our brains have all the pieces and parts needed to function at a very high level. And, just like the electronic devices need software to make use of the physical item, our brains need our minds to make use of them. Neither situation will work one without the other.

How are the malware and viruses similar to what happens in the human mind/brain? Some viruses are called “Rootkit Virus”. Rootkits are software designed to hide the fact that an operating system has been compromised, sometimes they hide themselves by replacing vital executable files. Rootkits allow viruses and malware to “hide in plain sight” by disguising as necessary files that your antivirus software will overlook. To install a rootkit, an attacker must first gain access to the root account by obtaining the password or by cracking it. Rootkits are activated before booting your operating system and they provide an easy way for attackers to access and use your computer without you even noticing. Due to their nature, RootKits are very difficult to remove. When we are born, we have some pre-installed software that makes out hearts beat, lungs breathe, have the ability to learn, and so much more. This is our core “operating system”. For the most part, we never even know it’s there because it is automatic. We may receive a “Rootkit” virus that gets installed through genetics, drug or alcohol abuse, or in some other way and these result in the mind or body having a “program” run incorrectly. Another way a “rootkit” virus may get installed is through the environment and those within it. For instance, have you ever wondered why you feel certain ways or have certain thoughts and you just don’t know where those came from? It’s as if someone “programmed” you without your knowing it, isn’t it? This happens through parents and other relatives, teachers, friends, and anyone that influences you at a young age. Because certain parts of your brain that enable you to validate what you’re accepting into your mind don’t develop until you’re around nine-years-old, these “rootkits” are indiscernible…until they cause you problems later in life.CBSNews.com

When my PC became corrupted, there was immediately a barrage of activity. The moment I pushed the button to allow the file to download, screen after screen began opening up and cascading over one another. I couldn’t act fast enough to stop it. You may feel this way when you have a virus or malware planted into your thinking. Negative thoughts are like that. You begin having a negative thought and it quickly begins to spin in your mind. As it spins, you begin to feel the physical effects in your body and your mind. It feels like your head will explode as the thoughts spin and cascade taking on centrifugal force and Critical Mass! Some people experience panic attacks, faint, or hyperventilation. Some experience all of that and more!

You may believe that everything I described regarding the human mind and emotions are “just part of life” and feel that you must just accept them. However, like Malware Removal Tools for viruses and rootkits for your electronic devices, there is a “Malware Removal Tool” for the viruses of the human mind. This goes far beyond and is much quicker and faster than psychology, counseling, and therapy. In fact, it not only removes the “malware” that’s been installed, it replaces it with faster and more powerful updates to dramatically change your life! If you would like to discover what this amazing tool is, please contact me today.

Mitigation of Transference of Emotion to Oncology Staff

About a year ago, I was asked by a Dallas-based hospital system to give them an overview of how I might be of assistance to their staff, specifically in the Oncology Department, to mitigate the transference of emotion from patients to the staff. Below, you will find my ‘Whitepaper’ describing the help and assistance I believe can be made available.

Sad_Doctor_Edward_Lewellen

Being an Executive Coach, Master Life Coach, NLP Master Practitioner, and Master Hypnotist, I understand transference of emotion from a very personal level. I have worked with scores of clients that were medically diagnosed as having Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), both military and non-military. As of the time of writing this paper, I have a 100% recovery rate of helping those clients return to becoming fully functional in their lives in only about 6 hours of sessions. Because of this success, I was invited to speak as a Subject Matter Expert to a large Defense Contractor about my work. And, if you work with the Healthcare Industry, you fully realize that PTSD is very closely related to Compassion Fatigue, in fact, PTSD was originally termed “Battle Fatigue”. Based on the knowledge of this connection, here is how both can be successfully and quickly minimized or eliminated:

The primary brain functions that are involved in Compassion fatigue and the empathetic feelings are Mirror Neurons, which are sometimes called Empathy Neurons. There are three levels of Mirror/Empathy Neurons:

• Those in the Superior Temporal Sulcus which predict and associate with what is happening in the present, immediately, and associate the current with behaviors and actions.

