Doors Examined Presentation in Tinley Park

Good Morning All!
I know I've been away a long time but been busy with proposals and working on a book about a band. But I've got an important announcement to make about an upcoming library presentation and I hope you all can make it, and/or if you know anybody that lives in the area I hope you can forward this on!

“The Doors Examined” is a compilation of articles from the first four years as The Doors Examiner. Subjects of articles run the gamut from Doors history (and pre-history), to some of the people that surrounded The Doors and Jim Morrison, but it doesn’t stop there. “The Doors Examined” follows The Doors and its members into the 21st century with their projects (reviews of Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger’s solo projects), and their working with newer artists such as Skrillex, and Tech N9ne.

The 90 minute presentation covers the entire history of The Doors from early influences, UCLA days, and touches upon as many of the significant events that made up The Doors career as can be covered in the 90 minutes. It is a unique look at The Doors that doesn’t follow the usual outline or guidelines for a presentation. Following that is a question and answer period as well as an opportunity to purchase my books “The Doors Examined” and/or “The Last Stage” ($15 per book)

“The Doors Examined” presentation will be at the Tinley Park Library at 7851 Timber Drive Tinley Park, IL 60477, March 12th at 7pm. You can register for the event at: the Tinley Park Library events page (http://www.tplibrary.org/events/doors...). It is a free event. If you live in the area, I hope you will attend or if you have any friends, family or associates into The Doors, turn them on to my presentation.

If you can’t attend and still would like to purchase either “The Doors Examined” or “The Last Stage” they’re available at Amazon.

More Reviews Coming In!

Goooood Sunday Morning Jymsbooks!

Got some new reviews that came in, and they're looking pretty good! I'll excerpt them for you.

The first is from Sally Stevenson who interviewed Jim Morrison for Circus Magazine in 1970:
"The Doors Examined" is so close to excellent, it should be read by every Doors person on the planet, not just their fans, but people like me (Circus Magazine Interview 1970) who knew them professionally and/or personally. "The Doors Examined" delights me because it holds new insights and surprises. (Rap tracks.) I think poet Morrison would have enjoyed the rhythms of Rap.

"The Doors Examined" is stuffed with facts. That could make for a very dry read. Instead Cherry has written this encyclopedia with such great imagery that no photos are required. Morrison was a poet and loved words that painted pictures. I think he would have loved Cherry's book. I do.

The next comes from artist Jessie Buddell who has done portraits of Jim Morrison

"I tend to read books like a snail, between work and painting I make time to sit and read. Your book is making me really look forward to my reading times!

I love the way it's laid out. It's in articles, and like you said, you can read it all the way through or skip around.

I've been reading it straight through, but I love the way it skips from different times in the Doors history...it's really refreshing and not like the other books about them."

If you would like to take a look at Jessie's paintings you can check them out at: http://primalscenes.com/

You can read these reviews in full at Amazon http://tiny.cc/y2rkuw (this is already a long missive).

A couple of blogs have also mentioned "The Doors Examined"

The first is photographer O.Bisogno Scotti, who photographed the building the Morrison Hotel was in. http://blogbisogno.wordpress.com/2013...

The article about his photograph is in the book.

Indiana writer Julie Rosenbaum-Englehardt, http://www.juliejournals.com
she has also submitted the review to a newspaper she works for Evansville Living, so hopefully that will be in the paper there soon!

If all this too much good news I did pick up my first official troll who titled their review "the book is just a copy and paste of various articles."

Well this is pretty long, so I'll let you get back to your previously scheduled day!

Best!
Jim

New review, Library Presentation and stuff!

OK, got a really cool new review the other day from the Legendary Rock Interviews website, some excerpts from the review:
"...Cherry (longtime journalist and Doors expert) has compiled a collection of all of his best work writing about the band in this volume and it manages to flow like a normal “book” rather than a simple compilation....Despite it’s deceptively short page number (240), there is actually a TON of information..." and it was given 5 out of 5 stars. If you would like to read the full review it's at: http://www.legendaryrockinterviews.co...