• The Mirror Neurons in the Right Temporoparietal Junction predict and associate in the mid-term and reflect our internal beliefs.

• Finally, the Mirror Neurons in the Medial Prefrontal Cortex serve for the long-term and are associated with predicting other’s preferences and personalities

A second area of the brain that is involved in Compassion Fatigue is the Insular Cortex. As the name indicates, Insular means “Island” or “Isolated” and it is the part of the brain that allows us to fully understand and realize that we are separate and distinct in the world. “I am me and I’m not you” and that “I am with you, but I am not you”.

In PTSD and Compassion Fatigue, a person’s “wiring” of the brain gets “crossed”. Just like when electrical circuits of a car or house are carrying voltage when they shouldn’t be, it can lead to disastrous results. The Empathy Neurons get hyper-stimulated so that they are firing when they shouldn’t be firing and they fire at a very rapid, intense rate. In people with PTSD, there is a measurable absence of a naturally-occurring substance in the brain call GABA (Gamma Aminobutyric Acid). GABA inhibits the firing of the neurons so that they have a slower, more relaxed pace. Of course, in PTSD and Compassion Fatigue, the Empathy Neurons are firing so rapidly about the traumatic event they experienced it causes them to ruminate the experience. This further embeds the mind-loop and causes the feeling of centrifugal force taking over, some describe it as ‘spinning out-of-control’, and then Critical Mass hits and the mind loop and emotions become self-sustaining . To exacerbate the problem, now the Insular Cortex becomes affected. The line between the person that saw the traumatic event and the people that were actually in the traumatic event becomes blurred. It’s no longer “I’m me and you’re you”, it’s “I’m me, and I’m you, too”. It’s as if the person observing the event had the event happen to them. Another affect is Survivor’s Guilt. In the case of a military person, this means that they feel guilty for having survived when those around them perished. In Compassion Fatigue, this could be that the staff had saved previous patients so how could they have failed this patient and their family?

So, between problems with the Mirror Neurons and the Insular Cortex, a person becomes dysfunctional from life. I believe this, or something very similar, is what happens to people with Compassion Fatigue. So, how can healthcare staff with Compassion Fatigue be assisted to return to ‘normal’?

By using a combination of coaching and hypnosis (Coachnosis), there are several of ways of successfully and effectively approaching PTSD and Compassion Fatigue. I choose not to have my clients go into deep detail and relive the traumatic event(s) over and over, as some methodologies do. This method seems odd to me because it is what the people who have PTSD and Compassion Fatigue are already doing. Reliving the traumatic event over-and-over again is the problem! The therapies that duplicate reliving the trauma repeatedly are titled Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and Virtual Reality Therapy. In studies that have been conducted which include veterans with PTSD, the subjects reported that the therapies noted above made them regress, instead of moving forward. The subjects reported an increase in nightmares, flashbacks, social isolation, anger, along with suicidal and homicidal thoughts. (Reference)

My four-part process is easy, quick, and, so far, works 100% of the time:

It reduces the stress the person is experiencing to ‘normal’ levels
It restores the ability of the brain to produce GABA in order to slow down the speed at which the neurons are firing
It creates the capacity for the Insular Cortex to reorganize itself back to its correct state of functioning, and
It creates the capacity for people to have thoughts without feeling the emotions associated to the thoughts and the ability to feel emotions of a situation without creating a mental association.

I hope this information was helpful and I’d love to receive your thoughts and comments.

Did You Remember to Forget Your Stress?

You’be been there…the pressure, the stress, the mounting tension. It doesn’t matter what it is or the reason for it. It may exist for a few hours, a few days, a few weeks. And, then, suddenly it’s gone! So, you take a deep breath and automatically relax, right? I mean, the pressure and tension are gone, so the stress should be, too, right? Wrong! And, here’s what happens to cause the retention of the feeling of stress.