"The Doors Examined" is available at Amazon http://tiny.cc/y2rkuw

I'm working (slowly) on the library presentation at the Oswego library August 13th, I'm scripting it as I get videos for it, so it is a bit time consuming but hope to have a lot more finished this weekend! More news as we get closer to the premiere of the video!

The Doors Examiner hit the #2 most read music articles on the Examiner site! It's dropped down a bit but it has actually been in the top 10 for about 3 weeks!

Please forward this to any friends, family members, co-workers, you might think might be interested in Jymsbooks!

Thank you for reading!

New Review of The Doors Examined by the Pop Culture Guy

Good Sunday Morning! (still feels like morning to me)

It's kind of a scary proposition when a new review comes in, did the reviewer like it? Did they hate it? You very rarely think of the in between reviews. This morning I got the link to a review of "The Doors Examined" by The Pop-Culture Guy (Don Sauer) and he has a very cool review of the book at his blog: http://popcultureguy-don.blogspot.com...

Some other "The Doors Examined" news, circle August 13th at 7PM on your calendar's, I will be presenting a show at the Oswego Library, IL, on "The Doors Examined" it will be a power point presentation with music, video's and pictures a brief history of The Doors from their pre-history until today. Stay tuned for more details as they emerge!

The Doors Examined Amazon Sales & New Rvw The Last Stage

Hey Everybody!
I hope you're all having a great weekend! Here's a quick update on "The Doors Examined" sales from Amazon (don't worry no boring statistics here!).

This past Friday "The Doors Examined" was in the top 25,000 of Amazon sales! I know that may sound higher than #1 or even in the thousands but to put it all in perspective, Amazon has about 2 million titles. Also, "The Doors Examined" dropped into the top 100 in sales on two of Amazon's book catergories. It was #94 in their Composer and Musicians Biographies, and #79 in Rich and Famous Biography category. http://tiny.cc/y2rkuw

There is a new review for "The Last Stage" on Amazon:
"A rock 'n' roll fever dream best read in a black-lit room with the Doors' spooky The End spinning endlessly on a vintage stereo. Jim Cherry captures the scratchy echoes of a distant era, when the Lizard King, Jim Morrison, lived and died. The Last Stage is the tale of fan's obsession with the music, his dreams, his fears - it reads like a twisted memoir, flashes of fine writing swirling like a psychedelic solo by Ray Manzarek. Read it and light your fire."

The review was written by Barry Wightman, who has the book "Pepperland" coming out May 6th on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Pepperland-Barr...

"The Last Stage" is available on Amazon and Kindle (only $3.03!) http://www.amazon.com/Last-Stage-Jim-...

Have a great weekend!

The Reviews are Rolling In!

Hello Jymsbooks!

It looks like "The Doors Examined" is off to a grand start in it's first official week or so!

Last week I was on the Rants, Raves, and Rock 'n' Roll Show talking about "The Doors Examined" you can listen to the interview here: http://www.rantsravesrockmagazine.com...

The reviews for "The Doors Examined" are starting to come in, and so far they're all positive! Here's an excerpt from one:
"The detail is superb, the writing style easy to read and the whole book sucks you into the text.
Jim Cherry is an expert on this band and it shows. Shows? It leaks from every page.
If you really want to know about The Doors -read this." Buzzreader

If you want to read more Amazon reviews at: http://tiny.cc/y2rkuw

The U.K. won't be left out of this either, here's an excerpt from author, Ron Clooney on "The Doors Examined": "Having read much about The Doors, and written about them too, I was stunned by the content of this book.
If you thought you knew everything there was to know about this band , you probably don't: Until you've read this."

If you want to read the full review at Amazon U.K.: http://tiny.cc/p1rkuw

If you live in the western suburbs of Chicago "The Doors Examined" is available at the Oswego Public Library and you can get it through inter-library loan or request your local library to get a copy or two!

News of the Future! The Oswego Library has asked me to put together a program for "The Doors Examined" so look for that in July or August (their first opening) and hopefully I can put together a show that I can take to other libraries etc...!

Please forward this email to any friends, family, co-workers, associates who you think would be interested in it!

Keep rocking!

Jim