Much like the people in the military who are in a battle zone or the police when they’re on-duty, we become hyper-vigilant when we have exposed to stress for extended periods of time. A ‘normal’ person has an ongoing stress-level of about 60% of capacity. That includes the “bad” stress and the “good” stress call eustress. As “bad” stress grows and accumulates, the mind has to move it somewhere to maintain sanity. It takes mental stress and converts it into physical response. This is called…wait for it…Conversion! Here are a few examples:

A perpetual scanning of the environment to search for threats or the “What’s next?”
An increased state of anxiety that causes you to feel exhausted
Lose connection to family and friends due to always being “on the lookout”
Overreact to loud and unexpected noises or become easily agitated
Feeling like you need to be in a hurry, even when you don’t
Difficulty sleeping or staying asleep
Becoming physically sick more easily than in the past

Here’s what is going on; much like physical pain that was needed when a part of your body needed to be cared for and has now become healed, sometimes the mind/body connection forgets to stop feeling the pain. (I.E., Phantom Limb) It remembers the sensation as it was previously, not as it is now. And, just the same, when you have been under stress for an extended period of time, your mind has become so used to being hyper-vigilant that it continues beyond the need for it. Does that make sense?

So, what can you do to return to what is a ‘normal’ stress level for you? Sometimes it’s as simple as remembering to forget the need for the stress. It can be somewhat of an epiphany when you truly stop and consider, “Wait a minute! The reasons I used to be feeling so stressed have gone away and this means that I can stop being the way I was before when I was stressed in the past.” I’ve chosen these words carefully for the way they cause the neuropathways to respond to your thoughts and words. Your mind wants to know that it’s safe now and those things that were causing it stress are “in the past” and unable to affect it.

Thinker_Edward_Lewellen

A second exercise you can perform is the one I discuss in detail in my book The 90-Second Mind Manager. I describe, in detail, the only methodology known to help people survive “waterboarding”. This is different than “Wakeboarding”, at least for some. For me, it’s pretty much the same thing, but I digress. So, check out this simple and sustainable methodology for relieving the daily stresses and pressures by clicking here.

Lastly, and the one that everyone of my clients are blown away with when they experience it, is the ability to have the stresses and anxieties completely relieved through hypnosis. Amazingly, it only takes about five minutes to facilitate the experience. When my clients come back from their unconscious state to their conscious awareness, they experience these profound side effects:

The room seems more clear and bright
An overall sense of relaxation
Happiness for no reason
A lightness in their body as they walk, etc.

So, if you’re willing to put up with the side effects, then you might fully consider hypnosis as a solution to remembering to forget your stress!

Because you experience stress each and every day that can negatively impact your life, I hope that these tips will give you a sense of relief and release so that you will find more happiness and satisfaction in every aspect of your life!

It’s a Real Pain in Your Assets!

Back_Pain_Edward_Lewellen Costs_Edward_Lewellen

❋ Pain costs companies, including yours, $294 billion annually in lost workdays, medical expenses, and other benefit costs.

❋ Lost productive time from common pain conditions among active U.S. workers cost an estimated $61.2 billion annually, largely due to reduced performance while at work.

❋ 13% of the total workforce experienced a loss in productive time during a two-week period due to a common pain condition, including headache, back pain, arthritis, and musculo-skeletal pain. (Stats from American Chronic Pain Association)

What are some conclusions we can draw from these statistics about current treatments for pain?

Many of the pain medications are so performance-inhibiting that employees taking them cannot work, or cannot work at a high level of performance

Many pain medications are not effective (Have you ever experienced a doctor trying one pain medication after the other to see what “works”?)

Your company is being financially robbed by persistent pain through lost productivity, high insurance costs, low morale, etc.

Are there alternatives that actually work and can minimize the losses to your company? If you look back in the history of medicine and go back before pain medications were discovered, you’ll find there was a technique that was taught to all medical practitioners that was safe, effective, and quick: Hypnosis. To this day, dentists are the branch of medicine that continues to use it the most. Why was it abandoned? If you were given the option of giving your client/customer a pill and get them on their way so that you could engage the next client instead of spending an additional 15 minutes, what would you do? If you realized an additional revenue source that seemed to be what everyone else is doing, what would you do?

How can hypnosis affect pain management? First, neuroscience tells us that pain only exists in the mind. When you touch a hot stove with your hand, the pain isn’t actually felt in your hand. In an instant of time, a signal is sent to the brain, interpreted, given meaning, and returned to the point of origin. And, you quickly move your hand! The purpose of pain is to alert you that you need to pay attention to that part of your body. When you don’t pay attention, the sensation of pain increases in order to get your attention. (Just try to leave your hand on the hot stove!) This “paying attention” isn’t just an acknowledgement that you have the sensation. The sensation is asking you to really care for the part of your body with the sensation that is painful. This doesn’t mean saying things like, “D#*n that leg! I’m going to walk on it just to show it who’s boss!” This will actually cause the pain signal to strengthen, like attempting to keep your hand on the hot stove.

With chronic pain, here’s what happens; you may have gotten injured and the sensation that was painful was there to alert you to it needing your attention. Sometimes the brain “forgets” to shut off the pain signal after the need for it is gone. We continue to remember the sensation as it was, not how it is now that it is better. This hyper-stimulation is what causes the pathway to continue to be ”fired”. If you have endured chronic pain, studies show that it is probably because of hyper-stimulation of central neuronal pathways which has led to neuropathological remodeling, which means a “mind-loop” has been created for the sensation of pain to exist within.

Hypnosis does what medications cannot. It actually shuts down the “mind-loop” where the sensation of pain exists so that the stimulation mechanism shuts down. People have been successfully helped with the use of hypnosis for pain from surgeries, sports injuries, and even the pain and lesions caused by chemotherapy, all of which are very “physical”. If you would like more information on how hypnosis might return the money that’s been rushing out of your company’s bank account, please contact me.

Abuse and Bullying: The ‘Cichlids’ in Your Company

Cichlid_Edward_Lewellen

There are species of the Cichlid (pronounced Sick-lid) fish that are very aggressive and constantly threatening. I had the opportunity many years ago to witness their ferocity and aggressiveness. A co-worker, Russ, had an aquarium in his office with about 30 fish. One day he brought in three beautiful new fish and they were all cichlids. He dropped them into the tank and we watched these beautiful fish swim with grace and ease through the water with the other fish. The next morning, I went to Russ’ office to observe the fish before our morning meeting with the president of the company. To our surprise, two fish were floating upside down with bites taken out of them. This same scenario of carnage played out morning after morning until only the three cichlids were left. The next morning, one of the cichlids was dead and the next morning only the largest cichlid was there to be the lone survivor. Russ did research and found that cichlids behave in the following manner; they choose a victim and begin by one of them bumping against that fish, then another, then another, and then another, taking turns bumping into and weakening the fish with each bump. Eventually, the fish dies and they begin eating it. They will kill off all the other fish in the tank and then turn on each other with the strongest cichlid being the lone survivor.

Sometimes people take on characteristics and behaviors that mirror those of cichlids, would you agree? It may be a few individuals, a clique, a team, a department, etc. For whatever reason, they choose a person as a ‘target’ of their dislike, abuse, bigotry, racism, hatred, bullying, etc. Maybe one person has chosen to hold ill feelings for the person, so the rest of their group they belong to feels the need to ‘support’ them. First may come the nasty looks, then the negative remarks begin, then outright confrontation. Day-after-day, week-after-week, the stress builds and grows for the person being ‘attacked’. They become emotionally and then physically ill. They begin to dread the thought of going to work and they get anxious when they have to be in the same room with one, or more, of the ‘cichlids’. Even venturing into the hallway or going to the restroom my create a great sense of anxiety. The person feels beat-up, like the fish being constantly bumped in the aquarium.

Have you ever experienced something similar where you work, or have worked in the past? Please share your story and please include how you survived so that others can benefit from your experience!
